How to choose between PS4, Xbox One

If you want pure power, the PS4 sports some of the best tech on the market. Though both machines contain custom 8-core AMD processors and 8GB of RAM, the PS4 uses more advanced components. The RAM, for instance, is DDR5 versus DDR3 for the Xbox One. The more advanced RAM, combined with a graphics processor, means that the raw graphics processing power of the Xbox One is only about 71 percent of the PS4.

Nobody denies the ps4 isn't a powerful console. However a consoles power means nothing without games. I'm going with Xbox one for the games & quality of Xbox live. Eventually I want a ps4 but only when it offers some more games.

darthv721727d ago

you will likely get disagrees (as will I) but what you should say is more appealing games (that appeal to you).

No doubt the Ps4 will have appealing games but appeal is varied per individual. So not disagreeing with your choice of what to get first as you do seem to acknowledge the desire to get a Ps4 at some point.

More people should be level headed and see that both will offer similar experiences when it comes to the multiplat games. But it will come down to the specific experiences that each will offer that the other is lacking.

Both have pros and cons and i will be more focused on the Pros which is why i choose to get both. how and in what order are my own choice.

PockyKing1727d ago

The fact that the experiences are so similar is the reason I'm having such a hard time choosing which one I want to purchase first. As a college student though, having TV and everything together in one place on the Xbox One makes it a bit more appealing to me. And I'm very interested in Ryse so i'm leaning more that way than the PS4. Will own both someday though! *Ducks*

I think that it's more than the games announced right now, but for me Sony has won me over by their display of commitment to games in the future. The PS3 still has great games coming out and has had great exclusives for years. Microsoft seems to have all but abandoned the 360 (and has for awhile now). Will Microsoft be offering unique experiences on the XB1? All I see are a ton of games in which you kill things in different ways, and sports games. People may complain about Sony's constant focus on "indies" but you can't deny that all of those games they announced offer something different.

Pogmathoin1727d ago

I will chose X1 first, then decided to get PS4 on launch day too, but it would have been X1 first always. PS no doubt make great consoles and games, but always felt there was much more to do with an Xbox. As someone who likes gadgets, there was no competition. Please do not tell me PS does apps too... I know that, and I get Gold too, so toss that argument. Always felt there was always more to an Xbox. Maria, ever posted an Sony Article?

MetaReapre1727d ago

well with everyone else giving their opinion, I wanna say, I'm getting the ps4. reason being that's what I grew up with and I'm too used to the dual shock controller. however, with this gen I'm hoping sometime I will also get the xb1. just not right away. lol

Ketzicorn1727d ago

Same reason I went with a PS4 at launch. Killzone,KNACK,Resogun and Driveclub(before the delay) looked more fun to me than the X1 exclusives.

schubacca1727d ago (Edited 1727d ago )

This is how it should be. You pick the system because it has the games that YOU like.

I went with X-1 day one simply because I love Forza, Halo, Gears, TitanFall, Crackdown. PS4 does look tasty for the future however.

Ketzicorn1727d ago

@schubacca geez the reply thing sucks on here but anyways yeah I totally agree. Both systems are going to have great games throughout their lifetime I don't understand why people argue so much like your system of choice gets a cookie if it "wins" the console wars ,and I will definitely own an X1 at some point as a lot of their exclusives appeal to me and the only reason I won't pick one up at launch is because to me personally the Kinect doesn't appeal to me so even a reasonable price addition for it isn't personally worth it to me.

claudionmc1727d ago

@schubacca Halo at launch? Gears at launch? Titanfall is a timed exclusive, so you will pay US$100 more only for Forza? that's interesting

ma1asiah1727d ago (Edited 1727d ago )

Reasons I have leaned more towards the X1

Ryse Son of Rome
Forza 5
Dead Rising 3
Killer Instinct
Crimson Dragon
Project Spark
Titanfall

Later on

Fable Legends
Quantum Break
Black Tusk Studio's new game
The next Halo game

Full Twitch integration and streaming
Skype in 1080p
Free dedicated servers for developers to partake if they so choose with every X1 game
No more host advantage and improved match making
Kinect 2.0
Snap feature's
My Xbox experience, games etc follow me everywhere on any X1

90% of my friends list are sticking with Xbox and are upgrading from the X360 to the X1

The PS4 is an awesome console as well and will pick one up when Naughty Dog release a game for it. though it will only be purchased for SONY's exclusive single player experiences.

The X1 will still be my go to console for multiplayer and multiplat titles.

Pogmathoin1727d ago

ma1asiah, good comment, but no doubt lots of disagrees, clearly you hurt a lot of people. Its hard to swallow for these guys to accept that X1 is a great machine too. For sentiments sake, the powa of de cloud!!

ma1asiah1727d ago

@ Ps4beaver,

Thanks bud but hey at the end of the day it is my money and my choice. People are free to disagree and I am fine with that.

I didn't choose based on what is the most popular choice but what is the best fit for me.

Now in New Zealand we wont have a lot of the TV functionality or Kinect 2.0 Voice support at launch but hey that is cool, because at some stage I know MS will work that stuff out.

Raw Power does not always equate to better games, for that matter nor does 1080p @ 60fps.

I loved all the games I played on the X360 and that was less powerful than the PS3, so the fact that the PS4 is more powerful and can play most things at 1080p does not bother me in the slightest.

Everyone to their own.

Buy what you want to buy and to hell with what anyone else thinks. You worked hard for it, you earned it so you should have the right to spend it however you see fit.

Come November and the launch of both consoles I pray every gamer out there enjoys the experience and the games they get for their console of choice.

Some awesome times ahead for sure.

hello121727d ago (Edited 1727d ago )

Even though i think Sony fans are for the most part ill-informed about the PS4 and are clueless to how good the XB1 is.

I still think the PS4 is a fine console and in some aspects is better than the XB1.

But i went with XB1 because overall i think its offering more. I am tired of player hosted matches and Microsoft is providing dedicated servers for free. Next gen should mean new experiences ( player hosting) is same old same old.

creatchee1727d ago

I don't think that Sony fanboys (not fans - there is a difference) overestimate the PS4 as much as they underestimate the Xbox One. I mean, sure, it's a little of both, but those people find much more solace in degrading their "enemy" than enjoying their console of choice. That goes for fanboys of ANYTHING.

In the real world, the PS4 looks fantastic. The Xbox One looks fantastic. Each offer their own take on the next generation and deserve attention. I will eventually (by April) own both, but I decided to go with Xbox One first because it has more of the games that I want initially. However, I can see how some people who are only interested in buying one console for the foreseeable future would choose either one, whether it's for raw power or friends lists or upcoming games or whatever. You have to go with what pleases you and what you think you'll get the most enjoyment out of. That's why we play games, after all.

rkidscd0021727d ago

Sony's new PS4 camera will offer similar functionality -
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATT!!!

GryestOfBluSkies1727d ago

also the price is $60, not $100 as stated in the article

ziggurcat1727d ago

probably not as sophisticated as the new kinect, but it will have similar functionality.

4logpc1727d ago

Ill get both, but im picking up an X1 at launch for Killer Instinct, Forza, and Dead Rising.

Ill pick up a PS4 when Infamous hits.

GodGinrai1727d ago

Haha! thats my plan too! I reckon we will see a special edition. the top half of the console being glossy red and the bottom half a matte black with a little logo..maybe a flaming logo..im just guesing but I can clearly see it in my head. And a red DS4 controller.

X1 day one for forza 5, KI and BF4 with my clan(where not MLG or nothing like that..more like a longstanding freindship that started back on halo 2. We are more like family tbh). For the first time ever we will ALL be able to play on the same team. Its going to be insane! Its probably the same for some of you guys on PS4, with regards to BF4..christmas comes in november for ALL of us...enjoy it ladies and gents!

USMC_POLICE1727d ago

Funny how Xbox hardcore fans could careless how Microsoft tried to fuck them. And how many times was the polygon count on rise dropped?

4logpc1727d ago (Edited 1727d ago )

Yea because Sony has never done anything to upset their fan base....

EVERY company has made mistakes...and dropping, and sometimes upping, polygon counts happens during development of ANY video game.

schubacca1727d ago

It is even funnier how PS4 fanboys seem upset when other individuals make a personal choice and select the X-1....

How dare someone has a different opinion than them....

GryestOfBluSkies1727d ago

be fair. xbox fans do the same thing. than pc fans join in and make fun of all console players. we should all just be happy with our own purchases. ill do what i want with my money, and the rest of you can do what you want with yours

darthv721727d ago

Also, it's called Ryse not Rise. If you are going to berate it, at least get the name right.

Death1727d ago

Microsoft tried to allow gamers to rip all their retail disc based games to the Xbox one's HDD so they could access them anywhere and anytime without having the disc in the drive for verification. Obviously, you did not feel this was a good thing, but I was really looking forward to the feature. I am a little upset that Microsoft f'd me by listening to you instead of focusing on those that are their actual customers.

Darrius Cole1727d ago

That doesn't begin to make sense. Microsoft wasn't trying to give you anything, they were trying to take something. And if you were looking forward to their DRM it's because you didn't know any better.

Yes, because you didn't know any better.

Microsoft didn't "F" you by listening to that guy and guys like him. That guy and guys like him saved you from being ripped off by Microsoft. You shouldn't be mad at him you should be thanking him.

It's like walking down the street one day and seeing a bully trying to swindle your kid brother. You should and would kick his ass because you know and he knows that your kid brother doesn't know any better yet, but he will in time. However, you also know that the both you and the bully do know better right now and the bully is taking advantage. Any Xbox fan who was willing to buy an XB1 even before MS reversed that DRM was like the kid brother here.

There is no way spin A) paying full price for a disc only to have Microsoft control what you can and can not do with your own stuff, as somehow being better than B) paying for a disc and being able to control what you do with it yourself. The only angle from which "A" is better than "B" is if you are Microsoft. If you think "A" is better for the purchaser than "B" is you simply don't know any better, pure and simple.

Besides, if Microsoft wants to allow you to access your games, your +25GB sized games, over the internet, they still can. All they have to do is allow you the same rights with games you digitally download.

Ohhh, that's right, in order to do that they would have to brick your console whenever it's not on the internet. You were looking forward to that, right....having your console lock you out whenever it wasn't on the internet, even though the console wasn't broken.

I understand we actually enjoy coming to the fanboy wars and fighting for our chosen side. But what Microsoft tried to pull was bigger than than. They tried to use their fans loyalty against them and take their money from them in return for products that they never would own.

One day years from now you will look back at it and thank people USMC_Police for raising holy hell and protecting you from Microsoft.

PinkFunk1727d ago

@Darrius Cole.

Clap... Clap... Clap.. Clap.. Clap. Clap. Clap, Clap, Clap! Clap! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!! CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP!!!!

...Well said.

Death1727d ago

That is where you and I disagree. You are using "what if" scenarios to prove your point. My consoles are all connected 24/7. If my net connections went down for more than a day, I could transfer the file over my cell. It was not a big deal. As for Microsoft telling me what I can and can't do with my games, the only thing I couldn't do is give them away. I don't see that as a problem since it isn't something I am in the habit of doing. I could still trade them at Gamestop, EB etc. if I wanted.

I can still have the same features with my digital library? Thanks. Now instead of having a physical copy that is ripped to the HDD that I could trade in when I was done with it if I liked, I can instead have a downloaded copy that I can't do anything with thanks to the crusaders that helped me. Not a very good trade off.

In short "B" was a better option for me since I still retained a tradeable physical copy that could have been ripped to my HDD and accessed like a digital copy. Actually using my games to me is more important than the ability to give them away or sell them on craigslist and ebay. People like you took that freedom away by "saving" me from Microsoft. Forgive me for not being grateful.
