The PS4 Launch, Minus The Hype

Kotaku - "Anticipation is building, and the release date is mere weeks away. There's no denying that a significant chunk of the gaming internet is awfully excited about the launch of the PlayStation 4. I recently had a chance to sit down with the console's big exclusive games, and, without taking anything away from the console itself, found a reality less exciting than the hype would indicate."

Kotaku downplaying the PS4...

Another generation of this crap from them.

NewMonday1825d ago (Edited 1825d ago )

guys, just don't click

etownone1825d ago

You think?

Did you read the article?

With Driveclub, Infamous and Watchdogs delayed....
Only game left buying would be Killzone.
And please, I hope no one will even try to defend that crap Knack.... Looks like a ps3 game.

In all honestly... I think the hype for the PS4 is deserved .. But doesn't deserve a buy from me for just one great exclusive launch game.

Ashes2Ashes1825d ago

Agreed. I was going PS 4 first and then Xbox One. With some of the delays I have actually switched that order. I am getting both but staggering it over about 6 months. Let the PS 4 library build up.

Xsilver1825d ago (Edited 1825d ago )

first Infamous was never delayed Second knack has an audience so it isn't for nothing and if you haven't notice COd ghosts looks current gen but is that stopping people from buying it Nope how do you know knack is crap have you played it. I would never base my purchase of a Console on its launch line up because i'm not gonna be playing those games for next couple years i look at the 24 Exclusives Sony has on its way and that's why im buying a PS4 and don't forget they are allot of third party games to play until then

GTgamer1825d ago

Shiiiid I'm in it for the long run and Sony has a track record for holding us down with awesome games So PS4 for me.

Thehyph1825d ago (Edited 1825d ago )

Stop hating on Knack.

Some people may think it looks like a ps3 game, but Cerny himself has said the game is pushing the ps4 hard with its physics calculations. Given that he designed the system, I'll take him on his word.

You can't just base things on visuals.
It may, possibly, look like a current gen game, (I don't think so) but I bet the Xbox One would have a nightmare of a time trying to run it as I assume the only high bandwidth memory (esram) is a dedicated frame buffer.

Edit: I'd also say that Knack, Minecraft, and Lego Marvel all day one means that ps4 should be a great choice for families at Christmas time.

emad-E-three1825d ago

cut the damn trolling you idiot inFamous were never delayed since it was first announced back in Feb.20 with the PS4 until E3 there were no release date announced and on E3 Shu said it will be released Feb/2014!!!

only DriveClub got pushed back because the game is not ready! and for Watch_Dogs its 3rd party its not Sonys call or fault so cut the crap and SHUT THE FUCK UP!

emad-E-three1825d ago (Edited 1825d ago )

just don't feed the troll people!

etownone1825d ago

Lol....

You guys are missing the point.

Sure the Ps4 is good to he great.... But all the hype for its launch line up is almost laughable.

I mentioned Infamous... Cause that is the best looking Ps4 exclusive game I've seen, yet it couldn't make it to launch day.

And Knack?? Lol... Yes, I've seen the game play.... And the game is obviously for kids. Not only does it look like a current gen game, but it looks like it belongs on Psn.

Read the article kids. The guy has a point.

AliTheSnake11825d ago (Edited 1825d ago )

@etownone
Actually You and the article writer ARE missing the point.
The thing is PS4 will cost the same if you buy it now or a year from now, when all these games are out.
People are exited to get their hands on the system, enjoy the OS features.
There already are enough PS4 games to play.
Killzone by itself with its multiplayer are enough.
I know a lot of people who are getting ps4. Nobody really gave a shit about Driveclub being delayed. For cars fans there is Need for Speed: Rivals which is a launch title. And Yes multi-gen games DO COUNT, since most of them are extremely superior to their older gen version.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, F2P Blacklight: Retribution, Call of Duty: Ghosts, PS+ freebee Contrast, F2P DC Universe Online, FIFA 14, Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition remastered, Minecraft ,Madden NFL 25, NBA 2K14, PSN+ freebee Resogun, F2P Warframe, F2p War Thunder. And a Bunch of other indie games, and F2p games. If you think this is a weak launch then you are mentally weak.(No offense kid)

etownone1825d ago

@Alithesnake1

You have a point... There will be games. Multiplats

But as far as exclusives.... Just Killzone stands out ...
And when compared to Ms Xbox1 exclusive launch games.... Well.... Then you see a big difference in launch games.

Red_Devilz1825d ago

Lol...InFamous delayed? Thanks for the "info"

I'd rather play games at 1080P native 60fps no matter they are late by few months than playing 360 games like Rysr which were cancelled from 360 and moved to XB1, where they still look $hitty and run at 900P 30fps.

rainslacker1825d ago (Edited 1825d ago )

Knacks character design alone, and the huge amount of physics shown just to make up his body and animations is a step above what we ever saw from any current gen game.

I know most people don't care about that, but being a programmer, and insanely interested in physics programming, I was instantly impressed at what they were doing with the character at it's first showing.

The title at it's heart is really just a platformer game, which I enjoy, but discounting the game because the graphics aren't super realistic is not really seeing the whole picture.

Graphics aside, Knack is probably the only game which is going to show what the future will bring from a physics perspective at launch. All those pretty graphics are to be expected in other games, but physics is going to be what next gen is all about, as the new systems are actually capable of realistic, real time physics calculations.

KentBlake1824d ago (Edited 1824d ago )

Problem is people seem to overlook the fact that Sony has tons of first party studios. The Xbox One launch lineup may be bigger on exclusives NOW, but in a year I'm pretty sure MS can't compete in terms of exclusives. Most of their exclusives are timed third party things. Even the mighty Titanfall is almost certain to hit PS4 in the near future. I'm not buying a PS4 just to play for a month or two. I'm buying it to play for like 8 years or so.

And the launch lineup is more than enough for now (I still have a big PS3 and 360 backlog to keep me busy between PS4 releases). AC4 alone is gonna take a lot of my time.

Mikelarry1825d ago

kotaku guess they need hits again

ebreda1825d ago

Really, he's not entitled to not enjoying it that much?
If it was the One, on the other hand... "rushed".

Godmars2901825d ago

Well, it doesn't help that there doesn't seem to be a companion XB1 article. Which then makes it a flamebait article meant to generate hits.

And everyone here fell for it.

TheFutureIsBlue1825d ago

I think they said "There will be an xbone articile up, similiar to this, soon" in the comments on the site.

Godhimself_In_3d1825d ago

Are we really surprised by this and kotaku NO lol.The more I read these pieces online I can't help but feel like most gaming sites seem to be pissed ps4 has what ever advantage it has. I mean if the 360 version of a game has just one more frame or a better texture or a 0.1 faster load time they jump for joy but just the thought of a ps4 game doing it to xbone we get these type of pieces smh im getting both day one both launches or just ok not great and so was every platform launch .
