Rockstar Ruining GTA Online "One Patch At A Time"

Between "Bad Sports" and cap on freemode cash losses Rockstar is trying to make a game about killing and stealing safe for crybabies.

for every normal user who have a serious issue with the game , there is a million crying babies who have no idea how to use the atm / internet to deposit their pocket money into the bank.

it's 2013 for god sake, why does R*games not have an official forum . Their newswire is filled with spammers -_-

TriangleOffense1850d ago

I just started playing and only know how to deposit money because of a roosterteeth let's play. But I like the game so far online at least. Most time I've spent online since MAG

SuperBlur1850d ago (Edited 1850d ago )

trust me , you would have found a way to deposit money in your bank , the game keeps remind you of doing so.

glad you enjoying it , i mostly play NHL nowadays , i have 2 circle of friends , the one from my childhood who own a ps3 and only play sports and fps games.

The 2nd circle of friends i made from work and back in high school days , not a single of them own a ps3 , now they've all converted to ps4 minus 1 . Thus why i don't really have fun in GTA , i managed to befriend a few online players and join their crew but they are never on when i am.

okay over sharing over ahaha

AliTheSnake11850d ago (Edited 1850d ago )

This game is very fun with Friends.
Solo, it sucks big time. Half the time you spend on Loadings. Passive mode is stupid, you pay $100 but you still can get shot for no reason when you are inside a car. You die once, and you loose around $1000.You steal a car, Los Santos Police station is on your ass.
Free Roam sucks big time. I miss GTA 4 friendly free roam. where you steal any car/ plane and just crash into players, and have fun and do crazy shit. They should bring that as a mode.
Oh yeah and PLEASE Rockstar, ADD a MUTE ALL button, or have it like red dead, where you only hear people near you. Everytime I join a lobby, there's a bunch of people with shitty $4 phone headsets talking with music playing and a dog barking in the background.

tsivik1850d ago

@AliTheSnake1

Press select/back button to bring up the in-game menu and change the chat option to 'no one'.

Lord_Sloth1850d ago

I play in secluded rooms with just my friends most of the time but I've never lost much money for dying even when not in private rooms. Is there any reason to deposit at all?

DarkBlood1850d ago

the reason to deposit is because of dying, you lose amounts and they could just go after you again it adds up.

Blacktric1850d ago (Edited 1850d ago )

The only reason to deposit is to prevent other players from stealing your cash when they send a mugger (unlocked at rank 50 and can be used by giving Lamar a call). You do not drop your money when you die. And depositing your cash does not prevent you paying hospital bills. If you don't have any cash on you, they charge your bank account directly.

rdgneoz31850d ago

The $500 was mainly about med bills. People were losing 2k a death in freemode (check your bank log and it'll show 2k for medical bills)... And if you're into causing mayhem in the lobby, 2k a death can add up pretty fast. Seeing as making money has been nerfed a bit, it is a welcome change. Also, in the beginning you were losing money each death in other modes besides freemode...

The losing money to other players part is still there if you're holding more than 5k at once. Though it's not too hard to deposit cash or to hope over to single player and then back so that you're inside your apartment and can do it safely.

Here's a quote from a support page:
"Thanks to feedback from our community, we've reduced the maximum penalty on death from $2000 to $500. We hope this change will help you save up more money and have more fun killing each other in GTA Online!"

The one thing I do hope the change is the bad sport for blowing up cars. Too many times have people tried to chase me down or run me over, only to get c4 strapped to their car and sending them flying through the air.

3-4-51850d ago

Had my fun...already traded it in though. It just lost it's appeal really fast. It's still a really good game.

Skizelli1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

The Good/Bad Sport system is deeply flawed. I've blown up a player's car (they tried messing with me first), receiving the Bad Sport warning, only to enter another Freemode shortly thereafter and got presented with a $1000 reward for good behavior. It definitely needs more tweaking, but I'm glad it's there. If you want to troll people, you should be thrown with others who do the same thing. The trolls who are crying about this just don't want to be challenged by other trolls. They prey on the weak. 99% of the players I've killed have shot me first. I don't mind the occasional player with nothing better to do as long as I can defend myself, but I can't stand it when someone just spawn camps the hell out of you with a Rhino. The respawns are HORRIBLE. Seeing as I keep my money banked, I can't withdrawal $500 fast enough in order to set myself to passive mode before being gunned down again. I don't understand why this is fun for some people. The Rhino needs a serious nerf. Either that, or spawn people further away from it so they have a chance in hell.

T21849d ago

Ya the bad sport system is beyond stupid ... This guy tried to run me over 3 times before I killed him then blew up his car .... First the game called me a bad sport , then it charged me 9000 for the car, then the dude flipped out and started ganging up on me with 3 friends ... Which I didnt mind btw I hid in a bar and set explosive traps lol
But seriously why does the game penalize you ? You cant steal an owned vehicle yet even if your spawned location is property you are continually spawned right near the players killing you ... And the property is a deathtrap too they wait at your door, at least have two entrances

Killjoy30001850d ago

I agree with nearly EVERY point made in this article. I have flat-out STOPPED playing since becoming a bad sport. There's no way I should be penalized for Owning 50 people in a row with the jet I EARNED. Simply ridiculous. 'Grand Theft' Auto - my ass.

BlackTar1871850d ago

well i agree but sayign you owned anyone in a super over powered jet is going a little bit extreme. Like me being a lvl 50 in Asherons call and standing at the newbie entrance and claiming im owning them. Im not owning them.

I consider owning a level playing field where you demolish the oppenant not a super one sided playign field where you take advantage of the other peoples low levels cuz you spent 3000x before anyone else could.

Killjoy30001850d ago (Edited 1850d ago )

Black Tar, I stole the jet from the military base, where everybody else who was the same level as me if not higher could attain it just as easily. Since I managed to obtain it and control the skies for hours, keeping swarms of player from getting in equally powered buzzards with lock-on systems, I would say that I definitely owned them. I was rigorously being singled out by the entire lobby with air support, so trust me, it was no one-sided battle.

I didn't buy my way out of anything. Besides, it's VERY hard to get a good angle on anybody on the ground with the combination of high speed of the plane and urban environments, which are inhabited the most. Then there's the risk of a tiny light pole completely ruining your entire plan. So I wouldn't say I was "overpowered," by the slightest, especially for a game like GTA where general fun and over-the-top power should be encouraged.

This isn't an MLG title we're discussing here. This is GRAND THEFT AUTO - the foundation of doing whatever. The Hell. You. Want. No Ifs, ands or buts.

Skizelli1849d ago

That's not everyone's idea of fun though. Yeah, it's great being able to do anything you want, but there should be consequences. What amazes me is that with so many things to do for fun, people choose to kill others in the most unoriginal of ways. There's nothing spectacular about mowing people down in a Lazer, Rhino or Buzzard.

My friends and I decided to mess around with some people by stockpiling ourselves, hopping on the train, putting $9000 bounties on each other and waiting for anyone to come challenge us. To me, that's fun. Not killing people who can't defend themselves.

-EvoAnubis-1850d ago

What's the problem? If you're a person that just wants to go around killing other players and destroying their shit, now you get to play with a bunch of other people who like to go around killing other players and destroying their shit. Unless the issue is that you don't like having a level playing field, I'm not seeing the problem.

Audiggity1850d ago

Hey evo. The issue comes from blowing up their cars. I took out 3 level 50 guys last night. I am level 21. They chased me after collecting their bounties. I set c4 as any intelligent player would.

Detonating this took out all their personal cars. Cost me thirty grand to cover the insurance and threatened to make me a bad sport.

What was I supposed to do? Let them kill me? Screw that.

-EvoAnubis-1850d ago

@Audiggity: Personally I would have tricked them into entering a choke point in an alley or something, taken out my MG, and mowed 'em all down. Actually that's exactly what I did in a similar situation.

KYU21301850d ago

Evo I would have done that as well. Hell last night i was in a full room and i was walking to my car and got mowed down in a drive by. I hunted the guy down and got him back. Guess what they did to me. The people in the room booted me!!!!! total crap.

Today i snagged a chopper from the the docks and just wanted to check out Los Santos at night from up high. I got blown out of the sky.

No i couldn't go into passive mode their was a bounty on my head for jacking a car. so i can understand some of the need to keep it a bit on the civil side. But i can also understand the desire to go nuts and take someone out.

Killjoy30001849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

Skizelli

Well, our definitions of fun differ, I suppose. I love doing things as you explained as well, but I also really enjoy flying in games. They weren't defenseless. They had all the cover in the world on their side, as well as means of escape, passive mode, or the option to go do a mission.

There's nothing you can tell me to convince me that a FREEmode in GTA should have such harsh restrictions. Especially when any part of the world can be accessed right from your cell phone. If you have nothing better to do in the game world than aimlessly drive around for no apparent reason, THEN YOU ARE A TARGET OF MINE. What am supposed to do? Leisurely fly around and site see in a jet with cannons and lock-on missiles?

I'll pass.

T21849d ago

I agree as long as there are lock on missiles to take a jet down ...
Also yes the balance sux , you can do whatever you want except :
Destroy personal property , steal others cars , kill people (you can be booted) ,
Am I missing anything? Seriously I thought gta would be hard ass , instead its full of cryhards

thricetold1849d ago

You like preying on the weak from a position of power. You aren't looking for a challenge, you're looking for easy kills to pacify your mental needs.

"but I also really enjoy flying in games so what am supposed to do? Leisurely fly around and site see in a jet with cannons and lock-on missiles?"

Guess you could always take part in the many jet deathmatches that sets everyone on even footing, but that's not what you want now is it?

Killjoy30001849d ago

No Thrice, that's not how I WANT it in FREE mode of GRAND THEFT AUTO an OPEN WORLD GAME.

What a stupid question.

thricetold1848d ago

"No Thrice, that's not how I WANT it in FREE mode of GRAND THEFT AUTO an OPEN WORLD GAME."

I know EXACTLY what you want. You want to feel like a big man. You can't do it with guns so you need a jet. Or a tank, whichever is easiest for you?

"hey, what's that guy doing driving around by himself" NOT in GTA!"

Is that what you think all GTA is? I think it is. I think millions think like this and you should all be stuck together, simple.

Killjoy30001848d ago (Edited 1848d ago )

Thrice, are you ready for me to body bag your entire comment?

You are making the natural assumption that I do this in every single server I'm in. I'm speaking on one particular event in which I destroyed whiny little cry-hards such as yourself. Let me ask you a question. Do you feel like a big man pouting atop your high horse about how my skills completely overriding yours, effectively banishing you to the spawn screen for the majority of any given session? You can't exact revenge on superior player in-game, so you need to come here on N4G and cry to me about how much you hate getting demolished in GTA? Because that's what it sounds like to me, a pitiful little troll singling out his rage on me.

Or here's another question. How does it feel using your last third measly and not being able to form any type of response, likely resorting to a petty inbox message? You clearly have 3 bubbles because the rest of the N4G community couldn't care less to hear your dribble. Don't address me in any other thread. In fact, avoid my posts altogether, and get the f*ck out of here.

I'm just speculating here, but that rant^^^^^^^^
sounds like it's coming from someone with pretty low self esteem (and I mean REAL WORLD self esteem), who only finds personal satisfaction by pretneding to be as imperial and heroic and skilled in a videogame, because they don't possess those qualities in real life. Good luck, buddy. Hope you don't get too many wedgies and swirlies from the football team tomorrow.

Fact of the matter is, YOU were the one that posted on here first talking about how you kept "owning everybody" in a fighter jet, and when a few people reminded you that it's kind of a douchey way of playing, you got more defensive and claimed it wasn;t your fault because your just so good at the game, and it's a game based around commiting crimes.

Even in real life, as in a game like GTA, there is a generally understood 'common decency" if you will. While it is completely irrational for any GTA player to become upset because someone kills them in freemode for no reason(after all it IS GTA) but players who continually target other players, are just trolling assholes and that is a FACT. You all are probably just a bunch of Casuals who think that's what GTA is all about anyway. Wouldnt expect casuals to know or care much about team based mission gameplay.. which is REALLY where GTA shines...

DarkBlood1850d ago

I kind of stopped playing gtaonline, it was awesome at first but the hype kind of faded for me.

BlackTar1871850d ago

They need more missions.

More 6-8 player missions. I should be able to select the jobs that come via phone in a menu(Unless i can and im dumb)

-EvoAnubis-1850d ago

Yes, much more missions. At least a few hundred. Co-op missions with my friends is all I like doing in this game.

paul-p19881849d ago

@BlackTar that option is apparently being added to the next update, so we can play Simeon/Lamar etc missions with friends easier, and pick them after playing after missions too.

hobohunterz1849d ago

There are 700 missions....

plaZeHD1849d ago

Same thing happened to me. I don't know why.

KwietStorm1850d ago

I was worried at first about GTA coming out so close to PS4, but I don't feel the draw like I did initially anymore. The losing money when you die isn't even a huge deal. It's the way R* has handled a lot of other things that got me scratching my head. It's Grand Theft Auto, but you get a bad sport for killing people or blowing up their replaceable cars. They do everything possible to lessen the amount of money you can make in missions, so they can sell their microtransactions later. The aiming system feels like I'm moving my stick through mud. I play the game with my friends, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to the heists, but once Batman comes out Friday, I'll ride that out and be ready to move on to next generation.

BlackTar1871850d ago

Batman hell yes and then Xcom for me.

Ill get my PS4 with BF4 and then my Xbone with DR3 and proabbly not play either next gen till i beat both Batman and xcom .

Pintheshadows1850d ago

Origins is really good. I managed to get a copy this morning and if you are expecting more of the same and that isn't an issue for you then you will love it.

mhunterjr1850d ago (Edited 1850d ago )

I'm still having a great time with the game. My only gripe is the bad sport thing. I don't find it terribly bothersome because I don't go around blowing up cars, but in a game about random mischief, such rules seem out of place.

I think that instead of bad sports lables, griefers should gain infamy. Anytime you killsome one in freemode, your infamy goes up. Kill multiple people in rapid succession it multiplies. Blow up personal cars in multiplies even faster. The higher your infamy, the more RP players get for taking you out. The only way to lose infamy is to lay low. The most annoying players will essentially have a perpetual bounty on their heads (and large medical bills). But it would never make a fun-less situation for anyone.

Audiggity1850d ago

Dude. That is the perfect solution. Seriously.

Makes total sense. Bubble vote up.

KYU21301850d ago

you should figure out how to give that suggestion to R* it would be way better.

iceman061850d ago

That really is a great idea. It would basically force those players to either be hunted down...or be on the run. Either case, leaving me alone. I understand the draw of chaos and the allure of doing it in a GTA online game. However, there is a point where it just becomes silly. I killed a guy, that was pretty much stalking me, more than 20 times (believe that the other 2 members of my clan had at least 10 a piece) and he just kept coming. I finally just went to my crappy apartment and watched him get killed by the rest of the lobby. I wish I could have just switched lobbies, but there were issues that night and I didn't want to leave the rest of the crew.

Skizelli1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

That's essentially how it was in RDR. It made sense in that environment, but I don't think it really suits GTA, nor would it discourage people from going on killing sprees. The problem with GTAO is that it lacks the ability to police itself using its own built-in law enforcement.

My suggestions:

1) If you kill a player, it should be an automatic 2-star wanted level. Additional player kills should increase your wanted level a lot sooner.

2) If you destroy a player's car when they're not in it, you should definitely have to pay the bill. However, if you destroy their car, killing them in the process, it should also include an automatic 3-star wanted level.

3) Using Rhinos, Lazers and Buzzards should bring a lot more heat on the player. I've been killed so many times by Rhino campers, and they're hardly ever contested by authorities. Which leads me to #4.

4) Include NPC tanks if a player manages to get a 5-star wanted level. Why they nerfed 5 stars ever since GTA4 is beyond me.

5) Don't punish Bad Sports. Simply pairing them with other hoodlums will suffice. Drop the dunce hats and penalty clock and base their reputation on their actions over an undetermined period of time.

6) Last but not least, tweak the AI. I feel like it took a major step back in this game. NPC drivers/pilots are incredibly dumb. It seems cop cars find head-on collisions more effective than pit maneuvers. I can't even recall a time in this game when a pit maneuver was attempted on me. I just get slammed in the rear and spin out now.

mhunterjr1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

I see no need to 'discourage' people from killing sprees. The killing spree has always been the staple of the franchise.

What they need to do is steepen the consequences of killing sprees in a way that doesn't affect anyone's ability to have fun. In fact, it should be a game within itself.

My solution would allow anyone who wants to tap into their inner serial killer to do so. But if they do, they will be the biggest target on the map. It will be very hard to go on killing sprees, when the other 15 people in your lobby are hunting you down. And you wouldn't lose your infamy overtime, so you'll be constantly hounded by other players. The hunter would become the hunted. And he would find it hard to fund killing sprees if he keeps paying medical bills and using ammo to defend himself.

It would also make things better for the victims. Yeah it might suck to be killed when you aren't on the mood, but atleast you would have an opportunity to gain tons of RP from it. At the very least, the troll would have to leave you alone as he runs away from other players.

What you are saying about the wanted level, is no different from what I say about the infamy level, exept my way encourages interaction between players instead of NPCs (the whole point of having an online game), and mine persists long after the trolling player dies.

Skizelli1849d ago

The law enforcement in this game is a lot more lenient on the player than in past games. I think we both agree that in a persistent online world there should be consequences. There's people who disagree, spouting that GTA is about chaos, but there should be equal measures of order to that chaos to keep things balanced. I see what you're saying. Honestly, I wouldn't mind your idea in conjunction with mine. It would be something else for the player to do at least.
