Jenova Chen, founder of thatgamecompany, spoke at the Gaming Insiders Summit in San Francisco yesterday about how emotions can affect gamers, and how he seeks to create “new emotions” to help people find a sense of peace.
That what makes em fun! Games come in many flavors. Thatgamecompany's is just more relaxing.
I just recently played Journey and it's such a fantastic game. This is coming from a guy who loves military shooters and has over 100 hours on BF3. The music is SO GOOD! The graphics are awesome as well, I just love the art style. Also, the other guy I was playing with had to leave mid way through the game and it crushed my heart lol! I felt so sad that he left me and I felt so alone in the desert. This game is an incredible experience and I would recommend it to anyone.
I have to wholeheartedly agree here. Most of the games I play now, have many parts to it which feel like chores. I ask myself why am I willfully for no real benefit putting myself through this frustration and long set of tasks which are a burden? This is not the purpose of gaming.. Journey on the other hand had a very chill flow to it where you just wander and soak in the story and game without any sense of urgency. On the flipside though, frustration and stressful long winded tasks in games when completed give a sense of accomplishment and sometimes, rewards with scenes or gameplay elements which are refreshing from the burdens before. But as I said earlier, these are not tangible benefits.
Lol. Someone needs a copy of ninja gaiden or ghosts and goblins. Games have become FAR less stressful.
lol exactly what i was gonna say. At least we can finish them now with our hair in tact.
Unless naturally balding.. Damnit
I almost killed myself over Ninja gaiden 2
The horror of that game...
I like chill games, but there's definitely a place for more stessful and challenging experiences. My top two games of this generation, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, aren't exactly relaxing but I loved Journey, Flower, and even Flow also
I agreed. It is best of both world.
I agree also. I used to play games to relax. Now after some games I feel like I have PTS!
People have their own opinion, but if think games being stressful creates the fun and feeling of achievement. If halo or Killzone was easy, who would feel any achievement if you never lost?
Sometimes I like to just sit back and relax, other times I want to wreck everything I see. Glad we have tha options for both.
Games today are far too easy and no challenge at all. That's a far cry from stressful. Stressful is trying to get past a level you've been stuck on, and then running out of lives and having to start over. Gaming in 1987 was stressful.
Looks like someone plays easy-mode.
Beating a challenging game is far more rewarding then beating something that is easy.
Has this guy played the original legend of zelda compared to something like skyward sword?
Trying to please a woman is stressful. I play games to release stress.
I can see some of the stress they mean, and I can definitely see how their games are a radical departure from that. I wouldn't say all games are stressful, but many of them do induce a good deal of stress.
When I was younger I would keep playing until I beat a game these days if I get remotely frustrated I just play something else and move on.
