Sonic Lost World Has Sold Just Over 2000 Copies in its First Week Released In Japan

The Blue Blur's newest Wii U title, Sonic Lost World, has not sold well at all in Japan. (Sonic: Lost World, Wii U)

ZodTheRipper  +   666d ago
I probably would start to laugh at myself if I'd be one of those 2000.
abzdine  +   666d ago
very immature comment.
lots of games on PS3 like Puppeteer have flopped but nothing to really laugh about because Puppeteer or Sonic are good games, just not advertised the right way.
Darkfist  +   666d ago
but in japan Puppeteer sold 8900 in the first week and thats a new ip.
Thepcz  +   666d ago
you'd have a collectors item
NinjaRichParty  +   666d ago
Oh man. Only 2076 copies? Yikes.
Neonridr  +   666d ago
Not very good numbers, that's for sure. Are the Japanese gamers usually pro-Sonic? I wonder if the NA numbers are going to fare much better? Especially with the very split reviews on the game.

no they are not pro sonic
sonic989  +   666d ago
japanese people know Sonic very very well he is famous there ( as much as mario )
but maybe its the wii u install base that didnt help the game a lot
as far as i remember it got a very good review from famitsu magazine
i wish this game to succeed because i want more sonic ( as my name suggest )
Phil32  +   666d ago
Sonic is not a good seller in Japan. Still, these are pitiful numbers.

Sonic has not been popular in japan for years.

All you need to do is go to tgs whenever a new sonic game is releasing... sega gives the game zero presence at their booth every year.

But 2000 is just horrible nonetheless...
Knushwood Butt  +   666d ago
Terrible sales, but the Sonic and Mario at the Olympics games (which I in no way endorse) do OK in Japan.
princejb134  +   666d ago
Lol and they say wii u games don't sell. I guess is true
princejb134  +   666d ago
But seriously this is bad for sega. They may go bankrupt if their games keep on unselling

Sega havent made anything that's been a must play for years, I won't miss them. I do thank them for their innovation when they made consoles but that Sega is dead.
KonsoruMasuta  +   666d ago
This really won't affect them much. These games are coming out of an exclusive deal with Nintendo. That probably means Nintendo has already, most likely, thrown some money their way.
PaperClichePixel  +   666d ago

Did you play Bayonetta or Binary Domain, or Yakuza 3 & 4!

We buy good games. I was all ready to buy this until it sucked :/. Bought the excellent deus ex port instead, though the price is what's holding people back on that one.
Misaka_x_Touma  +   666d ago
sonic doesn't sell in japan
sags79  +   666d ago
That's... tough :O
Thepcz  +   666d ago
2000.... that is so poor. we are talking about sonic here, not some obscure character nobody ever knew by a start up company.

nintendo need to slash £100 of the wiius price. then it becomes a very attractive product.

as it currently stands, the big games selling only 2000 units on launch is as good as its going to get
Sizzon  +   666d ago
Not good for Sega :(

I miss the fun times I had with megadrive/genesis.
Smashbro29  +   666d ago
I bet this would have sold much better as a multi platform game.
PaperClichePixel  +   666d ago
This game had left over a of left overs of Super Mario Galaxy!!
MegaRay  +   666d ago
I hope this teach them a lesson tho
CaptainSellers  +   666d ago
Sonic is not as dominant as it used to be and Wii-U sales aren't strong in Japan and 3rd party software has performed poorly on Nintendo platforms for a while now.

Really not surprised, I'll weep if Bayonetta 2 sells as poor as this.
Thepcz  +   666d ago
to be fair though, sonic lost world is a critically shit game.

it would only be worth weeping if beyonetta 2 actually turns out good. then yes, that would be tragic if it doesnt sell.

sonic has been a source of shit games for a decade now. maybe fans have stomached enough
mcstorm  +   666d ago
I have to disagree about lost worlds being a shit game. I'm really enjoying it. Ok its not as good as Mario galaxy but it is still a very good sonic game and one of the best they have make in a very long time.

I don't know if it has been pushed at all in any country as here in the uk I have yet to see a advert for lost world on the wiiu or 3ds. I hope it gets better sales in the rest of the world though.
Thepcz  +   666d ago

yes, if i had a wiiu, i would probably buy sonic lost world, simply because i like the look of it. i thought sonic colours was great.

but lost world was poorly received, critically.

i have also not seen an advert on tv for this game.

its a shame the game didnt get the high scores everyone was expecting, because it really does 'look' amazing.
sega needs to give the 14yr 3D sonic experiment a rest for at least the next 6yrs & go back to the basics. focus on making hand drawn 2D sonic games for consoles with limited 3D effects. if they did a 2D game they could have the game at 1080P resolution, lots of characters& levels (sonic, knuckles, tails, shadow, blaze, etc), the levels & stories for each character could be completely different. how is it possible sega hasn't thought of this. i always hoped sega would have learned this lesson from nintendo's new super mario bros series. just imagine if nintendo didn't give us the option to play 2d mario games an more.
Thepcz  +   666d ago
''14yr 3D sonic experiment''

my mistake, 15yr 3D SONIC EXPERIMENT. you can't make crappy games for years & expect people to still be interested in the franchise years later. eventually benefit of the doubt wears off and your left asking your self the question. what was the last good console game in the main series? and the answer is sonic & knuckles 1994-19yrs ago. all of the 3d sonic games have been questionable because of gameplay mechanics,or the content it's self.

News Flash: Sonic doesn't sell well in Japan. Generations didn't sell well on the PS3.
kB0  +   666d ago
Partnering Sonic with only Wii.u/3Ds only seems to have created a worse output than Sonic 2006....

If they would have made it multiplat it might have sold a little better.

I bought it for 3Ds, its a pretty bad game filled with cheap deaths, and just randomness. THe lock on system is a joke, considering that u lock onto things u do not actualyl want to lock onto (multiple lock ons)

When it plays, it plays well enough but its no where near the sense of speed of Sonic generations or any of the other sonic games. I actually prefered episode 2 more than this!

The 2D sections play as though sonic was a Stick, and has no flexibility.

I honestly got terribly bored of the game. Also graphics are downright terrible on the 3ds, no wherenear Super mario 3D land graphics. The videos are a compressed mess and the background in game is honestly blurry and looks like minecraft textures...

My suggestion, this is a bargain bin game, it's fun for any sonic fan but even Sonic fans' patience will be tested with the cheap deaths and just terribly controlling sonic.

Dimps FTW....Please stop making sonic games! Let others take ur spot.

Disagrees without comments who didn't see this coming? LOL
Theyellowflash30  +   666d ago
He gets disagrees because making it multiplatform doesn't mean it will sell a lot more. Look at Rayman Legends. The Sales flopped on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The Wii U version sold the most.

Deus Ex is currently flopping on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in the UK, while the Wii U version is selling better than both.
kB0  +   666d ago
Your comment proves me right no matter how you look at it.

You are still selling other console versions, don't forget how many people own Wii.Us comparing to PS3s or Xbox 360s or PCs etc. We're talking about what 3 other platforms to add to sales?

Deus Ex was released years ago...it's already created its fair share of sales, Wii.U it's a brand new title...you cannot compare. Your looking at Directors cut edition. Let's not forget the game has also seen hundreds of sales on PC (2.50$) I'm sure a lot of console players even bought it at that price...and If I'm not mistaken it was a humble bundle as well, but I'm not sure bout that.

My comment still stands, with ps3 and 360 even if they sold an extra 50 copies each system, it's 50 copies more than the current amount.

Rayman Legends was a Wii.U Exclusive first, and didn't change it until late in the game, which resulted in extremely poor marketing.

What we can say is, if it was actually a good game, it def would have sold more. It being an exclusive and a bad game all odds are against it. Look at Alan Wake, Fantastic game, but the company didn't even break even, if it weren't for PC release the company would have gone under, so please don't say that console exclusiveness doesn't matter.

Moving on:)

As I see whats become of Segas legend (sonic)
I cannot help*(edit) but feel fear because Nintendo legends will be next.

Younger kids do not play Nintendo anymore, they want COD type games for better or worse.
Nintendo is offering things only a minority of "gamers" want at the moment.

My 11 yr old brother plays Skyrim and GTA V.
He refuses to play Nintendo games.
Thats dumb but telling of the new generation of "gamer"

Smack your brother for all of us. Tell that boy he can't steal another car until he beats Contra.
310dodo  +   666d ago
haha sometimes I want to.
but its just different generations different taste.

My brothers "childhood" games are again Skyrim GTA Uncharted...hard to get them into Nintendo games.
WeAreLegion  +   666d ago
I guess it depends who you are. My brother's childhood was mostly PS2 games, but he finds it easy to go back and play the classics. I think you find an appreciation for those as you get older though. :) He'll come around.
WeAreLegion  +   666d ago
Make a better game. Release it on more systems. It's as simple as that. I prefer 3D Sonic, but only when it's good. Sonic Adventure 1/2 and Sonic Generations were wonderful!
wheresmymonkey  +   666d ago
I bet this doesn't include digital sales. Everyone seems to forget that in japan the games on the eshop for the wiiu are cheaper than they are at retail by `10-15%.
KonsoruMasuta  +   666d ago
Just give us Sonic Adventure 3!
stragomccloud  +   666d ago
They should have made a better game. I already cancelled my pre-order.
tigertron  +   666d ago
I hope Sega releases Sonic Adventure 3 with Generations gameplay on the PS4/Xbox One/PC.
kalebninja  +   666d ago
what about the 3ds version? hopefully sega doesnt regret this temp partnership with nintendo
Kaiou  +   666d ago
Confirmed, nintendo is gonna get EA-ed by Sega soon.On another note, I hope this doesn't effect Persona 5 in any shape or form.(where is Shenmue 3 ...huh? sega!!!)
Chrono  +   665d ago
Wii U is screwed
JackieCruise69  +   665d ago
I blame reviewers and people that mindlessly follow and make desicions based on what the reviewers say. I'm the kind of person that will at least try the game somehow before I myself judge.
A demo would have been nice, though.
