How Battlefield 4 Kinect Features Will Work

In this video, Red Dragon lays out the new Battlefield 4 Kinect features. Will these new features be gimmicky? Or will they be truly next-gen?

I'm not sure it will be a gimmick this gen, I think Microsoft are finally leading the Kinect in the right direction. In the previous gen it was forced in for Kinect only shovel ware games but since it is now bundled in with the XBONE, developers can use the Kinect as how they please, whether or not they have to use it is their choice. Changing the key gaming environment from a triangle scheme (console, TV, controller) to a quad type scheme (console, TV, controller, Kinect).

The best thing about Kinect being bundled is that Rare wont be forced to make Kinect only titles anymore! Hopefully there is some life in the old dog.

if Kinect frees up rare to make traditional AAA games again then that right there is worth the extra 100.

Voice commands could be alright but, the head tracking seems to be silly unless my tv moves as well to position itself directly in front of my field of view. This feature would be better supported by say Oculus Rift where by looking to the left or right would have no effect on your field of vision.

the leaning mechanic sounds interesting if it works, and now calling out for a medic could be useful instead of using the radial. The head tracking could be useful as well. If it works it could show that kinect is being used for more than fluff.

But I'm sure people will still hate it. Also there is no reason this wouldnt show up on the ps4 camera, but would it have been put in at all if kinect was not part of every xb1.

What i'm gettng at is could the ps4 camera be utilized more in AAA third party games due to the fact that every xb1 comes with kinect? If so then MS decision may turn out to be a good thing for all console gamers.

I agree with you on the part that due to Microsoft forcing the Kinect that PlayStation will subsequently benefit. I have been saying that since E3 very smart move on Sony's part whether intentional or not. But the head tracking is still fluff in my opinion. You are trying to reduce the number of variables in a competitive game like BF4 not add to them.

The voice commands seem useful

Having to pause momentarily to hold R2/RT and pick "need ammo" or whatever will be done away with

The head tracking will definitely be useful if it functions the same as ArmA II. Not sure on the voice commands, but definitely looking forward to seeing how this will work in the Battlefield realm!

Let's go ahead and put it out there; the Kinect, the touchpad on the DS4, and, hell, even vibration in controllers are all gimmicks- But they're all useful gimmicks.

the attack of the fanboys...lmao..imo though its a neat touch added to an already impressive looking game...as long as the kinect is bundled in wit every console, xbx fans will have the option to try it out for themselves and thats great and actually quite clever..i see most xbx one games integrating kinect in some way, this is just the begining...good job ms.
