Wii U: Nintendo Sells Under 500,000 in Six Months

Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii U sold just 460,000 units worldwide in the six month period ending September 30, 2013.

The story is too old to be commented.

will always love Nintendo

they need the rare from n64 days back, not sure where most of them are but they are not at the rare sold to Microsoft so Nintendo could try get them together again... maybe

vishmarx1389d ago

haters just dont know it yet.

Rageanitus1389d ago

They are ruling the portable market, but they lost support from me since the gamecube.

pixelsword1389d ago

They don't know it because Nintendo doesn't show it.

TheTwelve1389d ago

I highly doubt you own a WiiU.

Maddens Raiders1389d ago

Damn. This is not good news for the Wii U.

abzdine1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

i will always love Nintendo but seriously since Wii they have been offering consoles way too expensive for what they have to offer.
Wii was a Gamecube 1.5 and Wii U should be priced same as 360/PS3 because not only what it propose is current gen but it's way behind in terms of games.
They were kinda greedy when they first priced it. I also don't see the use of Gamepad because when you play more than one the others cannot use a Gamepad each and the whole idea of second screen falls short :'(

NarooN1389d ago

As of my posting this comment, you're sitting at 0 agrees and 65 disagrees. That's the largest ratio I've ever seen on this site thus far... (probably 'cause your comment makes no sense whatsoever)

mcstorm1389d ago

Abzdine I have to disagree. The wiiu pad adds to games imp esp on local mp games. Nintendo land is a big example of this and I picked up wiiu party yesterday and they way Nintendo have used the game pad is very creative.

I was not a big fan of the Wii it had some amazing games but for me the console I played the most last gen was the 360. I got the wiiu on day one and yes it has really lacked games since the beginning of the year up until September. But now I have too many to get through in sonic lost world, pikmin 3, wonderful101 and windward. Also with super Mario world 3d, Mario kart, dk and super smash bros all to come before the end of the year and it still has some must own 3rd party games too I think the sales of the wiiu will pickup as long as Nintendo start to push the console like they did with the Wii and 3ds.

I'm excited about the ps4 and Xbox one and have a one on pre order with Forza and ki but I have to say for what I'm interested in at the moment the wiiu has the best line up out of the 3 new consoles and for me the wiiu is a very under rated console.

itBourne1389d ago

Well its about damn time they stop reaping the rewards from 2 franchises. Same damn games have been coming for the past 12 years. Maybe if they actually had some fresh stuff people would be excited.

itBourne1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

One game to fix the problem tho, Pokemon MMO, there is 10 million consoles sold for you Nintendo. Alteast.

miyamoto1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

Worst than the Sega Dreamcast

The greedy Nintendog has barked on its reflection for the last time & lost its bone into the river.
You cant have the casuals and the hardcore in your disguised kiddie platform all at the same time.

Industry monopoly, price fixing, arrogant treatment of 3rd party developers, pure greed on the sucker mom's wallet, selling cheap for more mark up... all these have instant karma that will burry Nintendo to the ground

And thanks to the Kidtendo man-child fanboys for your immature comments and opinions that kept millions of hardcore gamers away from the Wii U

Thank you very much. we can't thank you enough.
You did Kidtendo's undoing.

See you next time when you know how to make HD games Iwata.

Dravidian1389d ago

I love nintendo and all......but what are you talking about?

miyamoto1389d ago

I knew the wii is just a fluke. Saw it in 2009 when I was analyzing which platform to get wii, 360 or ps3.

glad to know i made the right decision with ps3

its way more less expensive but more progressive and overflowing with the best of Japan and the west

knew Nintendo is a kiddie sell out machine
and i will be right again with the PS4

Meanwhile Samsung Galalxy Note 3 has sold over 5m units in 30 days!

So by Next month SGN3 will have surpassed WiiU and PSvita in lifetime sales which is why Devs are more prone to make iOS Games and Android Games instead of WiiU or PSvita games.

Mobile Phones are KILLING handhelds.

ABizzel11389d ago

Proud owner of the Note 3 :D, but I must say gaming is better on my 3DS and Vita, especially since PS+ is popping out extremely quality games on Vita free of charge.

slapedurmomsace1389d ago

So you say smart phones are killing hand helds but use the Wii U, a home based console, as half of your example. Why not mention the DS, 3DS sales? Why neglect to mention phones are marketed to pretty much every single person. Hand helds are focused on a specific group. No one buys a phone as a dedicated gaming device. Furthermore anyone who does play games on their smartphone or tablet and only their smartphone or tablet weren't buying a handheld anyway.

N81389d ago

Yea I honestly feel like if you really love games. Mobile games will never be enough . I have a SGS4 and I play games sometimes but there is no comparison.

XisThatKid1389d ago

Not only what everyone else is is true but has anyone taken in the fact some of these figures about all these phone sales that are upgrades some people only payed 100$ 50$ or even free for some carriers under certain circumstances gamers aren't that lucky or privileged to have anywhere near the deals and breaks mobile carriers put out and add everything what those before me said of course there will be more GN3's. And like most people they lump all the Galaxy Note 1 2 and 3 sales together to help prove their point (this time not being the case but it does happen).

clouds51389d ago

Nobody cares...

Those devs don't know how to make games. All they care about is how to milk money out of us. 90% of mobile games are PayToWin.

That being said, i would LOVE some real and good games on android that support real controllers. There are enough android controllers out there, but not all devs implement them.

The other issue: You are comparing mobile gaming and home console gaming. Two completely different markets, that require totally different games to succeed.

And please before we judge the wii u, let's wait till all next gen consoles are out. The same thing that happened to wii u could happen to both ps4 and xb1, expecially xb1.

Imalwaysright1388d ago

Yeah is that why the 3DS is nearing 40 million units sold?

RIP Nintendo - We loved you and you will always have a special place in our hearts.R.I.P Xx

Metallox1389d ago

Who's dying here is the Wii U, not Nintendo.

solidjun51389d ago

Hopefully you're banned The_Villager so I can say RIP to your account.

TheTwelve1389d ago

All of the Nintendo defenders aren't buying their own console.

LOL_WUT1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

^ This right here! ;)

PopRocks3591389d ago

Probably because they already own one? Where does a dumb assumption like this come from? I've had one since launch.

jcnba281389d ago

Yeah...just like all the Vita defenders who aren't buying the system.

PopRocks3591389d ago

9 disagrees? You have got to be kidding me. The Wii U sold, what, 2 million units in its first two months? All the fans who were going to buy one bought one then. Are you people really this uninformed?

TheTwelve1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

The Wii sold 100.30 units as of this September. The WiiU has sold 3.9 million units so far. Will the Nintendo fans eventually come along to pick the U up?

And this from Wikipedia:

"During its first week of release in the United States, Nintendo sold its entire allotment of over 400,000 Wii U units and sold a total of 425,000 units for the month of November, according to the NPD Group. It also sold over 40,000 consoles in the UK in its first weekend. In Japan, over 600,000 Wii U units were sold during December 2012. According to the NPD Group, nearly 890,000 Nintendo Wii U units were sold in the United States after 41 days on the market.
In January 2013, the Wii U sold 57,000 units in the US. By comparison, the original Wii sold 435,000 in January 2007, also two months after launch."

So all the real Nintendo fans bought it the first two months and now there are no more, @PopRocks359??
