[EGX2013] Mario Kart 8 Demo Hands-on | Dunham Gaming

This forthcoming title is the new ‘Mario Kart’ entry for the Wii U, as it features the best of its previous offerings and some anti-gravity racing. It’s going to be a long wait as this title will be released by spring 2014, but Dunham Gaming played it at this year’s Eurogamer Expo, so here are their early verdicts on this game.

i hope the paragliding is a button command because i really want to see the karts take some serious jumps and landings. why the heck would i want to paraglide all the time after a ramp ??? . hoping and wishing nintendo reads this comment.

I think they're still automatic. It's a shame, really, having the option between paragliding and not paragliding could make for some interesting strategies and shortcuts.

i dont like the flying, deep-sea diving or biking... its suppose to be mario KART.

although the roller coaster type tracks look good, it almost makes f zero redundant. why would nintendo do that. thats the whole point in having a difference between f zero and mario kart- they do different things.

it seems nintendo want to please everyone, but in the end will end up pleasing nobody.

it seems everything is a cost cutting exercise with nintendo nowadays, which is good for them, but not good for us if it comes at the expense of the gaming experience.

it seems instead of giving us two games, mario kart 8 and f zero, nintendo are creating a hybrid to satisfy all.

the same way at first wii sports seemed great, until you realise that is the model for every new nintendo title in the future- lump all the games in together in a mini-game collection.

so, instead of going all out to make a tennis game, or a jet ski game, or a game based around flying- just create half-assed mini games and put them all on one disk. win for nintendo, loss for us.

no next gen pilot wings, wave race, 'tennis game' etc... just these hybrid games (mini game collections)

Ummmmm Listen to yourself you want to bash a game that will probably be great because it's not a game that has one element. If you want to play a game that has you driving around flat surfaces why not just pick up forza or a game like that.

For one the gliding part will be due to the jumps having huge gaps.

The vehicles give you different options you don't need to drive a bike get a regular Kart.

This game is all about fun and one Nintendo has done is once again set the bar for the next rip offs of Kart gamings and just like with Mario 3D world this demo more than likely is not the final representation of the final game expect to see way more.

So what is funny about you is the way you form your comments. Not only do you frame them as though Nintendo is trying to screw everyone over and feed people games they don't want, but your best remedy to this "injustice" from Nintendo is to comment on several N4g articles. If you truly cared about your "cause", you wouldn't make another comment on N4g. You would instead actually make these complaints in places where they would be most likely to hear them. You are a problem to your cause and not a solution.

Personally I think you are full of crap and just a troll who doesn't really care at all about making gaming better and would rather just complain all day, but on the off chance that I'm wrong, I suggest you go on miiverse or directly write and contact Nintendo. If enough people share your sentiment (I'm guessing they don't) and do the same (I'm guessing they won't) then you may be able make some change.

Thepcz3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

there is no cause, its just my opinion. im not trying to start a movement haha im just merely sharing my thoughts. they arent official complaints lol

i dont need to complain to nintendo, if they have any sense they will look at their sales figures and realise something is wrong.

people keep defending nintendo even when the facts (sales figures) are indicating everything im saying is true.

im sure mario kart 8 will be a great game, but personally, i think mario kart is being diluted and losing the formula that made it so great in the first place. just straight karting, mixed with power-ups. all this power-gliding nonsense is just messing with the formula.

loop-the-loop tracks are fine, but i think they are coming at the expense of a new f zero game

Look's I'll be picking up a Wii-U with Wind Waker HD and this when it releases :)

browngamer413809d ago

As of now this is my most wanted game..can't wait!

ape0073809d ago (Edited 3809d ago )

this, DK Tropical freeze, mario 3D world and then watchdogs (ps4 or X1)

it simply don't get any better than nintendo games

WeAreLegion3809d ago

Might skip this one. I want more emphasis on Battle. I don't even enjoy the racing.

Sgt_Slaughter3809d ago

...

Do I even need to say anything this time?

WeAreLegion3809d ago

Well, say something. I can't just read you from that response. Why does everyone only like the racing? Everyone I know only ever wants to race. I'm a fan of battling.

Misaka_x_Touma3809d ago

then just play battle mode duh

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

gold_drake3d ago

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on

The Next Mario Kart Desperately Needs A Good Gimmick

Mario Kart 8 has been out for nine years now if you include the Wii U version. Despite the Switch port continuing to sell insane numbers since it came out in 2017, many people believed that a new installment was way past due. When the Booster Course Pass was announced instead, it was a bit controversial, with one side of people stating that it was time for a new game, and the other side believing that this was the best course of action and that there's nothing else Nintendo can do to innovate the franchise.

There's nothing wrong with the games, but after most of them being very samey, I got a bit bored. I liked MKDS because it added a mission mode, yeah it didn't have maybe as many as I'd like but it was decent for variety.

I really prefer the new Mario Party for the different types of games in it.

Mario Kart doesn't really feel fresh because you know what to expect for every new game pretty much. The single player mode of DKR was far more in depth a game vs Mario Kart IMO, MK is probably better for multiplayer though.

-Foxtrot302d ago

It needs a campaign mode like Crash Team Racing with open hubs, driving around the Mushroom Kingdom, selecting your races and the like. Have a system like the CTR tokens within the races that then unlock secret racing cups later on or the time relics to unlock other things.

There's nothing wrong with the games but when you've had the same set up for so many games it just gets a bit samey after a while.

They could even have something like a track creator like Modnation Racers or something.

Neonridr301d ago

I always enjoyed the single player aspect of Diddy Kong Racing myself.

Knushwood Butt302d ago

After starting with the first game on SNES, I think the last one I bought was on the DS.

Phlacky300d ago (Edited 300d ago )

I think the next gimmick should be interactive tracks with obstacles and traps such as maybe throwing a shell ahead to make something fall on another player Also have water and mud parts that effect handling more also fire parts that can cause you to over heat if you stay in it to long etc...

Yi-Long300d ago (Edited 300d ago )

I don’t think it needs ‘a gimmick’ so much, because gameplay is pretty much perfect right now, but I would like the next Mario Kart to do either a ‘track-builder’ thing, so you just get access to the tools and make your own tracks (think Modnation Racers or LBP Karting), and/or expand upon ‘Mario’ Kart and open it up to the rest of Nintendo IPs, and just do a ‘Nintendo Kart’, so we’d see more of Zelda, but also Starfox, Kirby, Metroid, Valkyria Chronicles*, etc.

* I know, technically not ‘Nintendo’.
