Sony’s launch line-up is populous but whimsical

PS4 and Xbox One are just a few weeks away; if you haven’t already made up your mind, now’s the time. We kick off a close look at both consoles’ software line-up with Sony’s multitude of exclusives.

The story is too old to be commented.
1OddWorld1405d ago (Edited 1405d ago )

The only thing I find whimsical is the push to make the systems seem the same and balanced when they are to different animals.

If PS4 and XBOne were animals what would they be and why? This is going to be funny.

xHeavYx1404d ago

Much talk about the launch line up (which has something to offer for everyone) but people need to remember that many of the big studio games haven't announced anything.
What I like about Sony is that I know I will get great games, hell, they still pour PS3 exclusives even if the PS4 was announced, they don't have to rely on timed exclusives/DLC

Abash1404d ago

The PS4 launch exclusives hit all the right notes with me. We're getting a big holiday shooter with Killzone: Shadow Fall, a new racing game with DriveClub, and a platformer that's a love letter to the platforming games of the PSOne days with Knack.

It's the perfect variety for me and is enough to hold me over till inFamous: Second Son in February

nukeitall1404d ago

If Sony's history is going to go by, then you will have a few years of no games.

Take a look at the PS Vita, and take a look at the PS3 history.

xHeavYx1404d ago

@Nukeitall
Well, I can't remember the last time the 360 got an exclusive IP, but I'm sure you are looking forward to all those Kinect titles

LarVanian1404d ago (Edited 1404d ago )

@ nukeitall

I took a look at the PS3's history (just by viewing my own collection). I noticed that between the first few years of it's life (ie 2006-2009) it had the following exclusives.
-Resistance: FOM
-Motorstorm
-Warhawk
-Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
-Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
-Folklore
-Heavenly Sword
-Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
-Metal Gear Solid 4
-Wipeout HD
-Valkyria Chronicles
-Little Big Planet
-Motorstorm 2
-Resistance 2
-Siren Blood Curse
-Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
-Killzone 2
-inFamous
-Demon's Souls
-Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time
-Wipeout Fury
-Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (more highly rated than every 360 exclusive)

So yeah, if that is the standard we are to expect from the PS4's first few years then I guess that Playstation gamers are in for a serious treat!

webeblazing1404d ago

Not seeing the point of posting list when we all know every platform gets games exclusives n multiplats. But I guess its a start of another pissing match

Magicite1404d ago

Been Playstation Fan since old PSOne days and I can tell for sure - say whatever you want, but when it comes to exclusives, PlayStation is the best place to game on!

darthv721404d ago

@10dd..."If PS4 and XBOne were animals what would they be and why?"

I would say a lion (xb1) and cheetah (ps4). My reasoning is that both are big cats and while the lion is often referred to as the king of the jungle...he isnt very fast. Oh he is still quite powerful but he is more inclined with keeping his pride in check and getting others who are part of his pride to do all the work.

the cheetah is both fast and powerful and able to do things on its own that the lion cant. It can take care of itself as well as care and nurture others within its family.

Ahh I'm just bullsh!ting you...both platforms are capable in their own right and as the hunter (consumer) I can pick off a lion and a cheetah and have both mounted on my wall.

PS4- A bear (powerful, no nonsense, carnivorous)
Xbone - An Eagle (high flying with little effort and can change direction quickly, predatory, great eyesight)

Volkama1404d ago

Bubble up, you entered an inevitably petty fanboy game with an answer that is well considered and complimentary to both.

IcicleTrepan1404d ago

I assume you are a PS4 fanatic. You might want to consider that a bear's fighting style consists of randomly biting someone to death with no actual skill, or that it sleeps in beds of carrion.

1OddWorld1404d ago

I am glad some one responded. I just wanted to see what people would come up with. It was all about fun not about fanboyism. Thanks for the laugh.

Bubble up

Volkama1404d ago

Sorry Oddworld I didn't mean to imply you were trying to start a fanboy argument, it's just where I expected things to go. Lion and slug, bear and skunk on a roundabout etc etc.

strickers1404d ago

If people are going to talk about bears, do some research. Bears are not clumsy at all. They capable of huge power AND fine, highly skilled movements.
One thing I've noticed with fanboys( of either ilk), they seem to have the least actual knowledge. I know I used bears, but it so often applies to gaming history and tech

PS4- a Leopard, strong, fast and intelligent.

Xbox One - Leopard cub/teen, not quite as strong as its parent :p

Mad Aizen1404d ago

@nuke "If Sony's history is going to go by, then you will have a few years of no games."

that is one bad attempt at trolling right there. you can do better.

KwietStorm1404d ago

No that's the sad thing. I don't think he can do better.

solidjun51404d ago (Edited 1404d ago )

I find it funny that everyone marks him for trolling, yet the comment still gets unmarked.

@KwietStorm: Yep. I agree.

pS2 launch line up-not great
ps3 launch line up-apart from resistance, not great

ps4 launch line up-varied

an we both know how ps2 and ps3 turned out with exclusives and new ip's throughout their lifespan

Xbox original- launch line up ok, abandoned the for 360

xbox 360 launch line up-ok,no new exclusives or ip's for past two years, games like ryse originally a 360 game now pushed onto xbone to fill out its launch line up

xbone launch line up- great

there's a pattern here... Sony always blossoms midway and nearing the launch of a new system with exclusives, new ip's, the console beforehand is still catered for

Microsoft start out with a sprint and then tire because it has a new toy to play with, abandoned both its consoles beforehand for the newer iteration that does not create trust

it's a marathon not a sprint

GarrusVakarian1404d ago

"it's a marathon not a sprint"

Amen to that, look how PS3 started and ended up, that will happen again this gen.

sephiroth4201404d ago

i think ps4 will have a better starting year than the ps3 did. i hope both consoles pour out a lot of good quality games.

WeAreLegion1404d ago

http://www.ign.com/articles...

The PS2 had a pretty good lineup, with Ico and Jak & Daxter coming out shortly after launch.

Godmars2901404d ago

The point being "after" launch. Not that there should be any real emphasis on launch games.

I mean when after a year one system has a game drought while the other sees a steady stream, who's going to care what hey launched with?

nukeitall1404d ago (Edited 1404d ago )

I think more appropriately you want games at all times, and third party generally do not come through during launch. Just look at past history.

That is why first party needs to step up at launch, but then lay back so third party can shine later in the cycle.

Despite few exclusives late in the Xbox 360 cycle, there are plenty of games to play.

Historically then, the Xbox 360 has a consistently strong set of games at all times to keep gamers busy.

At Sony there is a huge glut of missing games during launch, only to have games compete with third party late in the cycle. Essentially Sony systems are backloaded.

MS is more front loaded, but is really more stable.

SCW19821404d ago

Wow! You really believe the shit coming out of your mouth. I don't know what to say to such biased stupidity.

Outside_ofthe_Box1404d ago

***"I think more appropriately you want games at all times, and third party generally do not come through during launch. Just look at past history.

You're just saying this just so that you can justify the lack of exclusives late in the life cycle of Microsoft's consoles.

If the goal is to have games at all times on consoles regardless of 1st or 3rd party then why can't the logic of letting the 3rd party shine late in the life cycle apply to the beginning as well? Is it because it wouldn't support your obvious biased agenda? That is definitely the reason or else you wouldn't be spreading BS and fud.

There are plenty of of 3rd party titles coming out within the first year of next gen consoles, but that won't stop you from saying the PS4 is lacking in the games front even though what you want is to have "games at all times." Not to mention unannounced exclusive titles that could come out in later part of 2014.

Hicken1404d ago

The lengths you'll go to in order to make bad things look good.

And given how your bubbles just keep increasing, there are apparently a significant enough number of people that are gullible enough to believe you... or, perhaps, just a significant number of people who are as desperate as you.

Either way, it's pretty damn sad to see.

nukeitall1404d ago (Edited 1404d ago )

@Outside_ofthe_Box:

"If the goal is to have games at all times on consoles regardless of 1st or 3rd party then why can't the logic of letting the 3rd party shine late in the life cycle apply to the beginning as well?"

Yes, but history tells you that 3rd party don't want to support new platforms until they mature which means better tools and bigger market to sell your games. Unless you are a huge developer with huge publisher backing you, you won't have the resources to go next generation AAA.

Only indies will take that risk, because their outlay is small, and their game is less complex.

Now go ahead, count how many 3rd party games are released for next generation platform compared to current.

There is just no way that is going to happen. Console manufacturer need to push content out early to mitigate the drought that happens early in the cycle.

If you don't support your own platform, who will! Just look at Wii U. Complete disaster!

@Hicken:

"And given how your bubbles just keep increasing, there are apparently a significant enough number of people that are gullible enough to believe you..."

Seeing as how your bubbles has been staying where it is, it is pretty damn sad to see too.

How about you post a relevant comment, or is it because you got none?

Outside_ofthe_Box1404d ago (Edited 1404d ago )

***"Yes, but history tells you that 3rd party don't want to support new platforms until they mature which means better tools and bigger market to sell your games."***

***"Now go ahead, count how many 3rd party games are released for next generation platform compared to current."***

Comparing the amount of 3rd party games being released on current gen to next gen holds no water since your whole entire argument is based on steady stream of games throughout a console's life. And history? How about the present? Looking at the present, the 1st year alone shows me that the PS4 will in fact have plenty of games throughout the year which doesn't include possible announced titles that could be revealed for a fall/holiday release for 2014. If you add indie games to the mix the number only increases. Yet we still have people saying that the PS4 has no games for the first few years/the launch lineup is weak...?

Games should be made regardless if it's at the beginning or at the of a cycle. To purposely not make a game just because it's the end of the generation is silly imo. The more games there are the more choice you have. Not everyone is going to like the 3rd party games released at the end of the cycle, so to not have a choice of a 1st party game that you could possibly prefer to the 3rd party ones at the end of cycle all because "late in the gen is the time for 3rd party to shine" is silly for a gamer to want imo.

Hicken1404d ago

Relevance?

Sure.

If we're looking at past history, third party titles are ALWAYS there. They're there at launch- though often just ports from the previous gen- and all throughout the life of a given console. Do I have to list the number of multiplats releasing for PS4/XB1, and run off a list of multiplats for every year of the current gen, or will you accept this as the truth that it is?

First party needs to be there from start to finish. It's the best way to get people to want to buy- and KEEP- the console. You build loyalty and trust with your fanbase, which translates into continued purchases and a larger potential carryover for the next generation. Third party titles will shine on their own, but as a console manufacturer, you should never let them outshine your own offerings.

Historically, the 360 launched with a handful of good games, just like pretty much every console has. Just a few games, just like Dreamcast and Xbox and PS2 and Gamecube and Wii and PS3 and PS1 and SNES and NES and Genesis and N64 and so on.

PS3 ramped up as the generation wore on, while the 360 died down way too fast. That doesn't show any signs of stability. It shows signs of complaceny: Microsoft gets comfortable with the fanbase they have, and then dump them off on third parties to satisfy.

Oh, and what "glut" of games is missing? There are more titles releasing on PS4 than XB1 at launch, and you won't find most of them on the competition(though PC is another story).

How's that for relevant? And far more factual than your BS.

MS abandons its old console the moment they start talking about new one.
Sony abandons old console when Consumers say so(with their wallets).

strickers1404d ago

Were you even there for those launches? I've heard all this crap before. PS2 had 2 killers. SSX and Timespiltters. Great fun for hours.
360 had COD2 and bilge. I had that too.

Am I the only one who thinks both the PS4 and XBO have incredible launch lineups, compared to previous generations?

Sayai jin1404d ago

They both have decent line-ups, but hey we are on N4G.The console extremist have to bash the other console no matter what.

WeAreLegion1404d ago

Yeah. I can understand bashing certain things, but the launch lineups are unbeatable! Watch_Dogs is a huge hit to both, but I have 21 games to play for my PS4 on November 15th!

Sayai jin1403d ago

Wow 21 games...nice! I have about 5 games that I will get right away for my PS4 and 8 for my kid's PS4.

rainslacker1404d ago

I think both have good line ups. PS4 launch titles appeal to me more since they're are more unique titles in the mix, particularly from indies and such.

There are a few games on the X1 I would like to play though, so maybe one day I'll get one and go back and play them.

1404d ago
AnteCash1404d ago

Not to mention all the F2P games available on ps4.
