I'm expecting European retailers to break the street date a few days early.
monkey602  +   658d ago
Heads would roll uf that happened. Im sittimg on boxsets of downton abbey series 4 and love hate series 3 which dont release until monday and extreme fines have been imposed on anyone that breaks street date as well as job losses. They are only dvds. A system would be catastrophic from this perspective

Interesting fact, Sega tried a similar tactic with the Saturn they un expectedly announced in E3 95 that the Saturns were already available for purchase on that day, I think it was set to release on that holiday season but they completely caught people off guard buy announcing it's surprise early launch.

It was a genius marketing strategy on paper, but Sega never thought it though, 3rd Parties and retailers simply weren't prepared, it was a huge mess with hardly any games released in months, the surprise launch ironically is considered the biggest reason as to why the Saturn failed and to a lesser extent the Dreamcast.

In other words the launch DAY of the Saturn was the catalyst to Sega's demise, talk about a Butterfly effect.

Thank you Eyeco
That was really interesting i never knew that or forgot about it :)

I would imagine the panic suppliers would of had, even today with supply lines so much better it would scare the hardest supplier to death an announcement like that on their stock

Ty again

Ah I remember that day actually. I was around back then and wanted a Saturn pretty badly. I had to hunt one down after the announcement because retailers simply didn't have it in stock. This was back when Circuit City and Sears were the only real big box electronic stores along with Babbages and EB Games. I managed to get one after about a week, but games were a long time coming.

Still, that was moving the launch up several months. One week would likely have a much less surprising effect since these things are sitting in retailer warehouses already.:)

OT: Hard to imagine this happening. It may catch some of those people that pre-ordered off guard financially if they were planning on using that weeks paycheck to make their purchase. I'm sure there are a lot of them out there who are going to forgo a few other bills to get a PS4 on launch.:)

I sure hope so. While my hype level is under control for now, it'll be hard to wait two more weeks once n4g and youtube will be filled with Americans having fun with their new boxes. It'll get even harder when my friends will already be having fun with their Xone a week in.

So Xbox One is released in EU 1 week before PS4? how can that be good for Sony :(
Fishy Fingers  +   658d ago
Yep, but I believe Sony have a weeks head start in the US. That territory being their primary focus I guess (MS home turf).

They managed to launch 12 months later this gen and that worked out ok for them, sure a week won't make or break anything.

Japan really helped those numbers out. If PS4 can take the US, that will be a HUGE achievement for Sony.

A week is a short amount of time though. It doesn't matter what releases earlier when we're talking about a week. Because 10 years down the line, that small gap will seem like a spec on the charts that are counting sales.
KNWS  +   658d ago
It doesn't matter now, because people have already picked what console their getting. Changing now will mean you'll have to wait till Christmas or after there is big waiting list for both consoles.
Baka-akaB  +   658d ago
How is one week ahead or behind going to change anyone's mind over a 400 or 500 euros purchase ?
rajman  +   658d ago
Well I agree the PS4 will do better, its inevitable. But Xbox One will be 1 week early in EU and it comes with Free Fifa 14....Fifa is one of the biggest franchises in EU. That game being Free will persuade alot of people to get a Xbox One imo.
Baka-akaB  +   658d ago
But it wont change much in the big picture . As for fifa , well it certainly wont switch any demographic .

For starters a more expensive xbox + free fifa , aint cheaper than getting a ps4 + fifa .

And most of all it's Fifa .. a social microcosmos of its own .
Which fifa lover is going to go against the current set by its friendlist and entourage ? If the entourage is prox xbox , they'll stick together , if pro sony , they'll stick together .

hell most Fifa fans willing to go next gen already purchased a ps3 or 360 version , and plan the 9 dollars/euros switch

How can it be BAD when they are going to dominate there anyway? How does a week may such a difference? Silly comment.

I still don't understand why Europe has to wait another two weeks?
Mikelarry  +   658d ago
to make sure they have enough stock for the US before rolling out to other countries can be the only reason.

but surely European stores have been receiving units by now in preparation? shipping within the two weeks would be cutting it fine.
monkey602  +   658d ago
No european stores have not yet received stock. Theyll arrive a matter of days before launch here. Also in crontradiction to what someone said above. Nowhere is going to break this street date because the consequences would be insane!
tigertron  +   658d ago
@ Monkey602

What makes you think stores don't have stock? maybe not in the stores themselves, but in their distribution warehouses they should have.

@ monkey602

Im pretty sure EU had their stock some time ago, I mean a guy in Dubai (Asia) had his PS4 delivered to him a few days ago due to an error from Amazon

I'm management staff in xtra-vision HMV and have friends in management in GameStop. nowhere in Ireland has yet received theirs anyway.

Our warehouses got confirmation today on their deliveries but yet to receive them.

I'm ok with waiting.

It means I can spend more time reading fanrage comments on N4G.

29th it is then, I have to admit, I got pretty excited about it releasing on the 22nd haha.

Oh well, those 7 days won't matter too much ^^

I'd be annoyed if it was the 22nd after booking the 29th off. I don't fancy having to collect my console from the royal mail warehouse.
Tripe_Down  +   658d ago
This is what Sony would always say, until they come with an official announcement .. why should GameStop and ASDA say on nov.22? No reason!
mgaffar  +   658d ago
The Assassins Creed 4 advert on Tv here in the UK says the ps4 version release date is the 22nd.

That's in reference to the game and not the console. Just like Call of duty was out on the 6th in the UK.
