How Long Will The PlayStation 4 Last?

Some believe this will be the last generation of dedicated game consoles. That being the case, will the PS4 last longer than 10 years? 15 years, maybe? (PS4)

Haha.... where do people continue to find these articles.

I know PS4 will be in my livingroom for more than a decade and I know it will be supported with good to great exclusive games all that time.

Nothing can compete with that just like nothing can compete with my PS3. Games games games....

at least 10 years.

The reason being that it's being produced at 28nm tech.

It will, eventually, make it to 14nm, and be price reduced, but what then?

The time-to-profit on 10nm tech will probably take 10 years in and of itself, given the cost of the fab tech at that scale. That means 10nm will be too expensive for console makers, for a good long while, and there will not be any price drops in sight when the price does make it to the $500-$600 dollar range -- sub-10nm tech may never happen, for financial reasons alone.

The "next gen" will have to be a smaller upgrade over the current gen, than ever before. It'll likely have to be on 14-20nm tech, as well, in order to be affordable. Will people buy such a minor, Wii U-styled, upgrade over the PS4 and XB1? I doubt it, given the way the Wii U is faring.

I have always liked physical copies of games rather than digital games

I don't know ... I'll guess at least 10 years. Don't ask me how I came to that rather arbitrary number, it was just a hunch

it will last till the end of the world. which so happens to be Nov 16th, the day the martians invaded and took us over without resistance because we were all glued to our tvs

My guess would be between 5-7 years and the new gen systems would arrive.

Probs 5 years before they start showing the next gen, might try to drag it out like they did this gen but tech is moving ever forward.

5-6 years before PS5

Don't see why apple and samsung keep upgrading chips in smartphones every year.

Definetly an upgrade to 4k graphics will be nice.

Well look how long the PS2 lasted, a console generation doesn't end purely because a new generation starts. PS2 is proof of that and PS3 is still pumping out exclusives in the dawn of a new generation,so.....

forever with gaikai.. J/K but it will last a good while as the game streaming becomes as popular as netflix.. Hopefully games streaming can eventually be achieved with standard broadband.. PS4 is probably going to be the last home console from sony.. PS might become a streaming service but who knows?
