Killzone: Shadow Fall Has No Logo Screens or Warnings on Start-Up, Loads Straight to Main Menu

One aspect of video games synonymous with this generation is the plethora of screens that some games show before you even get to the main menu. There are developer and publisher logos, epilepsy and dolby screens, some of which can cumulatively top out at close to a minute or two before the gamer is even at the title’s main menu. This was something the developers at Guerrilla Games wanted to change in their upcoming first-person shooter, Killzone: Shadow Fall. (Killzone: Shadow Fall, PS4)

That's great, hopefully more games will start doing it. I wish they did the same with those safety warnings, there should be a checkmark to disable it

i Still like to see it but if they do once it like the first time you turn on the game i wouldn't mind.

HapPy dance
NO mOre splash screens
sibbor  +   761d ago
Agreed. All logotypes, disclaimers etc. should be shown the very first time the game is started. After that it should be straight to the game main menu. Had this thought for a long time.

Really glad that GG could manage this on their own.

FIFA 13 and FIFA 14 are the worst,
You have to press X to pick your language,
Then you have to press Start to go to the EA logo,
Press X to cancel that
On the FIFA logo screen you have to press Start again, it then connects to the internet.
Then X again on the autosave screen
After that you have to pick your presets which takes another 3 presses of the X button…………

Hopefully you get my drift, it is a total pain in the buttocks just to have a quick game with your mates.

This on top of not having any load times after the first 30 seconds is just amazing.
Instant gaming FTW!

Bringing it back to the old days where you turned on a game, pressed a button, and you were in in under 10 seconds. Love it!
Misaka_x_Touma  +   761d ago
that never happened on PlayStation maybe the other system.
sinjonezp  +   761d ago
He is talking about n64 SNES genesis days where games come right on as soon as you pop a cart in.

They should play only the first time you play the game, then you should be able to turn it off, some are really long
TransientDreamer  +   761d ago
Very good idea.
dredgewalker  +   761d ago
Agreed, sometimes I just really want to get to that start screen immediately when I load up a game.
rainslacker  +   761d ago
Would love for EA to do this. They plaster so many splash screens for themselves, the developer, the engine, the physics engine, the coffee shop where the director gets his morning cup o' joe, and every possible partner they had making the game it is really annoying every time you start the game....particularly in ME3 where it would randomly freeze on me and I'd have to restart.

Don't see it happening with them though...their ego wouldn't allow it.

This should be standard, we don't need warnings for every game. We don't need the move instructions every time I start a game just because it supports the move controller. Make a section in the options for Warnings and if people need to read them they can.
TransientDreamer  +   761d ago
Completely agreed. Or find a way to integrate them into the tutorial or opening cinematic. Just don't make them into a speed bump, or a chore to be clicked through.
rainslacker  +   761d ago
You can thank the people that were silly enough to throw their controllers at the TV or knock over a lamp while playing a move/wii game for those couple of screens.

Maybe make it so they don't show up if you don't have the camera on, and no Move controller assigned. Otherwise you know some dumb ass will sue them because they didn't actually have a disclaimer.

Yeah, I hope every game is like this. It's so ridiculous the screens we have to put up with. I can understand one screen for about 10 seconds that has everything on it, Dolby Digital, speed tree, and all of the other tools they use to develop their game with. But to have screen after screen after screen after screen for a minute or two is irritating.

Great job, Guerilla!
Godhimself_In_3d  +   761d ago
Yes i hated that ps move screen the most smh
Soldierone  +   761d ago
Crossing my fingers this spreads! It's almost as annoying as legit copies of movies having un-skippable screens of "if you steal this, you will be fined!!!!!!!!!!"
RiPPn  +   761d ago
Should really only be on the first load, then once it creates a save file it knows to bypass them thereafter. But never having them is even better.
Grlpants  +   761d ago
Wouldn't it be neat to pop in a game for the first time and instantly be thrown into the story? That would be neat.
torchic  +   761d ago
yeah it would be awesome! inFamous 2 had something like that

you just popped in the disk then after a few seconds of loading there you were, in New Marais :) always liked that.

inFamous 2 also had the best main menu of this generation (the very first time you popped it in) so I liked it either way

did Killzone invaded N4G today?
sigfredod  +   761d ago
Yeah either all the major sites agreed to release their previews today or guerilla give the green light today, killzowned!
tigertron  +   761d ago
Amazing, hopefully more developers will follow suit.

Now if only they did this for Blu-ray movies/DVDs.
sandman224  +   761d ago
Yes. It's about time the got rid of that junk. I hope all games do that as a standard. Just put the warnings on the cases of the games. And if it's a downloaded game just show the warnings once and have an option display that says you agree for just that first time you boot up the game. Then never show it again.

Best news I have heard on next-gen games!!!!

I hate waiting around, it mentally prevents me from turning on my system at a moments notice.

Didn't GG patch into Killzone 2 that you could not skip through the opening screens until their logo was shown?

You could can press X and hear a clicking sound but will not allow you to skip until Visaris speech begins?
