Pokemon X/Y’s Post Game Leaves Much To Be Desired

Rich from Pixel Gate writes:

Pokemon X/Y were the first 3D installments in the main Pokemon franchise and in my eyes they did a lot of things right. The customization of the main character, the cool new designs of the new pocket monsters and even the addition of Mega Evolutions, a feature that I actually quiet enjoyed. Although I did enjoy a lot of things that Game Freak threw our way, there is one thing that I can honestly say that disappointed me. The post game. (3DS, Pokemon X and Y)

I've been saying this from the day I finished it. The post game feels barren compared to past games. I spent over 100 hours in every GBA pokemon's post game, and maybe more than that in D/P/P, HG/SS. But in X/Y I can barely find anything to do besides the detective missions, the 3 legendaries and the battle mansion. If you aren't into "catching 'em all", there isn't much there for you. Very dissapointing.

What are you talking about, after you beat the game you EV train, breed, and tackle all the online gaming options GameFreak has implemented.
VitaOwner  +   828d ago
That's what I was thinkin lol Im playing pokemon doing that now. Ev training takes soooo much time there isn't need for anything else lol because them you can battle online competitively indefinitely.
MattyG  +   828d ago
That's all well and good, but not everybody's into that. In fact, a lot of people aren't (EV breeding in particular).

Also, I don't think systems that have been in past games and are accessible before the post game should be counted as post game content. Post game content is like the Sevii islands in FR/LG or the Battle Frontier in Emerald.

How do you do EV training and know how many pokemon you.need to.knock out to max out.that certain stat?

No MattyG, post game content is being able to go back to flippin' Kanto in G&S. My mind was blown by that way back when, and it's still one of the coolest examples of post game ever. It's like a full other game after the main game. I don't know why Game Freak never did this in any of the subsequent games. No post game content thereafter cut it for me. I mean there was good stuff, but never as good as in G&S.

The whole online competitive component is just Game Freak cashing in on the multiplayer trend that's gone on for way too long now. I don't care about "winning" and dominating people for an indefinite amount of time, I just want to have fun that doesn't involved either of those things. I just want to have an experience.

The game already offers more content that most games. Its fine, you need to suck it up and play the online like its supposed to be played.

But to be honest, there is still the friend safari, Battle tower you can do. Plus the island. Combine that with the online options, it seems like you are complaining for no reason.

sell the game back if you aren't going to play competitively. THAT is the heart of Pokemon, on pointless post game crap that take away time from competitive play.

The only pokemon game with substantial post game was gold/silver (due to the Kanto region)

Bought X the day it released but haven't opened it yet.

Still playing through White 2, which I like a lot, but might take it(X) back for LoZ:ALBW

I'd give them a break here. It is their first 3D entry in the series, after all. That's a lot more work than GameFreak's usual.

There is a few good hours of post-game content with the detective side-story, the legendaries, the battle mansion, the friend safari, trading for high-profile Pokemon with the story characters, and the answer to what Mega Evolution is. Plus there's probably still lots of stuff to do in Lumoise.

I hope more legendaries are added though DLC or events. I'm so dissapointed that we only get 3 in each game. Legendaries are always my favorite part of any Pokemon game.

@Name Ah yes, forgot about the birds. Still, not very many compared to prior games.

There are 4 in each game (Xerneas or Yvetal, Zygarde, Mewtwo and one of the 3 birds). 3 event legendary pokemon are also coming later (Diancie, Volcanion, and Hoopa).

"I'd give them a break here. It is their first 3D entry in the series, after all. That's a lot more work than GameFreak's usual."

This is a HUGE copout. The Pokédex 3D has models for every Pokémon from Kanto-Unova, a whopping 649 Pokémons, PLUS a whole bunch more for various forms.

But you know what? I'm not mad anymore. With Hoopa, Diancie and Volcanion, we now have 72 Kalos Pokémons. And I now accept Mega Evoutions as new Evolutions rather than forms, so that's 102 Kalos Pokémons, thus beating Johto's count by only 2!

...although Mega Lati@s are basically the same. 102 isn't as bad, considering Sinnoh is 107.
Blacklash93  +   828d ago
I'm not trying to copout, I'm just providing an understandable explanation.

Do you have evidence they use the P3D models? Even if they do, they'd still have to put in the time and effort to downscale the model quality and repaint them to fit the XY art style. There's also the all-new Pokemon, 3D environments, and the ton of new animations they had to do.

I mean, they did say they had to considerably boost their team size for XY. That outright tells you they were more strapped for resources than usual. And it's not like XY is all that lacking in content to begin with.

meh, when i'm finished with a game that usually means i'm finished.

although with pokemon that usually means i'll still run around looking for trouble...( and pokemon. lol )
but if there's no trouble to be had then i don't really care
it's not like the game is short on content to begin with
doesn't really matter whether it's before or after you finish the game where the content is had.
OMNlPOTENT  +   828d ago
The post game is only boring if you don't like WiFi battles. That's like saying "Battlefield is barren after you beat the campaign". If you don't like multiplayer yeah..
GdaTyler  +   821d ago
What they need to do is make a Ruby/Sapphire remake with that 3D engine.

For some reason I can see them doing something really creative with the Pokemon contests.
