ZombiU: The Unsung Hero Of 2012

Sean Halliday of Pixel Gate writes:

''While the Wii U may be faltering on a number of fronts, I have still had some of the best recent video game experiences on the console. Oddly the newest system on the market managed to recreate some nostalgia, and I’m not talking about Mario.'' (Wii U, ZombiU)

ZombieU was one of the best games I have ever played, and I've been playing since before Galaga was in arcades. It is now cheap in the Wii onine shop.

It's not perfect, but it's certainly a brilliant showcase of modern survival horror

Damn... what's up with all the disagrees you guys got? I thought it was good... could have been better, but one of the best launch games for the Wii U.

I think it was kinda half-assed though. Really would have benefited from an online multiplayer mode(s). The Wii U lacks the online of the other consoles, and if Zombie U, NintendoLand and Super Mario U had online MP at the launch of the system, it could have set a precedence for Nintendo's online capabilities. It was a missed opportunity for Nintendo to come out swinging.

"Modern survival horror", maybe, but who cares about that? Modern big publishers' idea of "survival horror" is so deluded, it just means having zombies in it now.

And sadly, not even players know anymore. Most people that played the original RE games or Silent Hill are adults now and the scales are starting to lean towards new players that have never even played a real survival horror game.

The disagrees are because most people think the game is mediocre. I tend to agree with the mass majority on this particular subject. But that's just my opinion. It's not a terrible game by any means, I just found it pretty average.

"ZombieU was one of the best games I have ever played, and I've been playing since before Galaga was in arcades"

I don't even remotely believe you, unless you avoided great games for the last 30 years.

Yeah, a pretty great experience.

Almost a year in, and Zombi U remains the showcase game when it comes to Gamepad implementation. Seriously no other Wii U game makes such good use of the gamepad as Zombi U does, and that was a launch title.

Indeed, we'll be having a few more posts on Wii U titles that stand out in the coming days. Zombi U is still the beast example of the pad being used to enhance the gameplay experience rather than be just a gimmick

I know this year hasn't ended yet, but I'd dare say Wonderful 101 will be the Wii U's unsung hero of 2013.

In my opinion, that game is MUCH, MUCH BETTER than the majority of reviews give it credit for. It actually has become my favorite game of all time, and seeing that I'm 31 years old and have been gaming for about 25 years, that's no small feat.

Still havent finished the game but I think it is awesome. I do think there should have been alot more skins to the cricket bat though.

Awesome game. I hope we see a sequel at some point. Very original. :)

Lets be honest, this game is totally underrated, and deserves a lot more praise than the shallow Deadly Premonition, but it could have been so much better. The permadeath idea was brilliant. The gamepad was brilliant.

But imo there should not have been an actual story. Rather many stories. Every time a you play as a new character from your last one dying, there should have been a new "mission" for that character, whether its trying to find a way back home and see if your loved ones are still alive, or simply trying to escape. It would have made better use of the world taking you to new locations AND made you care more about your specific character since you want to know his/her story. Plus they could have done something clever like have two lovers be characters but never meet since they are both playable and one has to die.

It was a great game though, the atmosphere and sense of dread was simply perfect. All zombie games from here on out should take notes from it.

This game sucks, seriously, repetitive boringly implemented combat and weapons, a terribly generic story with a terrible narrating character from behind the cameras, boring generic enemy archetypes, muddy graphics, and awful sound effects,

This game suffers from red steel syndrome. The first red steel wanted to stand out as an original game to implement motion controls. And it was an awesome concept, but the game had a lot of problems. Then Red Steel 2 came out and fixed a number of those issues. Now Zombie U comes with an awesome concept and great use of gamepad to build suspense, but had other basic game issues. If they had an opportunity to make a sequel that fixed those issues and bring out the best in the game like red steel 2 did, then it would be the game that everyone expected the original to be. I hope they get/take that chance.
ubisoft should do a sequel to zombi u. if ubisoft puts half the amount of thought into zombi u II as there doing with watchdogs, then game should be perfect.
Broomfondle  +   828d ago
Oh yeah. Its not a FPS with lots of guns. Must be crap then.

From a scale 1-10 I give zombieU a 6 the graphics coulda been better the gameplay can get very repetitive since u constantly got to beat the zombies with a stick and they're nothing scary about this game.
