Indie Developers Speak Out on PS4 Development

Tibitoski said “I think what Sony is looking to do is have a large library of games that come from varying walks of life. They want to bring variety to their platforms so that any audience could find something to love about it. I also think it was a smart move on their part with it being a new console.” (Indie, PS4, Sony)

I love indie games they do the things that the big publishers are affraid to do or think will fail.

Some of the best games i played so far this year have been indies like Guacamelee,Hotline Miami and Cube World to name a few.

Already cant wait for Octodad,Assault Android Cactus,Transistor,Hotline Miami 2,Shovelknight,Hyper light drifter and Resogun.

Sony's open arms approach to indies is great and refreshing for console gaming. PS4 is looking like it'll have a diverse library of AAA titles and indies. November 15th can;t come any sooner.

Tibitoski said - ""They treat their devs really well and if we ever have any problems, I can just text our account manager""

""To our surprise, it only took about four weeks of part-time work from one of our programmers, Kevin Geisler, to get the game running on PS4.”""

""Simply put, it’s the smartest development environment that we’ve ever seen,”"" - Lanning said

"""“This is a system that’s going to allow innovation to happen faster and cheaper,"""

pretty awesome that all those developers are pretty much saying the same thing about ps4
Add this to the list of Developers who are saying the same thing about ps4
sony really did every thing right with ps4 hardware
the build the most powerful console and the much easier to develop for
i really hard and impossible to find a single developer saying they any thing bad about ps4

Game over!

Sony have opened the flood gates and all these tons of titles will create a very healthy and full of variety library of games.

The next big Indies could become the next "naughty dog " in future generations.

Insert coin!

@ Garos

if Sony open the flood gates of variety then we should see more variety than first person shooters,multi-online player games then. if SONY going BIG then everyone should be happy, from hardcore to casual gamers.

not everyone like military, zombie, open world games.

my bag is RPG'S,PLATFORMERS,RACING, SIDE SCROLLING GAMES PS4 need more those type of games as well.

Most interesting part.

“We didn’t witness much support for our games on the 360 digital platform. In fact, we got shut out, and nothing on that front appears to be changing,” Lanning reflected. “Clearly, the Xbox 360 turned out to be a great platform for some indies, but for others the policies and practices created significant incompatibilities that amounted to total shut out.”

I think having a wide range of game genres was pretty much Sonys PS3 policy. OK, many weren't big sellers but at least the library was/is diverse.

i can tell this will be a bright generation for sony. theyve changed alot since ps3 launch. they learned the hard way thats for sure but at least theyve learned. the indie love is icing on a very great cake.

It's going to be great being a PS4 owner :)

Definitely! Glad I have a lot of free time. More gaming ;)

Im hoping we see PS4 upgrades of some Ipad games. The iPad has a slew of indie flight combat games that are awesome, that would make incredible PS4 titles. Not to mention, Gamelofts entire library.

I'm just not understanding the pure hatred of indie games. People seem to think the indie mean 2d graphics. Flow, Flower, Journey were all indie games. How many developers had to work by themselves or with a few other people in the early days of gaming? How many of these developers went on the form or be a part of AAA studios? Indie game support is a means to an end. Sony is just continuing to build up the trust of developers. When an opportunity for them to make that big game they always envisioned but couldn't make comes, they remember who trusted them. The more indies you have the higher chance you get a gem.

The best thing about Indies is that you always get something you haven't really experienced before, sure some of them have that old school feel, but games like Flower, Journey, to the moon or Braid, they all have some amazing art direction and offer something different than the norm. To pass them off as rubbish is extremely ignorant and an awful over-site from some brain dead people that call themselves 'gamers'

ok lets me honest here... Everyone should have their voice and be catered to. But i could really give a ish about loading my ps4 and x1 with a bunch of crappy indie games.

Give me the big budget GTA6, Division, Titanfall, Uncharted, Socom 6, Metal Gear or whatever blockbuster game. U can keep the japenese rpg or 2d sidescrolling alien crap. Im not buying 2 systems to play this lmfao.
strickers  +   621d ago
Problem is, you're a moron. Games are games. If it matters where they come from, how "big" they are , what they cost, or if they ALL have bleeding edge graphics, please go away. You are clearly the sort of vanilla idiot that benefits no one in gaming.

I find indie games like

Jurney,
Hawken http://youtu.be/udEAEARD-Fo
WarFrame http://youtu.be/5oLnBiBmo48
WarThunder http://www.youtube.com/watc...

More fun than most big budget"AAA" games....

I don't understand you? You get those games, except unlike before you get a bunch of smaller games in between.
You don't lose anything, I think people believe sony is putting money that could be spent on AAA on indies instead, this just not true.
Mr_Writer85  +   621d ago
"Sony’s outward projection is that they are less concerned about ‘locking you up’ and more focused on what helps you to build a better business for yourself, and what will enable you to build the best games possible with your limited resources,” Lanning argued. “That’s a big change for any console manufacturer, and it makes a tremendous difference toward the positive possibility. They are making the process feel that it is less about them, and more about you".

And that is one way to get exclusives whilst paying fuck all. Make the experience hassle free and make the indie feel loved and eventually they will make games on you platform exclusives simply because it will be too much hassle NOT.

Very smart move and good one for the industry.
