Killzone: Mercenary Review | Game Over

GO - "Let me start by saying I love my PS Vita, but occasionally I want to shoot stuff and that is where the Vita library has left me wanting more. You can make the argument that Uncharted: Golden Abyss works just fine in this regard, but it’s a third-person action adventure game, not a true first-person shooter." (Killzone Mercenary, PS Vita) 82/100

" it got shot down because people hating on the vita."

No doubt! All those hate filled fanboys felt the need to make sure it only got a 78 on Metacritic, which despite being 4 points under this score you called great... makes this game for whatever reason unsuccessful because of hate.

Fantastic logic!

similar hate to when the ps3 launched, well at least the hate it received from 2006-2009. ive had a ps3 since launch. i remember the hate it got like it was yesterday

@ SonyStyled

The thing is... I don't see any real "hate", which is why my reply was sarcastic.

- Almost every review was high. 54 reviews were over 71 (first one is 75), where as only 8 of the remaining 22 reviews were under 70.
- Several articles before and after document how it's the "best portable shooter to date".
- Stupid things like IGN's top 25 Vita games listed it as number like 12. Even though that list was stupid, they still felt the need to give it a MUCH higher score than say Gravity Daze (#25)
- Only 14 of the 170 fan reviews on Metacritic are under 70, with most of high ones starting at 8.
- I've yet to see anyone mention the game in terms of sales, which is a stark contrast to say The Wonderful 101, as that got several articles documenting it's poor sales.

The point being, I don't see this so called hate, nor can I find any "real" (I don't think every low score is done out of hate and some people just didn't care for it) or sizable example of this game getting hated. Much less because it's on the Vita.

I very much enjoy Killzone Mercenary. It's a fantastic game. I already got the Platnium and continue to play it. Maybe I'm just biased because I was such a huge fan of Killzone 2.

The only other gaming device I own outside the vita currently is my PC. It's pretty high end with 1440p res monitor (80% more than 1080p). It eats games up and while I have been playing a lot of BF4 beta on it, I still continue to play and enjoy Killzone on the Vita.

It's a replicated experience of Killzone on the consoles that holds pretty true in almost everything including the graphics. For some that hasn't had a ps3 in a while, it's nice.

I agree, Mdluffy, it represents a big leap forward for portable shooters.

^Don't mind this guy. He thinks he's smarter than everyone else. He isn't. :)

Sounds about right the score. I am on the 4th level though, it does seem like its truly geared as a portable game (short levels and not as deep story and the ones on the PS3)

I wouldnt say its SOOO freaking good but it is the best shooter on a portable to date.

I do not believe there is hate to the Vita directly but more that some ppl expected more from the vita (like it was gonna be liek a console replacement) far from it.

If I was buying a ps4, I'd be buying a PSVita and Killzone immediately. I'll just be getting an Xbox one for now, but maybe in a few years I'll buy a ps4.

A fair score for a good game

I wish it sold more. Its sales are extremely poor. It hurts our chances at getting a future title.

I dont agree with your statement, it sold more than 70.000 in less than a month (not including the digital downloads, which we dont know about and could be three times the number of the retail)

Killzone Mercenary is the best portable FPS game ever created... and honestly, quite possibly the best portable game period. No matter what your pick is, you have to agree it's in the running.
