Was inevitable. Hikki's awesome

Agreed. Wonder how awesome it's gonna be this time.

I don't even want to imagine how epic her theme song is going to be in KH3. I remember starting up Kingdom Hearts jut so I can hear the theme songs back in the PS2 era lol.
AiirJordann23  +   626d ago
the most memorable theme song in gaming history I still listen to the simple and clean song
MidnytRain  +   626d ago
Simple and Clean is amazing.
Sevir  +   626d ago
"Simple and Clean" is amazing, but I absolutely love "Sanctuary"! Kingdom Hearts 2 is simply the best of the franchise and that theme song complimented that game in every way.

I'm so glad Utada reprises her role in singing the theme song. She's every bit apart of this franchise and legacy. She helped defined this franchise with her music!
Magicite  +   626d ago
Awesome! Totally loved her soundtracks in KH1and2. This is the kind of music every JRPG must have.
Snookies12  +   626d ago
Wow, I'm surprised. I thought she didn't want to do the themes any longer because of having to do English and Japanese. They either offered her a good bit of money, or it's been long enough that she changed her mind.

Either way, I'm happy to hear it. Wouldn't feel the same with a different singer.
DragonKnight  +   626d ago
I can think of 2 other possibilities.

1. She's going to sing in Japanese and it'll be used for every version regardless of where it's released. Which is something no fan will have a problem with.

2. They're going to pull a Final Fantasy XIII and have some other singer that no one likes to do the English version.
Snookies12  +   626d ago
Please... Just don't be option 2.... Lol.
DragonKnight  +   626d ago
I agree. Option 2 is the worst possible scenario.
KonsoruMasuta  +   626d ago
I don't see the issue since she is fluent in English. She can easily pull off a translation. It wouldn't really bother me since I speak Japanese, but I don't really see the problem. She has release full English albums before.
Snookies12  +   626d ago
@KonsoruMasuta - Well, the reason she gave for stopping the intros after Kingdom Hearts 2 was that the songs lost their feeling when translated literally from Japanese to English.

She definitely does well in English singing as well, but it seemed to be more of a personal issue she had with it. It's great she got back on board though. :]

"1. She's going to sing in Japanese and it'll be used for every version regardless of where it's released. Which is something no fan will have a problem with."

The second part about no fan having a problem with a Japanese only is pure opinion.

I happen to be English and listen to the words so I can understand the emotional value behind the song. If I don't understand the words it's just gibberish with a good beat that has no meaning.

This is where I'd disagree. Let's be honest I explained my disagree point in detail rather then simply clicking it and not explaining my reasoning.

I'm definitely not everyone. I can't speak for others but I can clearly speak for myself. I'd like to hear the English version that I can understand.

In my personal judgement a song loses emotional value if left untranslated. No matter how great it sounds if there is a story/meaning behind it in the lyrics understanding the words are at least 50% of the song.
DragonKnight  +   626d ago
@Sarick: Come on now, you know that if you had the choice between her singing it in Japanese or Miley Cyrus singing it in English, you'd pick the Japanese version. Come on, you can admit that.
Sarick  +   626d ago
Why would Miley need to sing it when Hikaru Utada sounds great in English?

No real reason for her not to do the English version. She's already proven she can sing well in English. From my views she sounded better singing English then a native speaking vocalist.

My response comes down to the opinion you made about all fans not have a problem with the Japanese version.

Sure it'd stink for them to do option two but it'd also be my best interest to listen to her lyrics in words that I can understand.

So in that respect I choose none of the above and create my own.

3. She's going to be paid to sing it in multiple languages including English and Japanese versions.

"Come on now, you know that if you had the choice between her singing it in Japanese or Miley Cyrus singing it in English, you'd pick the Japanese version. Come on, you can admit that."

Like I'd have a choice at that point. I still disagree with this quote > "Which is something no fan will have a problem with." You see I'm not totally intransigent with your two listed possibilities.

My main point of disagreement is around that quoted portion attached to #1. It's pure conjecture because I'm a fan with a differing opinion.

Sounds great.

A singer no one likes? Are you absolutely sure there are absolutely no people who like Leona Lewis and Charice? Your opinion is not everyone's and neither is it fact.
DragonKnight  +   625d ago
@ErryK: I bet you have all their albums right? Don't get your panties in a bunch, you know no one wants Leona Lewis or Charice singing the KH theme.

@Sarick: Just because she can sing in English doesn't mean she wants to, or that they'd use her to do so.
Sarick  +   625d ago
"Just because she can sing in English doesn't mean she wants to, or that they'd use her to do so."

Like I said, my main point is the conjecture statement you made about fans not caring about the way she sings it.

I also pointed out some relevance that she can sing in multiple languages. In my views this brings into question a great disservice some people would feel if they choose not to do so.

Come on now, you know that its impossible to make a statement as fact when it's based on personal opinion. Did you notice that when I created the above comment I pointed out no diversity in my opinion on the last sentence?

I'm not totally bias or 100% right in the overall representative views of a majority or minority. I represent myself not some subjective evidence as pro rated status of superior opinion.

To put it bluntly, I'd like them to do an English version with her singing it if at all possible. To me it does matter. I realize others may have differing views or opinions that don't directly relate to mine. It's their god given right to decide for themselves not mine.

same here.. im shocked.. i thought she doesn't want to work with Disney anymore... anyway, this is good news! a new Utada Hikaru song is a celebration! :)
Magicite  +   626d ago
Or she also loves KH :D
-Gespenst-  +   626d ago
I was hoping they'd put a new song in. The other two have been used in like every game.
BrotakuSan  +   626d ago
She is a good artist, can't wait to hear the song they use.
Eonjay  +   626d ago
Good news! How could she resist? She is the voice of Kingdom Hearts!
LAWSON72  +   626d ago
Is she the one behind the awesome intro song if so f ya. The KH intros always got me excited and pumped to play the game.

Snookies12  +   626d ago
Yeah, she did Simple and Clean, and Sanctuary. The two intros to the other games.
rdgneoz3  +   626d ago
Both in English and in Japanese. Sounds amazing in either language.
Snookies12  +   626d ago
@rdgneoz3 - Yeah, she does a great job singing in English. One of the best I've heard from Japan. Though I have heard slightly better. Still, speaking English is immensely hard for native Japanese speakers. Considering how nuanced our language is.
KonsoruMasuta  +   626d ago
Snookies, English isn't that hard for her. She was born in New York. She lived there until she was 14.
Snookies12  +   626d ago
@KonsoruMasuta - I wasn't aware she was born in the US. That gives her an advantage in that case lol.

I dont even like kingdom hearts, and I like the theme songs
xKugo  +   626d ago
Great..it helps that I'm Japanese and can actually enjoy the music instead of not knowing what it means. Loved her singing in KH2...hope there are some classics on the new game just like the past two games.

I'll be getting the Japanese version imported just to be certain, though.
Inception  +   626d ago
Big fans of her, from her 1st single "Automatic" to the latest single "Sakura Nagashi" for Evangelion 3.33 ending song ^^

So, i don't think any other singer fit the bills to sing KH III theme, except the beautifull Ms Utada ^^
kingPoS  +   626d ago
What if... what if Utada not only did the theme but also the voicework of a new character. As a talented bilingual artist, she definitely has the capability.
