NBA 2K14 Next-Gen Hands-On Preview - AusGamers

AusGamers has taken NBA 2K14 for a spin on next-gen and has written a lengthy preview of what sets this game apart in the series and talks about why it should be considered one of the only true next-gen games launching this November.

"Each arena has its own LED display in the real-world, and while they’ve used a picture-in-picture display to represent this in previous games, it was, for all intents and purposes, a pretty flat and cheap way to do it. Now, however, with the power of the next-gen machines, Visual Concepts has taken lighting to a whole new level, individually lighting each LED light on a whole screen. Each one of these is a separate light source, also. Colours are all correctly separated and illuminate the space correspondingly. Moreover, VC also went to the trouble of not only reproducing every ceiling light in every stadium (and counting them -- some have more, and others less), they looked up each manufacturer to learn all the nitty gritty details behind each light, including what temperature they emit via kelvins. All the lights then play off each other correctly, filling each stadium with unique tones and saturation. And this is just lights." (NBA 2K14, PS4, Xbox One)

I'm loving the fact the VC is constantly trying to build on it's foundations. They could have easily mailed it in and ported up to next-gen. Mostly, they would have been given a pass. However, instead, they created something that keeps the legacy of the 2K game as a foundation to build upon. Thus far, with the limited amount of coverage, I have been nothing but impressed by what they have achieved. If it plays anywhere close to as good as it looks, then I will be a very happy gamer.

I was actually hoping to see some more of Live '14, because I use to love those games back in the day. But all they keep showing are stupid dribbling videos. Lol.

2k14 looks pretty awesome though, so this will most likely be my choice as well!

I don't know about Live. There is a definite trust issue with that one. They show the dribbling, which is good. But, less than 2 weeks to go and no full gameplay vids!?!? I know they are just getting back in the game, so competition is welcome. But, imo, flaws and all 2K has still been the more complete basketball game.

No argument here. I guess I'm just living in the past remembering playing Live '95 for the snes when I was about 5 years old. Haha.

But without any true gameplay vids of Live like you said, I'll spend my money on 2k since I know that will be a quality game.

I am buying a PS4 day 1, this is the title I am waiting for (nothing else on the launch lineup interests me)

Can't wait.
