Read article before you post anything.

Sony is centered on the consumer.
Not trying to get DRM restrictions nor having a kinect spy camera watch you all the time, tough Yoshida himself only said they were focused on the gamers while the editor added the DRM + Kinect.

I get it Microsoft, you are removing the mandatory kinect because people don't want to get spied at from inside their homes.

But that simply means that indeed people that do uses the Kinect will get spied on and the only way not to be spied on is to not plug in the kinect in.

Couldn't you just not support PRISM in the first place as far as the Xbox One is concern?
You're still selling the kinect bundled, it has some features people may be into but won't because of privacy issues.

I don't see a lot of people plotting terrorist attacks while playing Xbox One and if so, how would you make the difference between a real terrorist plot and people playing Call of Duty?
You can't. The way PRISM works is that it's based off words like "Bomb" or "explosion" and that could be just about any military shooter out there.

@UlimateMaster, don't "bate" me... So you don't like Microsoft and think that Sony are Beautiful wonderful people, cool!!. I think both companies are cool, though I'll be the Xbox One cos it's cooler for me.

If people wat to spy on me and my man in the livingroon "doing the bad thing" then great. I don't give a sh!t.

Since you're not buying one neither should you...yet you do...I wonder why?
UltimateMaster  +   347d ago | Well said
@Gekko36
Because the majority of people don't want to be spied on.
A lot of people aren't interested in the kinect and would want an Xbox One without it.

And it's not a question of doing bad things or not, it's your personal life, your privacy.
If you want to throw that away for the sake of being a fanboy, good for you, but guess what? Many other people don't want that.

They make petitions against S.O.P.A. because they don't want that sh!t.

He's pointing out his opinion and what the article said. Also, what makes you think that it's just going to be the government that spies on you? Microsoft and Sony has been hacked before. What makes you think people won't try to hack the kinect to get information from you (identity theft). Doesn't the kinect have a microphone?

@UltimateMaster LoL!! As long as you have an IP Address, Big Brother is always watching. It's just not for Kinect. It can be the camera on your PC/Laptop/Tablet. It can be the information on your smartphone. Hell, people can hack into the camerea on your Smart TV now. The Gov't only wants people who are a risk against national security. And stop just saying MS. MS & Google teamed up to sue the Government for more privacy for consumers. Hit the link below to the IGN article.

Remember it was the US that created the internet. And they gonna justify the means when it comes to National Security.
Godmars290  +   347d ago
MS still wants to "spy on people" but it has little to nothing to do with SOPA or PRISM. They want to monetize the time you spend using the XB1 selling it off not the government but other companies in the name of ad revenue. That's why Kinect has been forced included though supposedly no longer needed, yet most if not everything for the XB1 has been tailored to include it. Things are still "better w/Kinect".

"Yoshida said. “We want consumers to look at how much fun it is to use this system, not just for playing games but for finding out about games and sharing the experience with other people."

This is a huge factor for me. Being able to seamlessly watch a friend play any game they've decided to live stream, jump into the game at a really fast speed and even playing a game as it downloads/before it's finished downloading.
I love the social aspect of following popular streamers and easily seeing game play of the games I might be interested in. All from the comfort of my gaming console. It's funny because it caters to my interest/wish/desire and it also helps Sony as a form of game advertisement. Watching people play is a way of letting a game sell itself. So many times I see what my friends on PS3 are playing and wish I could just pop in and view what they're doing, especially if it's a game I don't have.

What is ironic is the people saying "MS spying" are the same ones with laptop, tablet or smart phone camera. All those devices, right now has apps that infect your device and opens up the camera for real spying.

In many cases, these spying of infected machines results in blackmail and even suicide.

Here is an article just this early May about it:

"Meet the men who spy on women through their webcams"

http://arstechnica.com/tech...

The vast majority isn't concerned there, but somehow they are so concerned about MS console which is a closed platform.

Please bring your altruism to where it matters and let us others that don't want your "goodwill" to ruin our fun.

By the way, Kinect has a microphone, maybe it is trying to spy on you by listening? /sarcasm

"What is ironic is the people saying "MS spying" are the same ones with laptop, tablet or smart phone camera. All those devices, right now has apps that infect your device and opens up the camera for real spying."

Your remote viewing capabilities are truly astounding, to be sure. Who cares about Kinect when apparently nukeitall can see right into our homes with no hardware assistance whatsoever!

There's no camera on my laptop. There's no camera connected to my PC. I don't own a tablet. My phone (that stares at the inside of my pocket) is a BlackBerry, which has notoriously good security. Not everyone so willingly surrenders themselves to the surveillance state.

Of course, those are all false equivalencies on a number of different levels, but the naive and/or apathetic swing them around like trump cards.

Doesn't really matter what I think, though, since the XBL EULA *admits* that Kinect is and/or can be used to spy on you. The current XBL EULA includes the following. Keep in mind that the term "Services" will cover a much broader spectrum with the One.

"If you use ... Kinect, we may also collect data about the way in which you interact with the console and the Services to improve Microsoft products and services."

...and this:

"Personal information collected by Microsoft may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country or region in which Microsoft or its affiliates, subsidiaries, or service providers maintain facilities. You consent to any such transfer of information outside of your country or region."

...and of course:

"we may access or disclose information about you, including the content of your communications, in order to: (a) comply with the law or respond to lawful requests or legal process; (b) protect the rights or property of Microsoft or our customers, including the enforcement of our agreements or policies governing your use of the Services; and (c) act on a good faith belief that such access or disclosure is necessary to protect the personal safety of Microsoft employees, customers, or the public."

All of these terms subject to the interpretation of MS/govt lawyers. At least we can sleep sound in the knowledge that multinational corporations and government never abuse their powers or the public trust... right?

It's not like Caspar Bowden knows WTF he's talking about... right?

Also bear in mind that Microsoft, one of the principle creators of Prism stated they would vigorously fight any attempt by government agencies to utilize Kinect for spying. That very statement is an admission such illegal information gathering is possible.

You’re right but this title will guarantee hits for the site.

Shuhei Yoshida doesn’t even mention the Xbox.

“We continue to say what we've been saying since February - PS4 is really designed for consumers and focused on how people want to play games. At the same time, we've really made sure that it's hardware which game developers will enjoy making games on,” Yoshida said. “We want consumers to look at how much fun it is to use this system, not just for playing games but for finding out about games and sharing the experience with other people.

“Of course, we have large studios, Sony Worldwide Studios creating exclusive titles for PS4, as well as what is, for me, one of the most exciting aspects of PS4 - the amount of indie people who have expressed interest and are already making games for PS4, as well as PS Vita. The ease of use, the performance... It's very powerful hardware. We believe this is the most powerful console ever made. The content, the games available, the usage of PS4 surrounding games... That's the message we've been communicating, and we'll continue to do that.”

Can anyone spot where the Xbox is mentioned?

I'm waiting for one of these so called "journalists" to ask him or a SONY in house dev: "when are you going to let us play a game that demonstrates the power of the PS4"?

Killzone:SF doesn't have "campaign" co-op, it's single player, horde mode co-op is a side mission download you have to pay extra for.
And, Killzone:SF doesn't do both:
1080p "native" @ 60fps in sp or multi...its either they do one or the other.

Drive Club
You're racing against friggin "ghost cars, And, DC isn't 1080p "native" @ 60fps.

So, where's all this power?

If someone says PS4 can do both in any mode, please provide a link
T2  +   347d ago
ghost cars? LOL what the hell are you talking about the whole idea of the game is to create clubs and race online... hence the name..

"Sony has posted a trio of videos from Gamescom of its upcoming PlayStation 4 racer DriveClub in action, running at something "closer to" the game's native 1080p resolution.
"In the first video, rival Clubs faced each other over the duration of Gamescom, and racers were able to align themselves with one in order to score points with their performance. Even though the team of Evolution's community development manager Jamie Brayshaw wasn't "the fastest overall, [they] earned the most fame points to win the challenge." So the video plays out with his club "Like A Boss" ultimately victorious."

I've seen several Drive Club videos and it's either ghost cars or nothing.

They continue to tell us how powerful the PS4 is, its time to show us. Drive Club should be both:
1080p "native" @ 60fps No Excuses!
DigitalRaptor  +   347d ago
@ otherZinc

1) You're admitting you were wrong about native 1080p then? If you can't get that right, how can you expect anyone to take your garbage seriously?

2) Are you really that dense to think that DriveClub is not going to have actual cars to race against? I'm literally lost for words that you believe that. It's a social racer, how can there be no people to race against????? Man..... You are watching the driving being demonstrated in a game called DriveClub. Drive = driving. Club = a group of people racing.

3) PS4 is more powerful than your favourite next gen console. It's factual. Microsoft PR have already attempted to convince you otherwise, but everyone with half a brain knows it. Launch games have never been an indicator of how powerful a console is, at least I've never seen so.

4) DriveClub has dynamic systems that a 1080p @ 60fps Forza 5 doesn't. Real time lighting, non-baked, dynamic weather systems, day / dusk / night racing, environments that are modelled as more than just skyline eye-candy. There's more going on in DriveClub than you'd like to bother looking into, and ironically, your excuse is "no excuses".

Funny.

Sony has been there and done that with most of their first party games having dedicated servers this gen like Starhawk, Warhawk, , Resistance mlb the show and many others but no one even noticed or batted an eye. Killzone Shadowfall doesn't have real dedicated servers. Overall. Xbox live has been the better choice for multiplayer gaming this gen, and is getting better next gen. Psnetwork is decent, but I've had many problems with it in the past. I'm going with Xbox one for the multiplayer aspects of the system. Ps4 will be better for people that enjoy Sony games, and generally anybody who doesn't like Halo. Both systems have pros and cons, but Xbox one appeals to me more.

so you believe a camera connected is a threat? do you imagine how many people would be necessary to verify all uploaded contente just to find someone potentially dangerous? do you even know every time you type the words terrorism, bomb, massacre or try to download ilicit contente, your isp may or will give your IP to authorities, because they are engaged to by most governments. its all ridiculous those sony claims, and i surely should work for MSFT cause i would crush SONY on that

Ever hear of these neat things called "computers?" They're getting pretty good at parsing sigint without much human interaction. Quantum computers are being put to this task as well.

I have yet to see one instance of a Kinect being used to spy on anyone. And for all of you worried about being spied on, what exactly are you doing that you're worried about? Cooking meth? Whacking off? Beating your wife/kids/dog/etc.?
Hicken  +   347d ago
Don't be an idiot. We get spied on just for searching the internet. If people- the government, or hackers, or whoever- wanted to spy on us using the Kinect, you bet your ass they'd do it.

Whether I'm doing something wrong or not, I'd rather not give anybody the chance to just view my bedroom or living whenever they wanted without my permission. ESPECIALLY in its original form, the XB1 was poised to allow just that; now that online connection is no longer mandatory, that's changed somewhat. SOMEWHAT.

But the company behind that idea is still backing that console, so it's not unreasonable to believe that what nearly happened could still come to pass.

So, instead, I'LL pass.
hankmoody  +   347d ago
No s**t we're getting spied on. I can't even go on a website without seeing ads for things I looked at on Amazon the day before. We're ALL being watched in some way, shape or form. I'm not saying it's an impossibility that it can happen with the Kinect but what the hell do I care if they want to watch me? Especially since I'm getting watched regardless? Anyone concerned about Kinect spy tactics should just chuck their smartphones if that's the case and get rid of their computers. But we all know THAT won't happen.
Hicken  +   347d ago
Ah, the smartphone defense.

You know why that doesn't work? Because it doesn't watch your whole room. No, I have nothing in particular to hide, but I'd prefer to minimize the invasions of privacy I go through.

I don't get this mentality that "Well, it's already happening, so what do I care if it happens some more?" That makes it okay?

People are committing crimes, so what does it matter if there's some new way to do it? Might as well just let it happen, right?

You can do things on your end to significantly lower the ability of third parties to track you when you use your computer, and even your smartphone, though to a lesser extent.

What can you do for your video game console?

Does it not strike you as more than just coincidence that the NSA issue, mandatory Kinect, and forced online DRM all happened at once? That they promoted the Kinect's ability to create targeted ads says they'd be spying on you, to some extent; that Microsoft preemptively handed over the keys to software to the NSA didn't look good as a follow-up(though I think that actually happened before, and we just found out later).

We can- kinda- say "Crisis Averted" since the online is no longer a requirement, but only just. Honestly, I'd rather not put myself in such a situation.

Once bitten, twice shy, as they say. Microsoft is gonna have to prove to me that they deserve my trust, and my money.
XboxFun  +   347d ago
"Microsoft is gonna have to prove to me that they deserve my trust, and my money."

MS will never prove anything to you because you are so adamant on denying everything they have to offer.

So please stop this stupid nonsense that you will ever get a Xbox One or a 360. I have seen you say you want MS to provide more exclusives to justify your purchase, they have, I have read from you that you don't want pay for online play, but now Sony has it so that excuse is gone. Now you have another excuse as to why you won't get a Xbox.

How many excuses do you need instead of just saying you are not interested in it. That would be the honest and more upstanding approach to go instead of spewing this bull everytime.
hankmoody  +   347d ago
Dude, it's obvious there's nothing that can be said much less done to help you gain trust in MS or to give them your money. Like XboxFun said, just say you're not interested, you'd come off as much less of a paranoid person.

Damn man, I feel sorry for you. I don't know how your parents failed you so bad, but you are a site to see homie. If you put the effort behind anything that you put into hating MS on N4G, you'd be a success in whatever it was guaranteed. Why do you feel it’s up to you to let everyone know Sony’s better than MS? I mean why do you feel your opinion is SO important that you have to blast MS in every article, every day? I mean there is so much IMPORTANT bad stuff happing all over the world daily, but to you this is important enough to sink ALL your time into. Man this shit isn’t that big a deal, get out and look around you.

The Kinect for the Xbone was originally a requirement. And you can't turn off the microphone, without turning off the Kinect. Now, ask yourself why, they did that in the first place?

If not for spying, then it's for data mining to basically make money at your expense. For instance, the Xbone Dashboard was built with advertising in mind. http://www.sticktwiddlers.c...

That's disturbing enough. Your console is no longer YOUR console, at least as far as Microsoft is concerned.

So basically, the anti-consumer measure behind Kinect was that it would listen to your speech to gather keywords to be able to customize advertisements on your dashboard, so Microsoft could make money from you whilst you viewed personalised adverts, no choice in it, but to unplug your camera.

This is still a reality, seeing as though Kinect is still going to be connected to your console. Who wants that in their house, and who wants to support a corporation that not only was planning to do that on a mass scale with a once forced peripheral, but are still doing that on a lesser scale?

Let's also not forget Microsoft's history of privacy invasion. Hint: it wasn't a one-off.

I get that a lot. "You were never gonna get one, anyway." Funny thing is: it's always from some Microsoft fanboys who are super quick to point out how they have no interest in anything Sony.

Hm. Imagine that.

See, I was looking at the upcoming gen as a fresh start. Not quite a clean slate, but still a chance for everybody to pass or fail all over again. My problem with Microsoft has always been their greedy policies and willingness to shaft their customers for a profit.

When it came to the reveal of the XB1, I was hoping to see a refocused Microsoft. I didn't believe the rumors; I thought they'd come out swinging, heavy on the games, focused on the core. After all, literally everybody knew how stupid the company would have to be to go through with what those rumors stated... and then they did it.

And continued to do so.

And every time they got themselves a little bit of positive press, they did or said something negative to cancel that little bit of momentum out. I'm certainly willing to give MS my money if they show themselves to be heading down a path in gaming that I agree with. I don't have any problem doing that for any of the companies. But Microsoft fails at that.

You guys wanna support em? Do your thing. I choose to be a bit more careful with my money than that.

Edit: I'm amazed. How did you know what I was doing all gen? I've been on the site for just over two years, but you know what I've been doing all gen. Do you stalk me in real life like you do on this site?

Please, point to my comments "in the beginning of the PS3." Oh, shit. I wasn't around. I was playing my PS2 and PSP. Didn't have a PS3 until 2008. And when did I join this site? Hmm... your bullshit doesn't add up.

Oh, and I WAS interested, regardless of what you THINK. DO you think? Cuz your comments are so inane I feel compelled to ask that question.

Don't bother me, child.

I think you are missing the point that EVERYONE seems to be getting.

You where never interested in Xbox PERIOD.

You bad mouthed 360 this whole gen, you attacked anyone who said anything negative about Sony, and now you are attacking Xbox One.

Remember how Sony was getting a lot of bad press in the beginning of the PS3. You were in full defense mode then. Protecting them from anyone who said anything negative about sony. You also went so far as to blame all of media for Sony's woes.

But now, even with all the reversals that MS has done in order to correct their admitted mistakes, even after they have shown impressive and promising exclusives, even now that PS+ also requires a fee to play online, you are still on this ride that MS must still prove something to you.

Even after blown out stories like FCC report, huma and a low poly for Ryse that actually improved performance. You were right there bad mouthing MS and it's games. Even went as far as to call KI "paltry". (I can only imagine if someone said that about any Sony game how you would react)

You see how absolutely silly you sound and why the posters on top see right through you.

As I and many others before have said. You were never interested or intended to get a Xbox One. So stop that nonsense of asking MS to prove anything to you.

Nobody cares about games or online it seems, just powa! Even if that only means just a couple of extra frames or pixels.

I could understand the excitement if the differences in hardware capabilities were like comparing the PS4 to the 360 but it's not. Besides, the X1 arguably has the best line-up of games so far and MS has significantly improved it's already stellar online service while the PS4 is finally getting cross game chat.

Most gamers care about the games and online anyway because that is where the fun actually is.

Game developers spy on you including Sony. That's just a fact. The know were you by gas and food, your legal drugs and you porn just about everything you do is known by anybody with money who wants to find out. They know how many times you hit a button on a controller to do something in a game. These privacy nuts who want to be left alone need to move to the woods and hide. And I'm not advocating this is right; that its just a fact of our digital life now.
