Nintendo Voice Chat: Should Nintendo Charge for Online?

Rise Koopalings and join host Jose Otero, Peer Schneider, Sam Claiborn, and Colin Moriarty, as they talk about one of the great franchises of the 8-bit era: Konami’sCastlevania. Since we had too much ground to cover for just one episode, we’ll be recording a follow up to this episode in a week. (3DS, Nintendo, Wii)

Why attach a video that has nothing to do with the title? Anyway, I listened to the actual voice chat, and I have one thing to say about charging online:

NO.

In its current condition it would be foolish for Nintendo to charge for online usage.

However if Nintendo's online service were ever to come on par with XBL, PSN and their third party support was to get better, not charging would be a strong point for them.

I agree, and I applaud Nintendo for not charging online.

It would kill the Wii U if they did. The online service isn't their just yet to start charging for it and nor is the console sales. Just maybe tbe next generation but not this one

I'm gonna take it up a notch and say "HELL NO".

I like having the Wii U, but aside from using Miiverse and occasionally Nintendo TVii, it's just not worth it to pay for online. I do most of my online gaming on PSN, PC and Live, and my Nintendo gaming is more for single player exclusives.

I really don't get it. It's not actually a good thing that Sony charges to play online now. The fact it's bad is offset by the fact that PS+ is an amazing value to begin with, but it's still sucks for many.

Will it improve the service? Maybe. But I've seen PSN improve dramatically over this entire generation. Day 1 was drastically different than it is today.

These are the kinds of things we should be saying no to, not accepting as the norm. The fact so many people accepted it as the norm this gen from MS is why Sony fans have to pay now.

In case people haven't noticed, voicing our discontent in harmony does seem to have an effect on what these companies are offering us.

But damn Sony for making PS+ so attractive I would have it regardless of this requirement. How can I rail against something I already have paid in full for 2 years?

Really?! *facepalm*

If it takes paying for better online service with Nintendo, I guess so.

Their current online system is serviceable, but it's not worth charging for.

Also, how was this approved?

Sony and MS shouldn't be charging for online either.

Id avoid any console that charged to play online.
You buy the console
You buy the game
Yet they still wanna charge you every month to play online.
Rip off!

Nintendo online cant be faulted, 2 main games I play online is black ops and tekken, theres never any lag or crashing, everything plays and runs smoothly.
I use the Internet on my wii u more than I do on my laptop.

If Nintendo can do it then why cant Sony or MS.

You do know what position nintendo's wii u is in right now, correct?
Not only that but, Nintendo's online service is inferior to even the Dreamcast in certain aspects.
A move like this will destroy any chance the Wii U has left to survive this new gen.
worldwidegaming  +   417d ago
missing a whole lot of features.
How about allowing me to have a screen name that I can log on any Wii U? Some sort of achievement/trophy system?
What would I even be paying for?

It doesnt even have an account system let alone a big enough game library. So many good Nintendo games missing on the store. Also theyre priced too expensive.

Heck I just downloaded every Nes, Snes, N64, Gamecube and Wii game for free on PC. Also with Dolphin emulator the games are in higher quality.
