Xbox One Release Date Poll Says Microsoft Preorder Numbers Won’t Be A PS4 Perfect Day

A Xbox One release date poll suggests Microsoft won’t be having a PS4 “perfect day” in comparison to the PlayStation 4.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, we released a PS4 release date shopping guide for finding the best deals and bundles.

Microsoft has previously reported that various Xbox One preorder deals have already exceeded the number of recorded preorders for the Xbox 360. But the original Xbox 1 (not the Xbox One) was not nearly as popular and sold only 24 million units from 2001 through 2005 and was considered a loss leader. The Microsoft gaming division actually lost $4 billion in total from the Xbox 1.

Don't know why people put so much into pre orders majority of them are done with little to no money on the product.

FlunkinMonkey3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

You would have to be an idiot to not see pre-orders as some sort of an indication as to which direction consumers are heading towards for the foreseeable future..

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you don't, as the pre-order numbers are not favourable towards your console of choice..

Right Right?

mkis0073824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

Mr F. That goes both ways. ok so ps4 actual purchases will of course be less than preorders....So will xbox1 ...that is a non issue because they cancel out.

If they don't explain why.

nukeitall3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

@Flunkin:

Did you read the story?

"In comparison, the 2005 Xbox 360 launch year saw 1.5 million in unit sales but then began to pick up steam over the years. In fact, Xbox 360 sales figures in 2013 were actually higher, selling 1.6 million units."

So we know what happened there, right?

Remember when Tretton famously claimed that he would pay you $1200 for a PS3 if you could find it in store?

http://www.dailytech.com/So...

Point being, initial demand is fueled by a group of people that does not necessarily represent the long term buyers of a product.

Once people get the console in their hands and start talking about it, people will start to form a decision. That is when you would have a better indication.

The Wii for instance, had cut all funding to marketing because word of mouth caused them to sell out every single console for the longest time.

FlunkinMonkey3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

@nukeitall

"Did you read the story?"

Yes.

"Point being, initial demand is fueled by a group of people that does not necessarily represent the long term buyers of a product."

Hence, my wording "for the forseeable future". Many different aspects will contribute to the longevity of success towards either console, but as things stand, a reasonable assumption of how well the consoles will be received out the gate can be viewed by pre-order numbers.

Do you think any market/business doesn't take their number of pre-orders seriously when depicting the success of a product? I sure as hell know for a fact they do.

With regards to your piece of Jack Tretton, his comments i feel, are based more on arrogance towards his product, than towards his knowledge of pre-orders, while he may have some indication, he is blowing smoke up his ass, just like any company does.

Pre-orders are good indicators for short term and often long term success. Done.

nukeitall3824d ago

@flunkin:

Of course business take into account pre-order numbers. Why wouldn't they?

My point is, the real demand is hard to gauge when your product sells out.

If you only have 10 and sell out, while the competition has a 100, but does not sell out. Does it mean the competition is in less than demand than you?

Point being sold out is efficiently gauging market demand, it merely means demand exceeds supply in the short term.

Done

Nice job with your economics, but when you consider the instances that happened for the 360 you would see why it increased in sales year over year, and how X1 is actually gonna spiral downward.

When 360 launched it wasn't popular because Xbox original wasn't that great. 360 picked up steam when the coming E3 Sony annouced the PS3 is $500/$600. 360 had an amazing E3 showing Oblivion and Gears. And then the next 2 years we find out that pretty much all PlaySation 3rd party exclusvies are now multiplatform. And also it was a selling point when you can get a Wii and 360 for the price of a PS3. So.. Microsoft had that working for it.

Now for the X1 the momentum is spiraling downward because nothing is working in favor. All the smoke and mirrors have been brought out. The only thing I see that can rejuvenate the X1 is acutally the Kinect. If they come out with some killer apps that appeal for the masses then it could work. However the PS4 is covering its bases by offering the camera, and Sony would be smart enough to market that they can do the samething.

And lastly it's utterly pointless to have such articles because PS4 will win this generation based on my statement: "360 had all the advantages last generation and still lost, what makes you think they will win this generation when nothing is working thus far?"

SpideySpeakz3824d ago

That's Frigid for you; Deny the reality, worship dreams and falsification..

But if the situation was reversed, well..you know.

nveenio3824d ago

If the Xbox One outsells PS4, it will show how uninformed the public is. Just yesterday I saw an Xbox One commercial that said, "The all-in-one Xbox One." It's NOT all-in-one by any stretch of the imagination. Incredibly dishonest marketing.

mediate-this3824d ago

Pre-orders are not always a deciding factor in the future sales of a product. I pre-ordered and am excited for my ps4, but i remember when kz2 had a crazy amount of pre-orders like number one in north america( not exactly sure the number) but on opening day didnt sell the numbers it pre-ordered. So it can go both ways, and obvs games are diff from consoles.

Pre-orders do not tell the final Story but it does tell initial demand. It isn't like pre-order a game which is only 60 bucks. People are more wary with console Pre-orders as the cost is more

nukeitall3824d ago

Pre-order only tells part of the story *WHEN* the supply exceed the demand. Otherwise, all you know is the product is in demand and you sold out. You don't know how much you would have sold if you had more.

Also pointed out in the article is the weaker Xbox 360 launch, but quickly gained steam so even the initial demand in the grand scheme of things is relatively unimportant.

sinjonezp3824d ago

I think people are more knowledgeable in 2013. We Google search everything and eamt to know about the product. If we see that a product is a hundred dollars more and has a weaker grapchis card, uses ddr3 which has been proven to handicap game resolutions and output. Consumers will go with the product that makes the most sense. Yes Microsoft have some decent launch titles but in the end, the research by consumers will yield results; as in buying a quality product at a 100 bucks cheaper. Just my opinion.

H0RSE3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

"..If we see that a product is a hundred dollars more and has a weaker grapchis card, uses ddr3 which has been proven to handicap game resolutions and output. Consumers will go with the product that makes the most sense."

- And do you really think the bulk of the consumer-base, that is everyday run of the mill people, are going to compare prices and say , "well, it's using ddr3 RAM and has a weaker GPU...I'm going for PS4.." No, they're not.. If anything, they are going to see the extra cost and see it justified since it includes the Kinect. Generally speaking, people like getting more things in the package, even at an increased price.

Sure, there will be many who simply choose PS4 for the price alone, but don't for a minute think that the mentality of "it's more expensive it must be better" won't take hold when comparing the two.
It wouldn't even surprise me if the majority of the consumers didn't even know what ddr3 RAM and and a GPU were, and certainly would have no clue wat they were looking at if you showed them each systems specs. Your statement speaks largely for the core audience alone and those knowledgeable in gaming/tech, which isn't the majority.

"Consumers will go with the product that makes the most sense. Yes Microsoft have some decent launch titles but in the end, the research by consumers will yield results; as in buying a quality product at a 100 bucks cheaper. Just my opinion. "

- You seem to be implying that lower cost for more powerful hardware is the only thing that "makes sense," so why would consumers choose anything else? There are a number of factors that will contribute to the purchase of either console, that have nothing to do with price and/or hardware performance, whether it be UI, services, controller, friends, exclusives, etc. Even something as trivial as which one looks nicer will be a deciding factor for some. There's also simple case of parents getting their kids what they want. If a parent asks their kid which console they want, and they say Xbox, well in many cases, parents aren't concerned with research - that's the one their kid wants, so that's the one they buy. All these factors go for PS4 as well.

You're right that people do use Google for everything, but many of them just use it for trivial things, like "who played who in that movie," or "why do farts stink?" People searching for hardware differences on each platform, are likely already among the gaming community or at least are tech savvy. Outside this realm, which constitutes a lot of consumers, there are many clueless people, who know little to nothing about these types of things, and don't care to. Look how many people go computer shopping that know nothing about computers, and I'm not even talking about first time buyers.

Riderz13373824d ago

Pre order a console that you're never going to end up paying for...? What...Why would anyone even waste their time doing something like that lol.

xPhearR3dx3824d ago

I did. I pre-ordered the Xbone on Amazon. Just sold it on Ebay for $200 more than what it's worth. I will now use that suckers money to pay for the Xbox and keep the rest for myself. Profit!

Dehnus3824d ago

Agree, and it does not add anything to the game experience. It isn't like Knack becomes more fun because Ryse sold badly. Maybe to die hard Sony Ponies, but for most it is a fun and good game no matter what Microsoft does :).

Hicken3824d ago

So what do specific games have to do with console sales here? Hell, who say it changes anything about game experiences or enjoyment? This sounds like another of those comments made to downplay what's ACTUALLY happening, and what's ACTUALLY being talked about.

Dehnus3824d ago

@Hicken:
I just find the focus on preorders a bit over the top. And yes it is to downplay "what is actually happening", as I do not see anything actually happening. I see a new generation of consoles which can be a lot of fun. But the severity of "OMG WHAT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING HOW DARE YOU!" is grossly overstated.

Xbots will have fun with their Bone.
Sony Ponies will have fun with their Eraser.
And us Nintendoids will have fun with our Waggle + Touch Controls.

Preorder numbers will not change that.

Hicken3824d ago

But that's what a new console generation is about. Preorder numbers and speculation. Specifically: will the massive advantage in preorder numbers translate to such domination in sales for the PS4? It's especially magnified by the difference in reveals and PR leading up to the launch of the two consoles.

You seem to forget: this is a gaming website, populated by gamers(and probably a few corporate shills). Even if the difference is minor, we're gonna talk about it, because that's what those dedicated to a love of gaming do. It's the same in any other arena.

Besides, there are lots of implications to this gen, even this early on.

Will Sony return to the dominance of the PS2 era?

Can the Wii U recover from its stalled launch?

Will the XB1 suffer from Microsoft's blunders?

Who will the casual crowd side with?

Will we see a reversal of multiplat performance between Sony and Microsoft consoles?

Can the Wii U repeat the runaway success of its predecessor?

How much more improved is the Kinect 2 over the original?

There's a helluva lot to consider, and while it's no final determining factor, preorder numbers DO play a part in all these things. Games like Call of Duty and their performance disparity early on can shape the entire generation, much as one console getting out a meteoric start over the other could. Indeed, the fates of each of the big three- in terms of gaming- could be on the line this generation.

Things set in motion now will impact the landscape we see in a decade. There are no two ways about that.

If anything, I think you're understating the importance of such things.

Dehnus3824d ago

@Hicken
No that is what people in the camp with the highest preorders, seeking confirmation that they bought the right toy, think it is all about. It wasn't about that in NES vs Master System (Unless you where SEGA, NIntendo or developed games for a system), it wasn't about that during the Megadrive vs NES and Later SNES and so forth.

Only for people who are insecure about their purchase it matters. Usually those are 12 years old of "all ages" and tend to have nothing better to do then to watch "pre Order numbers". They could very well look forward that they will have a great machine to play with soon... but they rather fight on forums and websites regarding specs and meaningless numbers like the one above.

Not even kids (not 12 year olds of all ages but actual 12 year olds and younger) act that childish. They would be happy with any of the three consoles, and only care if they can share games with each other or otherwise play the game on the competition's machine for free at a friend's house.

A new generation is only about pre order numbers if you are someone working for that company. For you as a consumer the only things that matter is games, enjoyment and to a lesser extend spec sheet comparison (which gets far too much attention this generation, as really for it's "weaker" specs people who bought a Wii U do seem to enjoy it).

So, no matter how many people tend to press the disagree button, that is my opinion, and I am just as allowed to ventilate that I agree with someone regarding the fact that preorder numbers do not matter for us consumers as you are. Something that Sony Ponies, and to a lesser but still very audible extend Xbots, seem to have a problem with accepting.

Yes I am a former SEGA Fanboy now Nintendoid, and I have no problem with your opinion. Yet so many people here want such a total victory for their toy that any oposition is attacked and otherwise slandered. Not noticing that they actually help the other brand by that. If you bash something enough, it shows that you fear it and you actually get people interested in it. So better let the Xbots and their company crash and burn then to provide this much attention to their console and their former DRM plans.

My last bubble, so I won't say anything else, but my apologies for making it into something as long winded and chaotic as this. Bubbles make me a bit nervous ;).

Hicken3824d ago

"No that is what people in the camp with the highest preorders, seeking confirmation that they bought the right toy, think it is all about."

Downplaying.

"It wasn't about that in NES vs Master System"

Preorder numbers didn't exist. And I assure you, then as now, there were comparisons amongst consumers about what was better than what.

"Only for people who are insecure about their purchase it matters."

Downplaying.

"They would be happy with any of the three consoles,"

Wrong, and downplaying.

" For you as a consumer the only things that matter is games, enjoyment and to a lesser extend spec sheet comparison"

Downplaying, as that's obviously not all that matters. Otherwise we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

"If you bash something enough, it shows that you fear it and you actually get people interested in it. So better let the Xbots and their company crash and burn then to provide this much attention to their console and their former DRM plans."

You're downplaying this whole thing. Cuz it isn't strictly about the product. It's about what accepting a product can mean to the company that makes it, and what message it sends to the competition. It's about how it affects an industry that we all love and want to flourish. It's about protecting the well-being of our hobby, or our passion, or our favorite waste of time.

For you to think we should all simply be content to accept whatever enjoyment we can get out of gaming, and leave it strictly at that, is downplaying the fact that it can be and IS more important than that to others. Yes, it's your opinion, but your opinion inherently downplays these factors.

H0RSE3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

"Preorder numbers didn't exist. And I assure you, then as now, there were comparisons amongst consumers about what was better than what."

- Yes, we understand this... He wasn't arguing that comparisons and such didn't/don't exist, he is arguing the importance or relevance of them. Say Sony outsells MS 2 to 1 - is this going to somehow cancel out the enjoyment xbox players have? Is it going to make the games less fun to play? Is it going to make the overall experience lackluster? Probably not.

From a gaming perspective, pre-order sales have little to no importance, and serve little more than fuel for console wars, resulting in chest-beating/ epeen stroking behavior. From a competitive/business standpoint, they become more relevant.

"Downplaying, as that's obviously not all that matters. Otherwise we wouldn't even be having this conversation."

- You're absolutely right - and this goes back to his first comment:

"No that is what people in the camp with the highest preorders, seeking confirmation that they bought the right toy, think it is all about."

- Other than games, the things that matter here are personal gratification and a sense of justification/satisfaction that people made the "right" choose based on nothing more than essentially the results of a popularity contest... You fell right into the category of people he was describing...

"For you to think we should all simply be content to accept whatever enjoyment we can get out of gaming, and leave it strictly at that, is downplaying the fact that it can be and IS more important than that to others"

- Two separate ideas going on here. Something being important to you and/or others and something actually being important, are not one in the same. Also, he was not suggesting that we just "accept" whatever we're handed, but rather that pre-order numbers are irrelevant in terms of which console is "better."

"Will Sony return to the dominance of the PS2 era?

Can the Wii U recover from its stalled launch?

Will the XB1 suffer from Microsoft's blunders?

Who will the casual crowd side with?

Will we see a reversal of multiplat performance between Sony and Microsoft consoles?

Can the Wii U repeat the runaway success of its predecessor?

How much more improved is the Kinect 2 over the original?"

- none of these questions has anything to do with pre-order numbers... mind you, the article is discussing launch sales, not sales or the "health" of the console throughout it's life cycle.

any bad press for xbox one is a good thing, they really need to pull their heads out of their arses, they need to strip down the size of the memory allocated to kinect and os features and give some back to games surely the latest revelation regarding ghosts has confirmed this.

Scatpants3824d ago

I think the resolution on Ghosts is more a GPU issue than a ram issue.

H0RSE3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

I think it's more of a developer issue, whether due to receiving kits/drivers too late, or simple unfamiliarity with the system. If the X1 is running a game like Ryse at 900p, a game developed by Crytek who is known for pushing systems to the limit, do you really think COD was such a resource hog that it couldn't achieve higher than 720p?

quinten4883824d ago

Of course they won't, $100 makes a big difference.

5eriously3824d ago

To be expected, you get 50% less pixels for your money as well as a weaker underpowered electronics device in early comparisons and paying $100 more.

My biggest reason is I do not trust M$ at all. To many 180's that could easily become 360's sooner than later after release. Their constant lying FUD and playing down serious issues confirmed my final decision to stick with the PS clan. I will get a Kinect2 for PC if ever it gets released or hacked.

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

Bethesda France mainly did publishing and marketing within the region

What a stupid thing to say. The elites give 0 fucks what we say on an obscure website in the comments section.

Profchaos16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

Bethesda France focused on publishing and marketing in the region. And 15 people lost their jobs as part of the closure.

I wonder if this is part of Microsoft's strategy to abandoned physical media or possibly gamepass advertising makes their roles redundant you don't need to market a game as hard when the majority of players get the game as part of a sub which already promoted upcoming games

Tacoboto15h ago

It's France too, there's a high likelihood only 1-2 people on the team even had an Xbox.

Profchaos15h ago

Possibly guven all the leaks we know the Xbox brand is really struggling in the region.

Yi-Long12h ago

Well, if your consoles and games are barely found in any stores any more, of course you're gonna struggle finding consumers ...

Tbh Microsoft I think Bethesda being 3rd party same with Activision would probably more competitive than thus scenario imo
