CoD: Ghosts retail spend down on Black Ops 2 'due to console transition'

Call of Duty: Ghosts launch-day shipments were down on last year's game, Black Ops 2, and the console transition is to blame, Activision has said.

The publisher confirmed earlier today that retailers has spent $1 billion on Call of Duty: Ghosts stock for last week's launch - as opposed to using actual sales figures as it has done in previous years. Even this figure, however, is down on last year, and the publisher is blaming the volatility of the console transition.

Hopefully, COD is down because people know it's the same game they made 4 years ago. It's the Madden of FPS genre.

Well it makes sense that people may wait to get this on the next gen systems for the same money. I would rather play with all the extra fidelity and 1080p 60 fps, well at least on PS4, and get that for the same price as the other releases. Why would I pay the same price for last gen or inferior version? I wouldn't . I think that's what we're seeing here.

It's not an excuse, its a fact. All cross-gen games are down YOY due to the console transition. This includes Battlefield 4 and Assassin's Creed 4.

No one cares how much stock you sold to retailers , we want to know the numbers of actual sales , you didn't come anywhere near GTAV sales!

I hope COD dies with next gen, it's become the cool thing to buy now even tho it's so crap compared to other fps

I skipped COD and Battlefield this year as I still have yet to finish last year's offerings, I haven't finished them because they are a chore to play.

Well I'm not buying another game for current gen. I'm getting ghosts with my ps4 so maybe they should have released them together. My xbl expires today and it's not getting renewed, as far as I can see Xbox is done.
