Wii U UK sales rose by more than 685 per cent last week, Nintendo has told MCV.
Awesome. :D Even after all these years, windwaker is a superb playthrough. Heck, I just play through it again and again just to enjoy the sights and sailing.
Great news for Wii U. At the very least, this highlights Nintendo's main problem which was the lack of steady software releases. If they can keep releasing must-have games, they're system should become profitable.
November. Thats the word of the day because you know what when the PS40ne come out WII U will be a forgotten joke that everyone says pffft youve got a wii u were all on ps4/one, your frineds will all have a true next gen console with new games You will be playing 10 year old remakes, 2.5D stupid kiddy platforms, milkedario(mario) and all of this on a pile of dogshit outdated hardware.
It's worth it for the music and visuals a lone.
Call me crazy, but this is my least favorite Zelda game. That's not to say that WW didn't have some of the best moments in the series. I just wasn't crazy about all the pointless rupees that couldn't be spent. Maybe I missed something, but I wasn't digging all the sailing. By the time I got to the triforce shards.... I wasn't enjoying it anymore. I'm interested in playing this one, when I can find a copy for 30 bucks or so. There's plenty of other great games to play right now.
Call me crazy but my favourite Zelda was Links Awakening for the gameboy and my least favorite was Wind Waker. Nexus 7 2013
Yeah I can hear you. Wind Waker wasnt exactly my favorite neither. But I disliked Majoras Mask more. But the remake and the better sailing really made the game better then before. It gave me a reason to replay the game and I was really stunned by, what I forgot about, so the game actually felt new, with only a few things I could remember well. Edit: Funny how people disagree, this is my opinion and you cannot disagree about what my opinion is.
Of course you can... that's why they call it an opinion
"Funny how people disagree, this is my opinion and you cannot disagree about what my opinion is." so what, we have to accept your opinion as fact? lol. the entire basis of a thumb up, thumb down or agree and disagree system is to reflect how a community feels about a perspective. get over it.
Not having played any of the Zelda games (other than a little bit of Twighlight Princes - yawn), I found WW (to my surprise) to be WONDERFUL!! So .... if this is your least favourite, I have a lot to look forward to!
wow if a 10 year old remake did this, i wonder what 3D mario will do.
Nintendo's stocks have fallen 42% since WII U's launch and has only risen mariganly since last week (2%). So yes a 2% change in their company value is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo massive (not) in the same amount that the WII U came out Sony's shares have risen by 77%. Also if you think 2% in a week is alot HP's stock has risen by 8.99% this week (4.5X more than nintendos in a week) LOL the wii u is still selling less than the VITA and once ps4one release wii u will be sent to a fiery pit of hell and will be in an extremely, extremly dire situation. Nintendo needs to learn milked franchasies and no softawre and plenty of gimmicks are not the magical combination.
Trollololololololololololololo lololololololololololololololol !
And not a single Sony exclusive is in the top 30 best reviewed games of all time LOL.......Sony needs to learn that bad games + interactive movies = garbage LMAO!!!
Meanwhile, in PullFactsOuttaAss World
Yeah, except Sony isn't devoted to games. If anything the Playstation brand has hurt Sony's stock. And I can give you some statistics if you're really that interested.
And now Nintendo can start making more HD remakes. They did a great job with this one. Look fantastic.
Honestly, I only think there should be an HD remake if there is a really good reason for it. For example, Ocarina of Time, Star Fox and Wind Waker were all remade around their ten year anniversaries. (They were also developed on platforms in desperate need of more content at the time).
And Wind Waker, of all 3D Zeldas, was probably the one, which was played the least, because of the Gamecube sales. So they get a lot of people interested, because most people didnt play it and for them it is like a new Zelda game and offers the magic, a new zelda offers. So in a way, it was a very smart decision, to choose that Zelda game, for an remake, since not too much to do other than making the graphics better and offer a new experience for most people.
They could easily remake something like Links awakening purely based on using some awesome art style. I'd buy it 10 times over.
Yeah Rock on who gives a fucking shit about new games anyways, Nintendo was going to make some ass milked mario or zelda game anyway. NEW GAMES NEED TO DIE MOFOS LETS ALL PLAY GAMES THAT CAME OUT 10 YEARS AGO. WOHOOOOOOOOOOOO
Is over 9000
the wii u was selling next to nothing in the UK. so it isnt saying much. global weekly wii u sales went from 33K to 43K. lol you call that a spike? that is still worse than the PS3 or xbox360 EVER sold in a week. but hey, things sound alot more impressive when you use percents and not actual sales numbers.
These figures are based off October 5th sales figures, your figures for the Wii U are from September 28th on VGChartz so you're actually wrong. "Nintendo has told MCVUK that sales for the Wii U in the UK has increased 685 percent for the week ending October 5" http://www.vgchartz.com/art...
Yeah, but look at the numbers. "The Wii U sold just 1,268 units the week before Wind Waker HD, according to VGChartz. That would put last weeks sale at 8,685 units." It's not hard to have such an increase when your previous week's sales weren't quite 1300. The question is whether or not this will spark any permanent increases.
lol knew this post was gonna be here
lol you really hate the wii u. Idk why you go out of your way to make these comments. Hope all is well in your life mate.
Well technically it is a spike, just not anything that is worth shouting to the heavens about that nintendo fans seem to be patting themselves on the back for. Facts are conveniently ignored by the wii u crowd in regards to sales numbers and other aspects. Totally anecdotal but my walmart has completely pulled wii u consoles from it's shelves, just wii's and handhelds but they still sell the games. Yeah maybe 3 or 4 yrs from now looking at nintendo's expected 2014 lineup, it is a easy pass for me. Talk about the games nintendo guys, because the sales aren't shit worth bragging about.
Great news, I just picked up a Wii U for Zelda Wind Waker and the remake is incredible, I hope Nintendo remakes more of it's older titles, an HD remake of Super Mario 64 would make me the happiest person on the planet. I hope the Wii U makes a rebound, if Zelda WW has this big of an impact on sales, I can't imagine what Mario 3D World, Smash Bros, X, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart 8, Yarn Yoshi and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem will do.
Not to down play this, but the WiiU sells under 1000 units a week, at most this is 6/7000 consoles. Hopefully numbers will go up.
That's impressive. Looking forward to the new Sonic and Mario over the next few weeks.
My interpretation of this is games sell systems.
wow nice analytical, highly comprehensive interpretation you must have finished statistics at MIT, otherwise how could you make such intelligent conclusion about such advanced statistical data sets. Are you a wizard or what?! I must say I am truly impressed and humbled to be around such a gloriously enlightened individual as your self.
About time i want a new Zelda Nintendo, this is my gaming style ever since long ago. i bought a psx metal gear and a nintendo 64 zelda then a ps2 GTA and a game cube metroids prime, then PS3 uncharted Wii twilight princess, PS4 and you get the picture
skyward sword was two years ago this is a remake of a ten year old game ????
If it was selling 1-2k per week max then it should have sold 7-8k units this week ... not an impressive number but it should be enough for nintendo to make profit since the next gen consoles will crush the Wii u
I wouldn't say "crush"...
I love Nintendo :)
Thats a huge spike in the UK wow...
The Wii U can sell well, I think a lot of people where waiting for a game like zelda to buy the system though, until this point I would of passed on a Wii U also.
Wii U sales were even higher back in May after Xbox One's initial unveiling, shooting up 875% on the Amazon UK chart. Wii U's ranking went from 390th place to 40th, and then eventually 11th. Of course, it didn't last long ,and sales have continued to be awfully low in UK. The high % still isn't good enough given the situation its been facing this year. Apparently, retailers over there have severely limtied their shelf space for the console. Anyway, its nice to see a Wii U title make it on the top 5 chart over there. Wind Waker HD placed 4th on it. It's a bit strange that Nintendo hasn't bothered doing TV ads for Zelda to help promote the bundles and price drop, at least in the US, as far as I know. They better have one for Super Mario 3D World, because Wii U clearly needs all the promotion it can get since this holiday season is vital to the console's future. The state of third party support in 2014 looks pretty grim. Even if some third parties are convinced to do some more ports, it takes at least 6 months to make them.
Amazon UK isn't even all of UK.
You're right, but my point is the percentage is rather meaningless unless we know the real world sales figure.
And I agree, but I was just pointing out that your example wasn't a good one.
WiiU will sell lots this christmas...
This are great news. Nobody expects the sales to go nuts because of an remake. 685% means 7,85 times the sales then before. That is great, I know, fanboys will come and make it seem bad, but you have to start somewhere. I know fanboys will come and say it is still no good, but what do they expect, 1 game to increase the sales by 100000% ? Who cares, it is still only a remake. I think it is a great number, especially for the UK market. That it still has to increase, for sure, but as I said, you have to start somewhere.
Do if the numbers are based off of vgchartz UK sales figures then from my rough mathematical calculation the went from selling 5,627 to 38,544 units roughly in europe alone. That is not to shabby.
the best is yet to come
when you consider the wiiu was only selling around 6 units per month
Looks like my numbers were close between europe and NA nintendo had a pretty good week. My recommendation now is do not release games in Japan first anymore. They are not buying Wii U systems. Also if you won't make a pokemon game for the Wii U then give us a alternative.
685% increase!! That must mean it sold 7 Wii U's this week!!
