Pokémon X/Y Day 1 Sales Set 3DS Record

"Pokémon has been one of Nintendo's biggest franchises since the original was released in 1996 in Japan for the Game Boy. Pokémon X/Y for the 3DS is the latest game to be released for the franchise. It was released worldwide on October 12.

The game reached nearly 400,000 pre-orders in the US. Day 1 sales have set a 3DS record hitting 5.5 million units. This is also the biggest opening for an exclusive in 2013 and the second biggest opening overall all this year. It was only beaten out by Grand Theft Auto V which sold 17.5 million units in its opening week. However, this was across two platforms."

I live seeing nintendo prosper. I tkink it's because they rarely let their successes turn them into arrogant d-bags.

Also their fans for the most part are very pleasant and are in my opinion the least offensive fanboys in gaming.

OT: Well done Ninty, keep the good times rolling!

The arrogant d-bag part is why I don't buy from Sony anyore.

The PS3 was my last purchases from them. Removing backwards compatibility was bad enough, but when they removed the other OS(one of the features I bought it for) that was my last purchase from them, software or otherwise, ever.

Now the really important question is, how much profit they made. I know people are going to rush to try to downlplay this with GTAV but how much was the dev cost for GTAV vs Pokemon X/Y?

X/Y will have better legs than GTAV. Nintendo games always seem to have the best legs. Though I don't see it selling as well as GTAV.

Who expected otherwise? Mainline handheld Pokemon games always sells like crazy and now it has full 3D-polygon visuals. It's going to perform very well.

I know several people who haven't played Pokemon in a few generations who have gotten X/Y. X/Y has the biggest changes to the series that I have ever seen.
