Beyond is a supernatural 'interactive drama' from Heavy Rain developers Quantic Dream. Despite some excellent direction and a stellar performance from Ellen Page, the game's plot is erratic and unfocussed. Tom Hoggins explores a "fascinating mess".
Beyond: two stars?
HAHA that's uh, pretty clever. :)
Beyond: Two Disagrees EYYYY
Although I have yet to play the game I wasn't really impressed with the demo.
Got to agree.Needless to say i'm still getting it because the story seems fascinating.
Haha bubbles for you, made me laugh out.
Really mixed reviews for this game, it's probably one of those games you either love or hate...i'm sure i'll love it though :) 3 more days!
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/... For reference, this guy liked Heavy Rain. Theres no question that he understands what QD games set out to accomplish.
"despite its glaring flaws, despite a denouement that still has me shouting “WHY ANYTHING?!” at random passer-bys. Despite everything, I still enjoyed a great deal of my time with Beyond. I can’t promise you will feel the same, but I’d still encourage you to try. It’s a mess. But a fascinating mess."
I agree in regards to how it isn't better than heavy rain. Idk maybe it's just the way the story is structured. None less it's an alright game. Heavy Rain had a lot of flaws but the plot of the story was good and the fact that your choices actually made a difference made things a lot more interesting.
I guess Ellen Page picked the wrong game.
She's in the Last of Us. 1 out 2 ain't bad.
can't tell if serious
She was until she got replaced by Ashley Johnson which did amazingly well. Kinda sucked that the game you left behind proved to be one of the best game of all time while you go to another ok game...
No she isn't, she was left out, and she was butthurt..
Ellen Page was never part of The Last of Us. http://kotaku.com/famous-ac... "Page had no involvement in The Last Of Us whatsoever."
Well that made it even more painful.
5/5 PERIOD!!!! Some of these reviewers are missing the whole point of this game! They need to stick to shooters!
"YES! THEY'RE ALL STUPID MORONS WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN THIS ONE SPECIFIC GAME!!!!" Joking aside, you gotta calm down. It's just the reviewer's opinion and it's not the only average score the game's gotten so far.
Lol, you put up all caps and go on a rant fest and tell me i need to calm down? Man, WTF?
"THIS GAME IS PERFECT BECAUSE I SAID SO" You should hop off your high horse.
You spelled it wrong. Least you could do is spell it right when slamming a slogan.
Who asked you? Talk about getting off their high horse!
Most of the reviews i've seen were not a fan of David Cage's decision to jump around in Jodie's timeline. All that probably confused many of the reviewers in understanding what was going on in the story. The story in Beyond is probably really good when seen in linear way, but when that same story is bouncing around all over the place some of that aspect that made it good is lost in translation. That is why some reviewers say it is a mess. So in a way if David Cage decided to tell the story in Beyond in a linear way like most stories do the reaction to this game may be different.
Pulp Fiction, one of the most liked movies both by critics and normal people alike, had a similar structure and was praised by it. Because, despite everything, it had a consistent theme, a charming bunch of characters, and really good writing that left no loose ties nor plot holes. Beyond didn't. I'm sure the issue is not only that it's split in such a way, but it's done in a way that's completely ridiculous and absolutely silly. And bad writing doesn't help. Even if the story was set up in a linear way, it'd still have bad writing and goofy scenes.
The thing with Pulp Fiction is that it had the luxury of multiple characters to jump around. With Beyond it focuses on a single main character from early childhood to a young adult life which is much more difficult to tell. Look i haven't played Beyond yet & yes the story may be silly with bad writing. With Pulp Fiction the writer condensed the story into a 3 hour or so movie while with a game there will be filler cause the writer has to fill up close to 10 hours of content. There is no way that all of that 10 hours is filled with trash writing.
I have a feeling we will see crazy story telling like what we saw with Fahrenheit.
This game is so good! Seriously. Go buy it!
In what way? Sounds like most people who have played it and commented about it enjoyed it a lot.
What flop kid? 73 overall metacritic??BTW, Better to have a couple of exclusives, one of them being GOTY contender, than having NO exclusives the whole year. DAT XBONE THO...
Not sure what xbone has to do with this.
too bad they couldn't use Beyond zero anti aliasing this game is smothered in artifacts and jaggies so far story seems good, worth the $3 it cost me to rent at Blockbuster
i know alot of people that dont know how to play this game, so they are the ones giving it bad reviews because of their lack of understanding of the game mechanics.
