Are Console Exclusives Becoming Extinct

Pixelvolt takes a look at console exclusives and how they may be going the way of the Dodo. (Culture, Industry, PS3, PS4, Retro, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

A man isn't sure what if they think first party studios are gonna start making games for the competition or if they're just all planning to retire.

I don't get the point of console exclusives if you're trying to make money look at Cod or Gta they release on everything and there Billion dollar franchises.

Well, 3rd party exclusives are practically dead, so I don't see what you don't get. The few that remain are typically just "timed", which basically allows companies to have their cake and eat it too. Make a fantastic game, get paid millions to make it exclusive for a year or two, add like 20 minutes of extra content, sell it to the people on the other consoles who've been waiting for it.

If you mean first party exclusives, then they need to give you a reason to support the system. Like if M$ made their games third party, then the Xbox One preorder sales will be practically nonexistent. If Sony did it, then it's hard to say what would happen, since it's STILL $100 dollars cheaper.

A) Beyond: Two Souls is pretty much a second party title.
B) I said practically, not completely and said "The few that remain are typically just 'timed'" in the next sentence.
C) The fact you can only name 3 games more so proves my point than yours.

Well, for most third party developers it doesn't make sense to limit yourself to one platform, but there will always be first party exclusives. I'd say there are becoming fewer exclusives, not that they are going extinct.

3rd party exclusives are pretty much (unless if 1 of the 3 company's is involved like co developing or publishing)but first party isn't going anywhere
Gemmol  +   430d ago
who ever wrote this did not see how Mario Kart Wii and New Super Mario Bros before it got bundle sold over 30 million which when you add up every call of duty for each console would have a hard time to reach..........I can understand them saying this about Playstation because third party sell more then sony first party, Halo on xbox sell about the same of call of duty on the xbox, so its not that bad.....but yeah this article is wrong

No. Should the people that are arrogant and try to rub in your face get punched? Absolutely.

"Are console exclusives becoming extinct?"

Okay bro, you need to get out from under that rock. If anything, this next gen of gaming is showing that exclusives matter more than anything else.

fsfsxii  +   430d ago
Nope.
And no, 3rd party exclusives aren't dead. Look at all the exclusivs the PS3 is getting from 3rd party publishers.
