The Donkey Kong delay has left a hole in the Christmas release schedule but can Wii U replicate 3DS's incredible 12 months next year?
It is going to be a great year depending how well Nintendo can spread the games. Please no more droughts. Wii U owners will be looking forward to play 1. Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze 2. Mario Kart 8 3. Bayonetta 2 4. X 5. Super Smash bros for Wii U. Plus more titles that have yet to be announced.
I agree. For me the end of this year and the start of next year is about Pikmin 3, Wonderful101, Zeda Windwaker HD, Sonic Lost World, Mario Kart, Mario 3D, Super Smash Bros, Pokémon X and X on the Nintendo Consoles. O and ive had to buy a 2DS for my other half as she is all over Animal crossing at the moment and I want my 3ds back for Pokémon lol.
Currently people are only talking about X1 and PS4, like WiiU doesnt even exist, but once both systems launch, the flames will rise even higher and WiiU will be left in smokescreen. #Truthfact
You're joking right?
I think they forgot to include the word "demise" at the end of the title.
Come on now, the Wii U has life. It has a fairly supportive market in the US, and you shouldn't count Nintendo out.
Only in your dreams, and sadly for you, this dream will never come true no matter how much you hope.
But what if it does.... Blackberry and their fans never thought it would happen to them, Nokia and its fans never thought it would happen to them, Sega and its fans never thought it would happen to them, Kodak and its supporters never thought it would happen to them, Symbian and its fans never thought it would happen to them and many other such companies. Fans never want to see the signs or admit it until it happens and they are left speechless. I am not saying that Nintendo is doomed this gen because they definitely have a monopoly in the handheld business that makes them a lot of money. However, saying that it will NEVER happen is wrong. Nobody and nothing lives forever. Death or demise can come at any moment to anybody.
@AsimLeonheart You just compared the mobile industry to gaming. Your argument is so fluttered. "But what if it does...." As long as Nintendo makes money, which in case you have not noticed they're actually pretty good at even when things look bleak, then it won't.
Same goes for Sony. The early ps3 years and vita cost of them Alot of money.
Actually, the least powerful and least expensive home video game console always wins it's generation. Ironic huh?
Nintendo will sell boat loads of pokemon x and y and will keep them afolt.
Am I the only one who doesn't seem to care about Pokemon? Just not my flavor I guess.
I can't see that happening to Nintendo. One thing they do have going for them is the focus on family oriented games. They make kid-friendly games and others that are also challenging. They've been around for 30 years by doing this when other game companies have come and gone. By doing so they keep themselves from getting into the big competition we see between Sony & MS - not to say they aren't competing on some levels.
(One hundred twenty four years actually!)
Well, they hardly have any new and mature IP's, mostly some kid-stuff.
Put it this way, 2014 is the year of great consoles... except for the X-Bone.
Implying that the Xbone is a great console...
I am looking forward to nintendos choices for wii u. When theyre cornered theyve produced some great content, in my opinion the gamecube is the best system they made since the snes, and i feel like a lot of choices made in the gamecube era were consumer based. its like they addresed criticisms like "no 3rd party (capcom deals, geist, eternal darkness, mgs, a lot of sega games, a lot of multiplats) and opened/bought western studios like retro. With a decent amount of 3rd party exclusives like 3 game deal with sega, 2 with platinum, 1 with atlus and more on the way i think they are on the same path, hopefully this time it yields more success.
I agree that the Gamecube is Nintendos best console since the SNES. I like the GC controller especially for RE4 Resident Evil REmake and of course Super Smash Bros. The Gamecube sold right at 22 million units in its lifetime, The original Xbox around 24 million and the PS2 well over 120 million. Im not sure if the Wii U will hit even 20 million total sales by the end of its run. For example even though a lot more people bought PS2 they still knew what a Nintendo Gamecube was and even what games were on it like Super Smash Bros. Even the Gamecube had more third party support when compared to the Wii U. The Wii U has no identity with the casual gaming public and is still confused with being an expensive Wii add on. I think the Wii U is a good console and I grew up playing Nintendo since the N.E.S. days but I think the Wii U will be Nintendos last home console. Nintendo will go strictly handheld and eventually they will put their IPs on both Microsoft and Sonys game machines. So let the disagrees flow in from the Nintendo faithful. This will happen. just give it a couple years ...or less.
you're delusional for thinking Nintendo will go third party
OH, you are so overdramatic!
I kind of agree with. If it wasn't for that wii controller gimmick, the wii would have failed and I'm not sure the wii u would have been created. I personally hate motion controller. That new tablet controller sounds like a waste of technology, I have a 60" TV but I will look into a small screen just to get rid of the select option menu, no thanks. Nintendo should turn back to running whore houses or become a 3rd party, they would get more money with one of those options.
if nintendo went handheld only then why would they bring their ips to the other consoles? I don't think that is going to happen, but it seems unlikely that Nintendo would bring their games back to a console atmosphere after moving away from it.
LoL the title is misleading. 2014 is the year of the ps4
Because of which games?
Let me correct you. It's the year of PS4 + Wii U. There, all better.
Bayonetta 2 only for me.
So the Wii U which was doing doing bad without competition will do better next year after two new consoles have launched? Somehow I doubt that...
It was doing bad without games, by 2014 it will have plenty of games.
And the competition won't?
Without competition? Without competition? Come on, they had the biggest competition. They had to compete with the huge install base of Xbox360 and PS3, since a lot of games were released on those 3 platforms and the Wii U couldnt show what it actually can do, because it only got xbox360 ports of games. As long as it gets these ports, why should anyone with a Xbox360 buy a Wii U, if not for some exculsive titles. AC3, NFS Most Wanted, Fifa, NBA 2k13 and Injustice all got released on all platforms and if you already bought a PS3 5 years ago, why should you buy a Wii U for no benefit from it? When next gen is released and next gen gets its next gen titles, then Wii U might get next gen ports, which Xbox360 and PS3 wont get and then is the time for Wii U, because all new consoles will have a relatively small install base at the beginnning, even with those record pre orders of the PS4. Sony aims for 5 million ps4s sold at the end of this year, thats only 5 million compared to what numbers of PS3? What is the benefit of a PS4 over a PS3, if it gets the same game, other than better graphics? Same goes for Wii U. The problem in the industry is, that Devs still support old PS3 and Xbox360 and that will also be a huge problem for PS4 and Xbox1.
Very well said. I keep reading that when Xbone and PS4 are released they're going to sell millions (which it's true they will), tons will have them and games are going to be released that will make gamers want to go get one BUT you raised another point - why bother spending all that money at the start of a console's life when we all know there WILL be issues and updates and all that fun stuff when games are going to be released on PS3 and 360 possibly for years to come. Where's the incentive? Wii U sold 3 million copies right off the bat but didn't have the games AND games pretty much were not being released on Wii. That is not the case going forward for Sony & MS. They're may make it harder for smaller developers too as they may not be able to make PS3/360 ports if the Xbone/PS4 games are really expensive. Time will tell what the market is like. In any case they have to be able to maintain sales - and while they're potentially having a lull between game releases after launch Wii U is going to be flooded with tons of new big games that people have been waiting on!
isn't the Wii U a next gen console?it shouldn't be competing with 7-8 year old consoles.
@D_RoyJenkins It competes with every console, which has the same games on it, doesnt matter if the system is 7 years old. If you buy a game, you buy it for 1 console and not for 2-3 consoles, what is the point of doing that? This is also why PS4 and Xbox1 will have to compete with PS3 and Xbox360 sales wise. Take Call of Duty Ghost for example. It will come out for PS3 and PS4, but if you have a PS3 and bought COD Ghost, it is unlikely, you buy a PS4 for COD Ghost then. Normally nobody would buy the same game again, in the case of COD Ghost they offer you options for getting the PS4 version, if you bought the PS3 version, but I believe everybody gets the point I am trying to make. Simply put, if a system has the same game as your system, then your system competes against that system, because normally you will only buy the game for one system. If you follow that logic and put aside, that this is new hardware and the other one is old hardware, does that really matter if a console is considered next gen, if it offers the same games as the current gen?
Of course Wii U is competing with 7 year old consoles. The other next-gen systems are not out yet. Don't kid yourself in thinking that PS4/Xbone won't also be competing with 7 year old consoles. They will for sure as PS3/360 will still be promoted and have new games for them for years to come. PS4 and Xbone will be competing with them as Sony & MS try to convince current owners to switch. Once those come out the competition will be between Sony's 2 systems, MS's 2 systems and Nintendo.
The difference is the games will be higher quality on PS4/XB1. Once 3rd party devs slow down support for last gen platforms the PS4 and XB1 will really take off, the Wii U will be the odd one out
So you say, if you have a good working system, that runs COD Ghost very well, you still buy a $400 console, just to get the better graphics, even though you know the price might fall after 1 1/2 years and you would be able to play the same games, only with graphics worse? Gameplay-wise you get the same game. Higher quality means better graphics, nothing else. If 10 million people buy COD Ghost, then only a few will get a new system ust for that, if their system, they own, already is capable of running the game at full speed. When PS3 and Xbox360 dont get new games, then Wii U gets ports of Next Gen titles and that will actually show, what the console can do. This is what Nintendo is aiming for, the time where people feel the need to switch to next gen, to be able to play newer games, then people have to look see for themselves, what fits best and if Wii U does it all right and doesnt lose 3rd party support after this holidays, but gains more 3rd party support, people will choose the cheapest way, with the best first party titles, which is Wii U. But as I said, for that Nintendo has to hold its 3rd Parties or win them back, as you wanna call it, wait until Nintendo released their top notch first party line up, if it is a success, it will gain 3rd party support, if it gains third party support, then people most likely will choose Wii U over the others, if you like it or not, but the money will make the decision easy.
@chrischi finally someone that is thinking. Ps4 and xb1 is not all that exciting at the moment. But Alot of people here do not see that because they fall for the marketing hype. Especially with ps4.
@chris you put too much faith in Nintendo's first party IPs. The GameCube had Mario, Zelda, smash bros, metroid, Mario kart and still was obliterated by the PS2
No, its just hard to judge the systems potential lifetime sales when it has sold the way it has because there ARE no games. Now that games are coming, is when we really see how many people will get a wii u.
2014 will be a better year for nintendo that's for sure. With upcoming games like mario kart and DK, +others will surely sell consoles
The Wii U has suffered without games, no denying that one, but games are coming from now to end of the year and into 2014. While some multiplayer games are coming for Wii U it's not exactly a direct competitor for Xbone & PS4. Nintendo is aimed more at families and kids (and always has been) than the other two which is not a bad thing at all. PS & Xbox have many of the same types of games and loads that come out for both. Nintendo has a ton of exclusives and IPs found nowhere else on consoles. It's true they need more IPs and are trying with Bayonetta 2, 3 exclusive Sonic games, Wonderful 101 and others we probably haven't heard of yet. Nintendo is often a companion console in homes that also have a PS or Xbox and that will probably continue with this next-generation. If it does the point is it will sell units when the next Zelda, Smash Brothers, Mario 3D, Mario Kart, X, Bayonetta 2 etc come out this year and into 2014. With that will come more games. One thing we can all agree on though is Nintendo needs to step it up and advertise! I'm sure we'll see that as Christmas nears and the other next-gen consoles ramp up ads.
2014 is going to be an interesting year cuz all the consoles are going to be out and we will be clear picture of which console will dominate.
Smash and Mario Kart 8. REAL system sellers. 2014 will in fact be the Wii U's year
PS4 & Wii U will rule 2014 I wouldn't be surprised if the xbone struggles for the next 2 year's
Im sure titanfall and halo 5 will give xbone a boost.
Actually - can't delete what i was trying to say.
it'd be cool to see a Metroid or Earthbound title for the Wii U. as far as sports games go, i'd like to see FIFA, NBA 2K and a baseball game!!
