While Sony is going to be publishing Cross Generation digital titles (Hohokum for example is on PS4 and PS3, as well as PS Vita), it appears as though they won’t be doing the same for retail titles. - PSLS
Good, more than enough 3rd parties doing that, I want games to take full advantage of the PS4
Exactly. Would waste half or a portion of a dev team optimising for the PS3, might as well go full steam ahead on the newer platform.
I'm glad to hear this and already had a feeling it would be true based on the games they've shown so far. Knack, Infamous SS, Killzone, DriveClub, The Order, none of them are cross-gen retail titles. None of their AAA titles will be held back because of having to cater to a current gen port. At the same time they still continue to support the PS3 with games. I'm really excited about the PS4 so I'm glad to see they won't be holding back the potential for any of their big PS4 releases. "Also, at least in the UK, you can expect the second PS4 shipment to be “within days” of launch on November 29th." If this is true it's newsworthy all on its own. Sony needs to have a steady flow to support the high-demand and it would be great if they can keep up the pace throughout the end of the year.
What does this mean???
Even without cross platform titles, it can't be argued that PS3 is getting more support than any of its current gen rivals.
Can't complain, bring me more PS4 games!
To see what all Playstation exclusive devs will be able to achieve on PS4... I can't even fathom it!
we are not ready for ND and SSM next gen games
no one is not trying to get a heart attack so fast in life.
I don't see that as a problem. Still curious on what they are doing with the Last Guardian because they are not commenting on which platform the game is being developed for.
In a very recent interview, the one where Shuhei "blamed" Jack Tretton for the misinterpretation about the game being on hold, he mentioned that the team is currently busy "re-engineering" the game. Now I don't know about you, but that only means one of two things to me. They either are re-writing the engine or porting the game to PS4, and I can't see them re-writing the engine at this point for any reason other than the game being on PS4.
It will definitely be a PS4 game. They had technical difficulties with the PS3, and that's why it's taking too long, so it's not hard to realize that they better architecture of the PS4 will help them release the game.
Think how restricted the devs would be now on the PS3, when there is a much easier platform to transfer it too with updated specs. It will be a PS4 title for sure, would seem silly to do otherwise!
If this does come out for the PS4 how much copies will it need to sell to break even? I am asking becuase this game has been in development for so long and they will need to optimize the engine for the PS4 which cost money.
There goes those hopes for GT6 PS4, GT7 it is for them instead afterall...
Wouldn't really expect them to, with GT6 being the one and only exception.
that's fine. Just decide what you're gunna do with TLG and let us know.
most likely it'll be a PS4 title.
Yet another bad move by Sony that the Sony fanboys will still bend over and act like is a good idea.
Making cod ghost on current generation benefited the next generation version ?. No . Instead of focusing on making the best game they can and try to wow us they make games based on this generation to get more money . Same goes for all cross generation games. I respect sony more by doing this move. They are doing many good decisions. But i have some issues with them though :) . They are not perfect but this is good for us.
Regardless whether it is a good or bad idea sony stick to their guns and have been very truthful and straight forward recently and this is their way of saying if you want the exclusives then get a ps4. Why fuel any form of fanboyism you sound very silly.
Kinda like when xbox fanboys bent over and acted like the MS drm thing was a good idea lol. On a serious note why do you think this is a bad idea with over a mil in pre orders in U.S and U.K the ps4 already has a nice size user base and it isn't even out yet so I don't think they will have a problem selling games. I think it is about time they did this one of the reasons I think ps3 started out with very little games is because they was still trying to do stuff for ps2.
It's only bad if they stopped making PS3 games all together. Doesn't look like that's happening. (Buying Beyond next week). There is no way this is a bad idea and there is no way to spin it that way.
Yes cause Micro$haft dropping most 1st party support for the 360 in 2012 was just so much smarter...And the 0 1st party games they have planned after the One80 releases woo hoo. Micro$haft are just F'n Geniuses....Idiot
how about mlb the show u mean they are dropping ps3 support?
they will keep supporting ps3 with multiplat games for more years to come but most of 1st party titles will only be on ps4
So Sony is dropping all 1st party retail support for the ps3 or just games that will appear on both consoles?
Just the latter, there's still other first party titles to come out on PS3 after PS4 launches.
IF I remember well it was ND that told that they are not yet done with the ps3!They are a Sony first party.
I think GT6 comes out after the PS4 is released actually, I think that's the last exclusive for the year. I'm backlogged as it is, urgh.
Don'w worry. PS3 will not be ignored. Just like PS2 in PS3 era.
so probably no chance of Beyond on ps4 then, even if its only retail games, Heavy rain never went digital and Beyond is not set for a digital release either
The early games won't do much anyways. They are basically just porting the stripped down ones over. The only exception is really Battlefield 4 upping the player count. Everything else is just updated textures and specs. Thats why you "get" the new version for 10 dollars, you are basically just buying the same game.
From now on, I'm reporting that Dante waste up there as Spam. The good thing about this is that it keeps exclusives as exclusives on each respective console. Which means more individual reasons to purchase each one.
