The two men responsible for overseeing the latest Mario game didn’t start out as traditional game designers. Producer Yoshiaki Koizumi worked as a writer and illustrator at Nintendo. He created the illustrations and packaging for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on the Super NES. (Super Mario 3D World, Wii U)
