Let's Be Honest: 'GTA Online' Is In Beta

It’s been almost two weeks since Rockstar launched GTA Online, the online component of GTA 5, and the game is working better than it was before. After a few days of inaccessible servers, deleted characters and frequent connection problems, the pseudo-MMO is chugging along, not perfectly mind you, but at least on a functional level. (Culture, Grand Theft Auto Online, PS3, Xbox 360)

I'd say pre-alpha but hey, whatever floats your boat.

You have no idea what a pre-alpha is.

I have been playing since the 2nd of October and no major issues. Still have my original character (Rank 24)

Same here, only had issues with the tutorial on the day it came out but it fixed itself later that night. But I do have friends that are still having major issues, which sucks because we can't play together.

In beta for next gen release. Possibly late 2014?

Wonder what pricing scheme they'll do. F2P, Subs, buy once then pay for DLC as they come out... time will tell.

Fingers crossed for a GOTY edition, with all DLC included, for $60.

Pre-alpha

yup. pretty much. Huge disappointment. I miss the GTA4 team death-match games where you have the entire city...

I've been playing since Monday, and haven't had a single issue. I haven't been this hooked on a online game since halo2. The 'beta' period is over,

Beat for pc and ps4 may e and hopefully x1 as well. You could tell. The world is packed but feels like it could use more if only our consoles were more powerful......

Explain
Khajiit86  +   504d ago
Just feels like it belongs on a gaming pc or ps4. The game runs great on my ps3 but we could see more traffic and pedestrians, better load times and much more. Im sure you know what I mean if you have played gta 5.
RickHiggity  +   502d ago
I actually know exactly what you mean. I just didn't at first. But yea. They do a good job of fooling you into seeing a nice draw distance, but really, they're just placeholders. Try using a sniper at a long distance. Pedestrians, traffic, and other players disappear. The awesome possibilities of having a huge online open world are gone now. Hopefully a PC version (maybe even a PS4 version if it comes out) will improve upon these things.
So yea, we're pretty much on the same page.

Probably but I haven't had any issues this week.
RickHiggity  +   505d ago
Maybe. But if that's the case, CoD has been in beta for the past 6 years.
