Xbox One Vs PS4 Exclusives

Angie Santiago of SpawnFirst discusses the Xbox One and PS4 exclusives: "The image above lists all of the exclusives coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 known to date. Clearly Sony has gotten on the ball snatching up exclusives. It is important to note, however, that the mass majority of the PlayStation exclusives are indie games. The list, while impressive, leaves a lot to be desired on the Xbox side. While the quantity on the PlayStation side of this list is rather impressive, what about its quality?"

That list will need to be updated when Sony reveals new games on 11/14

Enemy1447d ago (Edited 1447d ago )

And at the VGAs. Too soon to make these lists. The consoles aren't even out.

Death1447d ago

Are you a little bit concerned at the amount of "indie" games Sony is focusing on? Indie titles are typically low budget. I don't see how this moves the platform forward. What is the point of all the power if it is used on games that can run on a smart phone or tablet? Indies seem like a good fit for the PSP/Vita platforms, but for the PS4 or Xbox One I think they simply water down the library.

Drekken1447d ago

Yeah, Death because more choices are a bad thing. Sony has continually delivered quality first party titles throughout the PS3's life cycle. The games are STILL COMING for the PS3. How could the inclusion of Indie titles be a bad thing? Sony hasn't pulled SMS, ND, GG, or anyone from AAA titles to start developing Indie titles. You always try to point out negatives for Sony and it isn't working. Just give it up.

xHeavYx1447d ago

@Death
You are trying too hard.
You should be the one worried that the One is less powerful, and we all know who wins when it comes to 1st party exclusives.
When was the last time the 360 got a new IP?

Enemy1447d ago (Edited 1447d ago )

Sony isn't "focusing" on indie games. Notice those indie games aren't being developed by their 1st parties? Yeah, I can't tell what the hell you're talking about. They're letting indie developers release whatever they want on the PS4, and in the process, securing even more PS4 exclusives. This helps especially for when we're waiting for the next GOTY from Sony.

If more games are "concerning" to you, then don't buy a Sony platform. It's games all the time.

I'm surprised I've never seen you post a single concern about Microsoft's 50% weaker hardware, and their need to mislead the public by using ultra high-end PC footage and advertising it as Xbox One footage (which in reality is stuck at 720p). That's what should concern you. Microsoft making that last minute decision to buy TitanFall should concern you as well. Means they don't have nearly as much 1st party games coming up, and guess what else? This is exactly how Microsoft started last gen. Secured one or two "exclusives" from big publishers at the beginning, and was denied any further buyouts 1 year later.

Wait until CBOAT releases the next bomb soon. It'll be the worst yet, even worse than the already tragic ESRAM issues.

Death1447d ago (Edited 1447d ago )

If indies are your thing, God bless. You are missing the point of what I am saying though. Indies aren't really more choice. They are games that really don't belong on the platform or atleast shouldn't be counted the same as an actual retail release that shows what the system is capable of. Look at the COD debates. People say that COD isn't next gen because the visuals aren't good enough. How are indies helping either system look more next gen? Yes, Sony still has 17 of their 22 studios up and running. Of the 22 studios, what are they releasing on the PS4? I can name off a few IP's that they have released, but to me they should be the focus and not indies which are simply "filler" games. While we are discussing this, what new IP's are SCE working on for the Vita?

Sony does put out the most exclusives between the two platforms. Of these exclusives how many are actually successful? The last exclusive new IP I got excited aver was Last of Us. Great game. What was the last new IP before that?

As for worried the Xbox is "weaker", neither system is tearing it up. If I was looking for the platform with the most power I would simply use my existing PC which outperforms both of the new consoles.

Heisenburger1447d ago (Edited 1447d ago )

Well, honestly with companies like EA and Activision on the 'AAA' end, I'm very grateful for Indies.

I recently became converted myself after playing a few, namely The Lone Survivor.

Third party tend to not take risks with ip.

EA, Activision, ECT all release dude-bro crap and sequels/prequels.

I don't only want shooters. I LIKE shooters, but only when they are coupled with unique experiences.

I would be long gone from gaming if it weren't for studios like Naughty Dog, Telltale, and the creator(s) of Lone survivor.

I'm all over BF4 when my PS4 arrives, but I need variety.

That's Playstation brah.

Pogmathoin1447d ago

@Xheavy, will have both consoles, does not bother me that PS4 will have more new IP. New IP also does not always translate into a good game. Looking forward to some great games on X1 too, does not bother me that they may not look as good as PS4. I believe people have lost focus on the games sometimes. Indies are great or terrible... preference I guess... It is good that there is 2 major players in the console business, if not you would have one just emptying your wallet and offering no innovation in return.... forget about the Nintendo response too before throwing back a smart answer...

kreate1447d ago (Edited 1447d ago )

I would agree w death's comment if sony only made indie games.

But its been proven over and over again sony makes lots of high quality triple A games. Hell its still coming out.

How can u be concerned that sony is 'focusing' on indie games?

Microsoft already showed off all their games. Hopefully they show more. But sony's strategy is to have games come out consistently so there is no drought.

Hicken1447d ago

@Death: Once again, you forget that Sony actually has first party studios developing games.

I know, I know. It's hard to imagine how the XB1 will compete once Naughty Dog, SSM, Media Molecule and the rest have released their games. But that doesn't mean you can go forgetting they exist.

Pogmathoin1447d ago

Sony excels with first party, have for a long time... MS have not, but they have invested a lot over the last few years, it may still be too early to see results.

Launch day exclusives are what’s going to help the console gain the most momentum but it is also important to keep in mind that console lives aren’t solely determined by day one releases. All consoles have a life span and, during that time, the games that release post-launch account for just as much of the console’s success as the day one launch titles do.

Apparently some people on this site have forgotten this tadbit :).

GDDR6_20141447d ago

Launch day exclusives are definitely better on Xbox one

bicfitness1447d ago

If you completely ignore Indies, perhaps. Even then what you said is the definition of "subjective". I for one, am looking forward to all the F2P and MMORPGs - Warframe, Warthunder, DCUO - many of which are available day one on PS4. Again, subjective, as they appeal to my tastes and I do not speak for society as a whole.

Adding an "in my opinion" to the beginning of your statements in the future would do you a world of good.

gamer20131447d ago (Edited 1447d ago )

Those MMORPG's will still be better on the PC.

Most people do prefer Xb1 exclusives I know that around here that can hurt some feelings but it's true. Xb1 also won the most awards at E3. It is what it is.

MysticStrummer1447d ago

I'd rather play Killzone than any of XB1's launch exclusives.

Drekken1447d ago

KZ seems to be the only title worth the admission price for either console right now. I am pumped up for KZ:SF!

isarai1447d ago

opinion =/= fact

absolutely none of what XB1 offers day one has me as excited as KZSF, and KNACK. Not only that, but day one means very little, i don't care if PS4 had no games day 1 if they were still coming out with their current lineup i'd still prefer it over XB1. these libraries are supposed to entertain us for the next 7-10 years not a month or so

hello121447d ago

X Box 1 has more first party exclusives on launch, that's just a fact.

bicfitness1447d ago (Edited 1447d ago )

Dead Rising 3, Crimson Dragoon and Ryse are not 1st party. That is a fact. Saying the word "fact" does not simply make a statement true. Except in my case, as I am correct. Games made by someone other than MS Studios are not 1st party. They are 2nd (or 3rd* added for clarity for the lazy readers and knee-jerk reactionists like Death) party and published and/ or funded by MS.

For your continued education regarding the gaming industry. You're welcome:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

Edit: As far as I recall, the only 1st party MS games available at launch are Forza and KI. A lot of the games on both sides of that now infamous list are "launch window", which is not the same as launch day. I would like to see an X1 launch day list, if anyone has a link.

Edit #2: Death, mince words all you like. The games I mentioned fall somewhere between 2nd and 3rd party - those studios are NOT owned by MS. Crytek is not OWNED by MS. Capcom is NOT owned by MS. We don't have access to the details of the contracts between these developers and MS to give us further insight on the games in question. Did MS fund Dead Rising 3? Did they fund Ryse? Or was it simply a convivial relationship that resulted in an exclusive? In either case, they certainly are NOT 1st party. My God, did you even read, or just post? Read on to 3rd party and you might have a clear picture.

Do keep in mind that Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, even you if you wanted. So let's not use that as an absolute source of wisdom. Only a point of reference.

Death1447d ago

From your Wiki:

"Second party developer is a colloquial term used by gaming enthusiasts and media often used to describe two different types of game development studios:

Independently-owned studios who take development contracts from the platform holders and what they produce will usually be exclusive to that platform.
Studios who are partially or wholly owned by the platform holder (also known as a subsidiary) and what they produce will usually be exclusive to that platform.
In reality, the resulting game is first party (since it is funded by the platform holder who usually owns the resulting IP), but the term helps to distinguish independent studios from those directly owned by the platform holder."

Not sure how much Microsoft funded on these two titles, but from the looks of it they are indeed first party titles according to the Wiki you provided. Thanks for the education.

christocolus1447d ago

@bicfitness

its just like beyond and heavy rain on ps3..though 2nd party most gamers regard them as 1st party sony titles..but anyways 1st or 2nd party it doesnt matter, cos the bottom line is that they are exclusive and so i guess what KNWs was trying to say is that ms has more exclusives titles at launch....

raWfodog1447d ago

Whether first party or third-party, wouldn't it still be nice to see what's in the pipeline after 'launch'?

Also, do you know which ones are day-one launch and which ones are in the launch window (which could be weeks after the initial launch)?

Dragonborn3121447d ago (Edited 1447d ago )

I decided that I was going to get the console that has the games that appeal to me the most, and that is the Xbox One. I am very excited for DR3, F5, Ryse, Halo, Titanfall, Project Spark, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Killer Instinct, etc... This is just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own. I do not have the time, money, or effort to invest into getting a quality gaming PC so please don't tell me that I could just get a bunch of the games I listed on PC.

PlayStation_41447d ago

opinions are opinions.

but BTW, you don't exactly need a gaming PC to play games like Titanfall and Project Spark on PC if you can play in the lower settings (low-mid).

Personally, there is no reason for me to get an X1 because all of the titles which interest me, bar Sunset Overdrive (which may or may not be good) are all on PC. Just my opinion though.

Dragonborn3121447d ago

I respect your opinion. To each their own :)

BlackTar1871447d ago (Edited 1447d ago )

Sunset overdrive looks dumb. Insomniac make at best average games.

I also find it funny how awesome DR is now. No one agve a crap about it back then they sure as heck didn't care about part 2 but now part 3 is a launch exclusive and its ZOMG amazing. CAN'T WAIT

mightyhokie1447d ago

I agree. I feel that the X1 meets my needs much better. I loved DR2, am super stoked for Ryse, and have already gotten AS4 preordered it. Add the fact I can hide my cable box and surround sound behind the wall along with my remote controls and control it with my voice through the X1, and I was sold. I already use my 360 for 80% of my non-gaming entertainment needs and I was sold when I saw the cable guide and all that. X1 is for me and there is no doubt that the graphics will be pretty equal between the two rather quickly if not already. The PS3 was supposed to have much higher graphics than the 360 but it never happened.
That being said, I came to this site from another (cough*vg247*cough) because i reeeeeeally got sick of all the MS and Sony bashing there. Just because you want an X1 doesn't mean you hate the PS4. I wish them both success. Why? Because I'm a freaking gamer and love the business expanding.

Dragonborn3121447d ago

I completely agree with everything you just wrote! I hate all the fanboys who constantly bash others for not liking the same things as them. I am going to get an Xbox One but I still think the PS4 is going to be a great console with great games. The fanboys on this site (and just in general) are so ridiculous.
