Killzone: Shadow Fall devs rejected touch-sensitive DualShock 4 prototype

Killzone: Shadow Fall developer Guerrilla Games has discussed its role in helping Sony create the PS4′s new DualShock 4 controller with VG247. It was – at one point – touch sensitive – but the team didn’t like it. (Killzone: Shadow Fall, PS4)

I am so glad we won't have to hear about the input lag anymore. This game is really shaping up to be the best next gen release game. It is the only exclusive FPS releasing and the only one running 1080P. I cannot wait for this to release.

It's shaping up to be a great exclusive, I just hope it still feels unique from other shooters, that weighty feely made Killzone unique.

Personally, that 'weighty' feel put me off Killzone in terms of MP. I do understand the appeal though.

“One of the things we wanted to improve upon was the controllers. I personally feel that in previous Killzones, the DualShock was always good, but when you looked at other controllers they had an edge.”

I'm glad to see GG acknowledge the DS3's shortcomings, especially when compared to the Xbox 360 controller, even if some die-hard fans won't. Even DICE ripped into the DS3 and rightfully so.

Also, I like the fact that it appears that GG didn't feel the need to promote the touch-pad for the sake of it.

Its interesting to see just how instrumental FPS' were in determining the DS4's final form. The result is a much better DS4. Will people on here finally acknowledge the superiority of the 360 pad over the DS3, at least as far as FPS' are concerned?

I've always heard that the 360's controller was better for fps, then again the DS3 is better for fighting games. I don't really have a problem with the DS3 on both types of games, the only thing I didn't like about the DS3 was the triggers which can be addressed by buying a clip-on to raise the trigger height.

Dedicated servers too. And before ppl say its not true dedicated servers, bs..... they are dedicated servers and like most, if not all games with dedicated servers some things are handled local and others are handled server side, there will be no sever lag like P2P because the dedicated servers are handling the "network traffic between gamers"

It's great that the network data is being handled by the dedicated servers, but it's unfortunate that a 'session master' well be needed to handle some game logic. This means that cpu resources will have to be set aside on each device in case that user is chosen to be session master. It also means migration or session termination if the session master drops out, or lag if their connection slows down.

GGs approach is much better than p2p, but it doesn't have all the benefits of a traditional dedicated server setup.

In the end certain data is being transferred to paid "dedicated servers" this information has to do with network traffic which is the main cause of lag in P2p games, it is not the network traffic being passed froom host to other players, but from host to dedicated server and to other players thus not making it dependent on hosts isp speed or provider, eliminating issues when hosts has slow connection.

As for the session master issue, "only a very small portion of the game logic (i.e. mission/scoring logic) running on the ‘session master’" Again traffic, speed, latency handled by Dedicated servers.

Killzone has dedicated servers handling the network traffic which is what ppl worry about in terms of latency, lag, etc... because they do not want the Hosts connection directing network traffic which isnt the case here.

To be honest most games dedicated servers rubn in this fashion, it is just that GG is being transparent about it and no one ever goes into the logistics of dedicated servers because they don't need to.

My thoughts are GG this time around have a Game Engine highly tuned on Sonys new hardware straight out of the blocks....

KILLZONE SHADOW FALL is the only true next gen game FPS .. the others are a current gen game updated to next gen and this is a fact.

DS4 does sound exiting! To use..

And I can't wait to see GG new IP but I guess that's until next e3!
