Hardcore Gamer: Wii U isn’t dead yet, but Nintendo needs to make a strong marketing push to convince shoppers that a Wii U is a viable alternative to either next-gen console when both become in short supply.
There will be at least at least 6 Million Wii U's by the end of December 2013.
4.5 - 5 million. 1.5 million in two months for a console with little support is out of the question. At best I estimate 4 mil by the start of the new year
The 3ds is selling around 1.5 million a month. The Wii sold 3 million in a month in 2009 after everyone knew it wasnt a good console. I am saying 6M min. and 9M max.
And the Wii u is nowhere near the Wii's level of hype and relevancy. You can also take a look at the upcoming holiday games (Which is just Mario) and competitors (PS4, One) in order to quickly deduce that the Wii u is not going to sell well. It barely just got out of a trend of extremely low console sales. It needs way more games and 3rd party support (non-existent, really) if it wants to reach 3 mil in a month like the Wii. Your estimates are way too generous and short-sighted.
You must have a problem with math cause that 6-9 mil is WAAAAAYYYYYYYY off....It still has little to no support and wont have any till the end of 2014....You Nintendo cult members need to realize that most consumers don't give a rats ass whats coming out 6 months to 1 year plus from now. It has little to no chance of getting near 6 million by the end of December....The ONLY games coming out this year are DK and Mario World....It has no chance against the PS4 and One80
"You Nintendo cult members need to realize that most consumers don't give a rats ass whats coming out 6 months to 1 year plus from now. " Is that why so many people pre-ordered a new console with barely a library?
Actually, DK was delayed to 2014. 3D World is gonna push some units though for sure. For me, I'm getting Sonic.
I do agree, Nintendo is doing very little main stream marketing. They really need to make a hard push. Only the hardcore like myself even watch those weird Nintendo Directs.
Kinda hard to sell the WiiU when Nintendo only advertises to its current owners lol. Nintendo is lost in space not in the woods
I got one last week its the best!! Cant wait for Mario 3d world and mario kart 8
I wish more gamers were like you. How long have you been gaming?
I love the stealth disagrees: "NO, NO, NO! You cannot enjoy a Nintendo console, it doesn't have enough poop-flavored shooters and generic Hollywood blockbuster wannabe games. Just no, you do not enjoy this console one bit!" - Fanboy logic
It doesn't have enough games period nitwit....Pikmen is an extremely niche title...Wonderful 101 tanked and everything else is ports...It's not going to sell millions based on only a DK and a Mario game coming out...Especially not with the PS4 and One80....Both at the very least play blu rays/DVDs which actually boost a consumer's interest they could care less about whats coming out in late 2014 early 2015
@deadpoolio is that the only 2 wii u games you know??? sure lets ignore mario bros. U that sold to about 80% of wii u owners, and lets ignore WindWaker that caused a 200% increase, and lets also ignore the fact that somebody just now getting a wii u can choose from such games as: Monster hunter 3 ultimate, scribblenauts unlimited, scribblenauts DC, Super Luigi U, pokemon rumble U, lego city undercover, Sonic lost worlds (love him or hate him he has lots of fans), zombiu, pikmin 3, wind waker hd, mario 3d world, wii fit u, wii party u, wii sports club, mario and sonic sochi, and multiplats like Assassin's creed blackflag, batman arkham origins, rayman legends, darksiders 2, lego marvel, skylanders, and Disney infinity, and even Call of Duty (which i hate but know it sells) there is a pretty nice sized library for those just jumping into the Wii U. I see the Wii U doing big numbers this holiday season
I haven't seen any marketing from Nintendo except for the 3DS. I was at a friend's baby shower a while back and one of the guys still thought the Wii U was just an add on for the Wii. There in a tough spot to say the least.
They need to do an all new marketing stance and rename this thing. My wife doesn't play video games and she has told me: 1)Wii-U was a stupid name 2)Xbox One was a stupid name, but not as stupid as wii-u This coming from a non gamer, except for kinect and android games.
November should be an interesting month for them as it would really put their console to the test. They reduced the price of their 1 year old console and are the only ones who will be offering free online play lets see how will it stacks against the other two. On the software side their lineup of games for the rest of the year doesn't look too impressive. Once again they have to rely on Mario I wish they had more diversity when it comes to their games. I wish them the best of luck. ;)
Even if they flop this holiday season 2014 is where Nintendo will shine. Really, the Big N has some amazing titles lined up through the entirety of 2014.
i think they'll be lucky to get to the 5 mil mark
If alot of you hate Nintendo why do you always persist on commenting (trolling) on things about Nintendo. So what this must mean is that you are complete troll on Nintendo. I'm not defending Nintendo or ps or ms but what the hell did you all do to gaming because of you i constantly regret having a wii u. You all destroyed all the enjoyment i had in gaming. I wish I could say graphics weren't the pinnacle of gaming but if i do you all will f**king troll on me.
I cant speak for everybody........but here is my take. Bought the console Day1 with mario bro's, ZombieU and Blops 2. Then nothing came out of any relevance until MH3 which I already owned for the Wii! Bought Lego City Undercover and NFS both which are fantastic. The issue is Nintendo did nothing to assure a successful launch, No Tomb Raider,Farcry 3, Hitman, Bioshock Infinite......the Virtua Console is a joke ! Nintendo was fully aware the Wii was dying in 2010 or before, they should have been working on games for the WiiU launch instead of patting themselves on the back.
