Mike Bithell: "Sony Showed Up To The Party Early"

Dealspwn's Matt Gardner asked indie game designer Mike Bithell exactly why Sony have become the clear choice for so many indie devs out there at EGX this year. (PS Vita, PS3, PS4, Sony)

I wouldn't say that Sony showed up early, I would say Sony threw the party

did someone say bchs?
Gamingcapacity  +   602d ago
An MS is the guy that drank to much and threw up everywhere? lol jk

To my understanding MS supported indies better than the PS3 with the 360. The problem is that MS offer a great platform for indies with the X1 but Sony were quick to get to them with the PS4 before MS. This is what Mike is referring to and we will probably see MS catch up on the indies front down the line.

It's great news for the indie scene

well many people seem to ignore playstation Home for a platform for indies when talking about both companies supporting indie developer's and without taking into account playstation Home , they are ignoring a very large indie platform on playstation. right now there are over 600+ games on playstation Home all from indie developer's inside playstation Home. Than of course you have playsttation Mobile as also another platform, Playstation Mini's for indie developer's. that is before getting to playstation 3 games themselves.

i would say its closer than what many think, and as a matter of fact Sony just may edge out Microsoft due to having more than just one system for indie developers to make games for. in this part of the Market.

@All WEll it's clear what the people in the know like and think, however It'll be interesting to see what the important people think.

By that I mean the casual gamers.
Gamingcapacity  +   601d ago

Never really thought of it like that but you are right. Didn't realise that there were 600 games within Home.
ThanatosDMC  +   601d ago

Didnt indie devs comment on how badly they were treated by MS plus the fees just to patch their games?
Gamingcapacity  +   601d ago
@DMC Johnathan Blow has something against MS. Even though they were put his game (Braid) onto console first. I wonder what they did to him?

I have to disagree.

Like a lot of people, I think the "Xbone" has the far better lineup.

PS4 is the developer's choice and the gamer's choice this time around. Some people won't like that, but I say, you have to face the music sooner or later. And denial is a sad and worthless trait.

Sony understands and treats developers well by default. They got in touch with their developers to have input into their console and build it taking in mind, their specification. They did the same with their new controller. Their policies from day zero were clear and welcoming and they got in touch with talent and showed their interest in original ideas, like they have been doing for some years now, but amplified. For a more significant target console.

All the while, Microsoft was planning on how to control and manipulate their audience with anti-consumer policies, and they aren't even releasing any indie games until some time in 2014. Why should so many policy changes be required? it's an unprecedented number.

And then some bastard pulled out a gun and shot up the place. Goes to show you that console folks don't know how to have fun.
