Assassin's Creed 4 predicted to sell 20% less than AC3

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is expected to sell at least 10 million units, Ubisoft has revealed.

The figure pins Black Flag below last year's Assassin's Creed 3, which sold 12.5 million units during its first six months on sale.

Well i guess it's because AC3 left a bad taste in peoples mouths. But saying that, GTA4 did too but GTA5 still broke records so i don't see why AC4 can't outsell AC3.

alexkoepp1400d ago

Cause you push a new game every year, which gets old super quick... see CoD

Take your time and make sweet games, instead of money

matgrowcott1400d ago

Yeah. See CoD. One of the biggest sellers in the industry.

OT: For long running franchises, people will be happy to overlook one or two relatively poor entries. Grand Theft Auto IV was by no means bad, and neither was AC3 (especially when it'd been patched).

One game probably won't change sales all that much.

alexkoepp1400d ago

I am a gamer pure and simple, is AC not stale to you? Is CoD not stale to you? CoD may be the biggest seller in the industry, because a majority of sales happen fall season, and most people cant game year round. People have to decide which games to buy and CoD is a solid bet. If you are a unrestricted income gamer like me that stuff has grown old super quick. What is the difference between CoD4: MW and Ghosts? There hardly is anything....

If anyone is suffering it is hardcore gamers...
Imagine that, the people who care are alienated... all about the $$$ anymore it is truly sad...

matgrowcott1400d ago (Edited 1400d ago )

"If anyone is suffering it is hardcore gamers..."

How so?

No, honestly, I see this crap pulled out far too often. I'm calling you on it.

2013 has seen four or five games that by score could contend with the best games ever made. There are more platforms and titles released, with a wider variety in each, than there ever has been before. If you're not interested in AAA titles, there are countless indie titles which will definitely scratch your itch. Within the next six weeks, you'll almost certainly gain access to two of the most powerful made-for-gaming machines ever released.

And better. Gaming is now by-and-large socially accepted, so it doesn't matter how deep you get into your hobby; unless you die or run through London wearing a knight's costume, you're unlikely to surprise anyone when you say you play video games for multiple hours a week.

So tell me - how is now a bad time for hardcore gamers? Because Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed (both well-developed titles) feel stale to you? Because the industry has to make a profit?

It must be terrible to feel so marginalized in an industry that is providing so much entertainment for you.

headed to bed but expect and update here tomorrow

stavrami1400d ago

Alex do not respond he likes to argue facts that he googles that then contradict each other . Then when I call him out . He comes back with education has let me down and did not respond to his contradictions . There's no getting through leave him be

isa_scout1400d ago

Your analogy makes no sense in the context of the article. Likening it to COD when COD continues to break sales records year after year is not very accurate. I don't understand all the hate for COD(not saying I love it). it's like the movie industry. You have your brilliant directors like Martin Scorsese and Matthew Vaughn then you have Michael Bay....
His movies are not as cerebral or as smart, but come on, who the hell doesn't like movies with explosions and kick ass robots????
Thats what COD is, a Mr. Bay production and if people enjoy it then who are we to continue judging them year after year like they are the bane of the industry.

matgrowcott1400d ago (Edited 1400d ago )

@Stavrami

Yeah, because you refuse to believe verifiable fact because "sometimes Google lies."

If people like you want to ignore me or, better yet, stop giving opinions on things you refuse to understand, the internet would probably become a better place.

EDIT

Oh, and his "calling me out" was to copy each of my sentences and then put the phrase LOL after each one. Then he wonders why I question his education.

He is 35 years old.

Tolten961400d ago

They have been making AC4 since 2011

Pekka1400d ago

@isa_scout: Well, there are a lot of people which hate Michael Bay movies and I'm one of them. They are dull and not funny at all and they don't even look good IMO. Then again, last Bay movie which I've seen is Transformers 2 and it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I almost slept during the movie, it was so dull.

The same thing about CoD, I've only played CoD:MW and MW2 but I only liked MW and MW2 was not good. After that, I decided that I would never buy another CoD ever again.

Because Rockstar didn't release GTA V a year after GTA IV. Instead they released two, IMO, brilliant DLCs that at least to me lessened the bad taste left by GTA IV.

With that said, if AC4 turns out to be a good game and an improvement over AC3 I see no reason why it shouldn't outsell it. But I'm not surprised the pre-orders and expectations are lower.

GarrusVakarian1400d ago

"Because Rockstar didn't release GTA V a year after GTA IV. Instead they released two, IMO, brilliant DLCs that at least to me lessened the bad taste left by GTA IV. "

I guess you're right. Longer development time really does help a game and GTA4's DLC was very good too, better than the main game in my opinion.

nypifisel1400d ago

Because they oversaturate their own market with yearly releases of the same game. They're pretty stupid actually!

Magicite1400d ago

IMHO AC4 might become best selling AC game to date, because it introduces open-world and naval battles (I know AC3 did the same, but not at such scale)

evilhasitsway1400d ago

and gta 5 left a puke taste in my mouth that game was way over hyped and the online well im not even going to go there.

PlayStation_41400d ago

Well that Watch_Dogs delay is sure to help AC4 out, it is now the only next-gen open world launch title now, after all.

Wonder if that is why Ubisoft delayed WD, poor AC4 pre order figures?

Kalebninja1400d ago

honestly i liked 3 more than 2 there was so much more to do in 3 and connor had more of a personality than ezio and i liked his story a lot more

GarrusVakarian1400d ago (Edited 1400d ago )

"and connor had more of a personality than ezio "

Lol, what? One of the main things people disliked about AC3 was the fact that Connor DIDN'T have a personality. Ezio was charismatic, funny, he had morals and actually seemed like a nice person which is why he's largely regarded as the best character. Whereas Connor was just grim all the time and didn't have any depth to him like Ezio did.

CrossingEden1400d ago

Connor DID have a personality. People think that charismatic is the ONLY personality. Ezio was basically a saturday morning cartoon character compared to Connor, who was greatly saddened and affected by the things he had to do over time.

Kalebninja1400d ago

@crossingeden THANK YOU!!! ezio was such a generic character

Avernus1400d ago

I stopped buying after AC2. Maybe 4 will change my mind. I'll see. Might pick it up when it's discounted.

Bathyj1400d ago (Edited 1400d ago )

Good, I hope it sells even less than that.

Maybe that will teach Ubisoft not to flog a dead horse over releasing a promising new IP. Dont they realise Watchdogs could be their Assassins Creed for the next generation?

EDIT
Yeah, Im sure Watchdogs will be milked eventually, but for now its new and fresh and they should have delayed AC4 not Watchdogs.

GarrusVakarian1400d ago (Edited 1400d ago )

Ubisoft said that they aren't interested in making games that they cant make franchises out of (milking) so yeah, seems that Watch Dogs will be milked to death too, and Far Cry.

Im not necessarily saying that if something is turned into a franchise its automatically milking, just that given Ubisofts track record, its what we can expect.

AC1 2007
AC2 2009
AC:Brotherhood 2010
AC:Revelations 2011
AC3 2012
AC4 2013

The longest time between releases has been 2 years, and it showed in the quality of games after AC2. I hope that we don't get stung again by sub par quality with AC4 but it does look very promising, but that might just be the pretty next gen graphics fooling me. Time will tell.

Then there are these:
Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles
Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines
Assassin's Creed II: Discovery
Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy
Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy
Assassin's Creed: Recollection
Assassin's Creed: Multiplayer Rearmed
Assassin's Creed III: Liberation
Assassin's Creed: Utopia
Assassin's Creed: Pirates

TheEnigma3131400d ago (Edited 1400d ago )

This is just gamer fatigue. I'm not hyped for AC this year; it looks amazing, but it kinda wore out it's welcome. The story line is starting not to make sense, so the series lost me.
