Um the steam box (which actually called the steam machine) is not console don't know if you got the memo or not. Steam machines are subsidized pcs not consoles

Technicalities aside, it's going up against the xbox1 and ps4. So yes calling it a console war is appropriate in this context.

smh who cares if its a console, or a PC, or an oven...its a 'thing' to play video games on...and its competing with other 'things' that you can play video games on...

Fair points in some cases but I wouldn't put it against Nintendo, Sony or MS simply because it's not a traditional console like those, it's more of a mini-pc.

Maybe if it sells well and they add all the sales on PC steam to the steam box it may stand a chance, but the console alone won't win. I love Steam but the big thing they are missing is 1st party exclusive games. Almost all games on Steam are 3rd party. Valve needs to take a step back and bring us some more Half life, Portal, L4D; and really work hard on making them must have games, no shortcuts.

If I put Linux on my PC it becomes a console? Well I'll be....

Maybe just as long as they make it very powerful at a very low price. With a really good lineup of games as well.
