they need the rare from n64 days back, not sure where most of them are but they are not at the rare sold to Microsoft so Nintendo could try get them together again... maybe

abzdine  +   827d ago
i will always love Nintendo but seriously since Wii they have been offering consoles way too expensive for what they have to offer.
Wii was a Gamecube 1.5 and Wii U should be priced same as 360/PS3 because not only what it propose is current gen but it's way behind in terms of games.
They were kinda greedy when they first priced it. I also don't see the use of Gamepad because when you play more than one the others cannot use a Gamepad each and the whole idea of second screen falls short :'(

Abzdine I have to disagree. The wiiu pad adds to games imp esp on local mp games. Nintendo land is a big example of this and I picked up wiiu party yesterday and they way Nintendo have used the game pad is very creative.

I was not a big fan of the Wii it had some amazing games but for me the console I played the most last gen was the 360. I got the wiiu on day one and yes it has really lacked games since the beginning of the year up until September. But now I have too many to get through in sonic lost world, pikmin 3, wonderful101 and windward. Also with super Mario world 3d, Mario kart, dk and super smash bros all to come before the end of the year and it still has some must own 3rd party games too I think the sales of the wiiu will pickup as long as Nintendo start to push the console like they did with the Wii and 3ds.

I'm excited about the ps4 and Xbox one and have a one on pre order with Forza and ki but I have to say for what I'm interested in at the moment the wiiu has the best line up out of the 3 new consoles and for me the wiiu is a very under rated console.
itBourne  +   827d ago
Well its about damn time they stop reaping the rewards from 2 franchises. Same damn games have been coming for the past 12 years. Maybe if they actually had some fresh stuff people would be excited.

Worst than the Sega Dreamcast

The greedy Nintendog has barked on its reflection for the last time & lost its bone into the river.
You cant have the casuals and the hardcore in your disguised kiddie platform all at the same time.

Industry monopoly, price fixing, arrogant treatment of 3rd party developers, pure greed on the sucker mom's wallet, selling cheap for more mark up... all these have instant karma that will burry Nintendo to the ground

And thanks to the Kidtendo man-child fanboys for your immature comments and opinions that kept millions of hardcore gamers away from the Wii U

Thank you very much. we can't thank you enough.
You did Kidtendo's undoing.

See you next time when you know how to make HD games Iwata.

glad to know i made the right decision with ps3

its way more less expensive but more progressive and overflowing with the best of Japan and the west

knew Nintendo is a kiddie sell out machine
and i will be right again with the PS4

Meanwhile Samsung Galalxy Note 3 has sold over 5m units in 30 days!

So by Next month SGN3 will have surpassed WiiU and PSvita in lifetime sales which is why Devs are more prone to make iOS Games and Android Games instead of WiiU or PSvita games.

Mobile Phones are KILLING handhelds.
ABizzel1  +   827d ago
Proud owner of the Note 3 :D, but I must say gaming is better on my 3DS and Vita, especially since PS+ is popping out extremely quality games on Vita free of charge.
slapedurmomsace  +   827d ago

So you say smart phones are killing hand helds but use the Wii U, a home based console, as half of your example. Why not mention the DS, 3DS sales? Why neglect to mention phones are marketed to pretty much every single person. Hand helds are focused on a specific group. No one buys a phone as a dedicated gaming device. Furthermore anyone who does play games on their smartphone or tablet and only their smartphone or tablet weren't buying a handheld anyway.
N8  +   827d ago
Yea I honestly feel like if you really love games. Mobile games will never be enough . I have a SGS4 and I play games sometimes but there is no comparison.
XisThatKid  +   827d ago
Not only what everyone else is is true but has anyone taken in the fact some of these figures about all these phone sales that are upgrades some people only payed 100$ 50$ or even free for some carriers under certain circumstances gamers aren't that lucky or privileged to have anywhere near the deals and breaks mobile carriers put out and add everything what those before me said of course there will be more GN3's. And like most people they lump all the Galaxy Note 1 2 and 3 sales together to help prove their point (this time not being the case but it does happen).
clouds5  +   827d ago
Nobody cares...

Those devs don't know how to make games. All they care about is how to milk money out of us. 90% of mobile games are PayToWin.

That being said, i would LOVE some real and good games on android that support real controllers. There are enough android controllers out there, but not all devs implement them.

The other issue: You are comparing mobile gaming and home console gaming. Two completely different markets, that require totally different games to succeed.

And please before we judge the wii u, let's wait till all next gen consoles are out. The same thing that happened to wii u could happen to both ps4 and xb1, expecially xb1.

TheTwelve  +   827d ago
The Wii sold 100.30 units as of this September. The WiiU has sold 3.9 million units so far. Will the Nintendo fans eventually come along to pick the U up?

And this from Wikipedia:

"During its first week of release in the United States, Nintendo sold its entire allotment of over 400,000 Wii U units and sold a total of 425,000 units for the month of November, according to the NPD Group. It also sold over 40,000 consoles in the UK in its first weekend. In Japan, over 600,000 Wii U units were sold during December 2012. According to the NPD Group, nearly 890,000 Nintendo Wii U units were sold in the United States after 41 days on the market.
In January 2013, the Wii U sold 57,000 units in the US. By comparison, the original Wii sold 435,000 in January 2007, also two months after launch."

So all the real Nintendo fans bought it the first two months and now there are no more, @PopRocks359??

Look, the point is "Nintendo defenders" (that is, "Wii U defenders", as 3DS clearly doesn't need defending) did buy the console. A couple million people bought the Wii U, so you can't make the assumption that the few people you've seen on the internet defending it haven't bought it.
TheTwelve  +   826d ago
Nor can you make the point that every person who we see online saying Nintendo is great have bought the WiiU In fact, I think my point, although unproven, carries more weight than yours based on the facts. Nintendo fans are out their supporting the 3DS obviously, what about the WiiU?

I don't usually agree with Pacther, but he said the same thing:

The RARE that was at Nintendo now work for Crytek as they formed free radical who were bought up by Crytek. under 500k in 6 months is terrible just to put that in perspective the 360/ps3 sells around 1 million a month worldwide. Around 150k in US alone each 150kX6months=900k. Yep the PS3 and 360 outsold the wiiU in the US compared to worldwide thats TERRIBLE.
clouds5  +   827d ago
It's simple. People buy consoles because of games. Ps3/360 have a huge library and still the most popular games coming out for them.
Here is what I think is going to happen: It will take another 2-3 years until the software for ps3/360 dries out and during this time the 360 and ps3 will continue to be the best selling consoles. WiiU, PS4 and XB1 sales will suffer because of this. Right now the fact that CoD: Ghosts is coming for PS3/360 is going to cut HUGELY into ps4/xb1 sales.

People (big mass/regular people, not the fanboys like us) are happy with their 360 and/or ps3. New buyers will look at the prices and the games they want and realize that 360 and ps3 are cheap, have free online (ps3) and some of the best games are still coming out for them.

Hell even I am tempted to get a PS3 atm (I already have a gaming PC and a WiiU), because it has such amazing games.

Now I think WiiU will still be fine but they had the wrong strategy imho. They should release their big system selling franchises first and THEN introduce new titles like Wonderful 101 and HD remakes. Not the other way around...
Aceman18  +   827d ago
Wow I just bought my Wii U this past Thursday with Batman AO. Nintendo needs to sit down with 3rd party devas/publishers and figure out how they can both benefit from each other

The thing is, they're still making a profit. The current president was one of the key guy involved in making the Wii, ds, and 3ds. 3 out of 4 key products were successful and they're deep in the black. Things def need to change but not a complete rehaul of upper management.

It will bite them hard but it is necessary. The problem is 500,000 in six months is appalling amount for a new system and this needs to change soon. The Christmas season isn't going to be good for them (lack of many major releases and being overshadowed by two major console relesses). A price cut before Christmas might help as the Wii U could become what the Wii was (the system people got aswell as the PS3 or 360). Their own software sales could easily close the loss gap

HappyWithOneBubble  +   826d ago
I agree. The casuals moved on to tablet and smartphone games. 3DS does good because casuals like to game on the go. Casuals will not stay home all day gaming.
MightyNoX  +   827d ago
I'm curious, what numbers should the Wii U sell in its --lifetime-- so as not to be labelled a disaster? 15 million? 20 million? If I'm correct, Gamecube sold about that and Nintendo is still standing.
Angeljuice  +   827d ago
It depends how you look at it. 20-30 million sales are required to create a sustainable ecosystem for 3rd Party developers, anything less and its too risky to commit huge resources to the system. You would need that figure to be reached well before the end of the console's lifespan though.

50 million total unit sales would be slightly embarrassing (considering Wii sales), anything less would be pretty much disasterous (from an investor's standpoint at least).

Nintendo will survive no matter how poorly WiiU sells, but if they don't reach 20 million in the next 2 years it will be considered a disaster.
clouds5  +   827d ago
What do you think, how long will it take PS4 and XB1 to reach 20-30 million sales?
Angeljuice  +   826d ago
I don't know, hopefully within 2-3 years. I remember all the doom and gloom reports when I bought a PS3 at launch. I knew that it had to sell at least 20 million in order to survive (you can expect a 10% attach rate on a half decent game and 2 million sales is usually enough to make a developer some profit).

It seemed to take forever to reach those numbers and i was worried that it may never happen (meaning imminent death of the system).

I've backed a failed system before (CD32) and know how frustrating it is to have all that potential and no software to make use of it. Its a horrible feeling, so I hope all the next gen consoles at least make it to a sustainable level of hardware sales.

Maybe WiiU can survive with a smaller install base as Nintendo's 1st party software sales are exceptionally high, but in order for it to thrive, it also needs to be a viable proposition for 3rd party devs.
LOL_WUT  +   827d ago
Each of Nintendo's consoles have shown a decrease in sales starting with the SNES that is until the Wii. ;)
Qrphe  +   827d ago
The Gameboy had Nintendo at good profits all the way through the Gamecube's days. The 3DS will carry Nintendo along even if the Wii U keeps on this state for the remaining of the gen. Nintendo isn't dying anytime soon at all.
Hicken  +   826d ago
Those numbers used to be fine. But when and if the competition is well up over 50 million, it's not so impressive.

There are a lot of other things that go into it, like cost to produce, and price on the market, as well as software attach rate. But I can't imagine any company- especially one with as long a gaming history as Nintendo- being happy with being so far behind other products in the same market.
tigertron  +   827d ago
This is what happens when you become complacent.

I just can't see this selling well at all, not after the PS4 and Xbox One come out.

That said, it'll find it's own little niche market for those who love their franchises.
Knushwood Butt  +   827d ago
Yeah, and it's unforgivable when they made so much money off the Wii.

How do they re-invest that money for the future? They give us an over-priced, under powered console with a controller that nobody wants, then release a slow stream of franchise milks and waste their first party dev teams on HD 'remakes' and crud like Game and Wario.

Then, for their first holiday up against the new competition, we get, wait for it (drum roll), a follow up to a 3DS Mario game!

Nerdmaster  +   826d ago
Well, people also didn't think Wii would sell well against PS3 and Xbox 360, same with DS against PSP, and 3DS against Vita. I guess we have to wait and see.

The difference is that with the 3DS, people wanted to buy it, but it was expensive. So when Nintendo reduced the price, it worked fine. With the Wii U, it doesn't seem people is lining up to try to get Nintendo to reduce the price. Now, with a lower price, even if you don't want one, you might bite, but it doesn't seem like the demand is there either way.
Nerdmaster  +   826d ago
No, people didn't want to buy it. "3D sucks", "it's a DS with 3D", "it's too weak when compared to Vita" are things that people said when 3DS was released. When people wrote doom articles about the 3DS, price was never the only problem - and not even the biggest one. Everything changed only when quality games began being released.

They launched at an Odd time with a console that's more or less playing in the same field as the PS3 and Xbox 360... They launched a year before Real Next gen consoles but 7 years after the current HD generation they just joined. Their Software offerings look no better than what Sony and MS has on PS3 and Xbox 360 and the price of the console is still too high to justify buying one right now.

With all the money they raked in with the Wii, they should have really went in the direction of Sony and MS and launched the Wii U as real next gen console with comparitive internals and software. 8gb of ram and a 6-8 core CPU, and a Southern island family custom GPU.

The WiiU just looks weird, Devs don't even know how to classify it and people seem far more interested in the PS4 and XBOX One!

Granted Sales will pick up over the holiday season, but the software going into Xmas shopping season is weak, comparatively against both the X1 and PS4.

This is a common case of straying too far from the flock... That worked one the Wii, but lightning rarely strikes the same place twice...

Ninty seriously needs to take a hard look at where the industry is heading and move with the pace, because while the Wii was an undisputed sale success, the people who drive the industry forward are the ones benifiting... Both Sony and MS have the industry and gamers salivating.
clouds5  +   827d ago
I agree with you but I'm SO GLAD they didn't.

I grew up in the days where almost every new game was a new experience. As a PC gamer I have/had steering wheels for driving games, joysticks for flight sim/space shooters, mouse+keyboard for FPS and RTS, gamepads for action games.
Games were usually complex to learn and hard to master. And used different control schemes everytime.
I loved it that every game was a new challenge and a new experience. With Playstation and Xbox it is always the same thing. No variety and always the same repetitive gameplay. I think most console gamers would completely overwhelmed with playing a game like Starcraft 2 where you need more than 5 buttons to play it.

I personally had enough of it. I crave new gameplay and Nintendo is doing EXACTLY that, and it is amazing. I loved ZombieU and Wonderful 101 just for introducing new concepts that work and feel good. As good as TheLastOfUs was in telling a story and developping characters, it was more of the same boring, slow and uninspired gameplay that we've all seen 100 times before. The big change is that you have to push a button for 5sec to use a medkit instead of health just regenerating? Really?

When I look at XB1 and PS4 all I can do is *yawn*. Oh another dualanalog FPS... Oh another arcade driver... Oh another 3rd person cover shooter... ETC.

Sadly I feel like I'm about the only person feeling that way... Let's be honest, people just want a new CoD with better textures and a higher resolution.

I feel you're looking greatly at what's become a popular phenomenon in the 7th generation where 3rd person action and FPS have become the standard... I agree that it's been largely wash rinse repeat with these overly saturated genres and experiences, but Hasn't Ninty's biggest criticism been the fact that while they bring new experiences to the industry, the ones that permeate and proliferate are their stapled money makers? You highlight isolated cases, but we just got Pokemon again, we just got a remake of of Zelda, we are getting another Mario this year, and we are getting yet another Zelda, and metroid Next year...

The industry is in stagnation of a sorts, but the ones suffering from it by a great deal is Ninty, over the last 7 years there has been more risks being taken by Sony than the other 2 platform holders and their games have shown that. If anything the big thing that will break up this shooter craze with the Halos, Gears uncharteds, killzones COD and Battlefields will be the resurgence of the Indies which both Sony and Ninty seem to be going after aggressively. And you needn't look no farther back than 3 years till now to see this shift the platform holders are going for with supporting the Indies because they are bring in the fresh gameplay you are talking about...

Look I'm not bashing ninty, just saying it as it is, they are a weird factor in this right now and the Wii U is on the cusp of irrelevancy, I love Ninty to death, I have a 3DS and a ton of games for it, I love Mario, Zelda and Pokemon like any gamer who grew up with the NES and Gameboy era, but they have largely played it safe in software, while taking a gamble on bringing in the casuals... As I've said before, Ninty is having trouble bottling the lightning a second time, launching a console that's a generation behind the next gen won't work again, because the industry is moving forward.

*Wii U
rambi80  +   827d ago
The console part maybe. The handheld is FAR from dead.

Its hard to get gamers to shell out $300 for what they provide. They also have the least competitive software prices of all the platforms.

Changes in philosophy are needed.

Only the WiiU is dying. Are you forgetting that the 3DS is one of the hottest pieces of hardware on the market?
Kos-Mos  +   827d ago
Your brain cells are dying :(
Yup, The Wii U is gonna fail and I'm gonna sell it if it doen't improve

Problem is none of Nintendo games interests me expect for smash bros.

Oh well.
KILLERAPP  +   827d ago
Is only going to get harder for Nintendo.
Metallox  +   827d ago
Where are the new games, Nintendo? You really deserve this.
The Wii U was doing better than what the Xbox 360 and PS3 did in ita first year and everyone thought that Sony and Microsoft were doomed. And the Xbox 360 and PS3 are still growing strong. This might happen the exact same way with the Wii U

Of course the only one with logic has only 3 bubbles, while the ones who defy logic have a crapload.

That's N4G for you.
ivan510  +   827d ago
I disagree with you because the wii u has been out for almost 1 year now and its only sold ~3.9million consoles. The xbox 360 sold ~6million consoles first year. Also take into consideration that there were less "gamers" then there are today.
Angeljuice  +   827d ago
There weren't two far superior consoles launched a year after the PS3 and 360, if there were they would both have failed.
milehighshooter  +   827d ago
the difference is the xbox360 and ps3 had lots of games and the wii u don't have no 3rd party support
Kos-Mos  +   827d ago
Haha, what games?
truechainz  +   827d ago
lol one bad thing about n4g is repeat articles. I'm sure this article that has already been discussed like 10 times, will show up from 10 more sources.
ivan510  +   827d ago
Its just that nintendo is still trying to cater to little kids and it worked well with the wii but those kids are grown up and the wii u doesnt suit them anymore. And devs arent working on the wii u because its weak. They need to appeal to the masses. I think this will be Nintendos last system or they will make something up to par with the xbox one/ps4. They have too.
SaffronCurse  +   827d ago
Really sucks for Nintendo. But in my opinion, they should of named it something else. Used to work in retail and got so many mis-information about it. People thought it was an add-on to the wii\Add-on. Poor choice of a name and poor marketing results in poor sales.

It will never sell as much as the Wii, that's a guarantee.
SuperLupe  +   827d ago
Terrible terrible choice of name. It still baffles me how out of touch top execs in such big companies can be. Same goes for the intitial Xbox One with the DRM, 24h check in and all that.
BLKxSEPTEMBER  +   827d ago
The real problem with the Wii U is it should have come out in 2006-07. If it did Nintendo would still be in the console race. But instead being typical Nintendo they chose to do what THEY want and not what WE want. Let the punishment fit the crime...
xxxGEOxxx  +   827d ago
It would be a shame to see Nintendo go the way of Sega, but looking at the flip side, that could also mean that if (big IF) they do drop out of the console business due to bad sales, they might bring their software to different systems. I can only imagine Zelda on PS4/XBOX1......niiiice!
MadMen  +   827d ago
Like I have said, WiiU is dead.

Do yourself a favor move on to the PS4.
