Arc System Works is one of my favorite devs. They've mastered 3D looking like 2D. (a lot harder to pull off than you would think)

What do you mean 3D looking like 2D? Are you saying these characters are actually 3D models??? I've never heard that and it doesn't look that way at all so that would be really surprising o.O

He's talking about their other game, Guilty Gear

Yes they are 3D models with the shaders turned off (a little more complicated than that, but that's the general idea). The shadows are baked into the animations that are hand drawn (thousands of them!) ASW is using the Unreal Engine (which is a 3D game engine) for their new Guilty Gear Xrd game. There are many forums online discussing how hard this is to pull off.

@Abriael, yeah I should have said that in the OP. They have been working on this technique for a long time though.

So then just Guilty Gear (which I could easily see was 3D models) or the BlazBlue games as well?

I'm still a bit confused.

If Blazblue is using 3D character models that'd be mind-blowing.

This art style is beautiful.

I've been looking to get into a new fighting game lately but can't decide between one of the blazeblues or KoF 13.
