Why Assassin's Creed always launches last on PC

Historically, Assassin's Creed games have launched for PC several weeks, sometimes months, after the console versions hit store shelves. This is because the PC version of each game has always been the last version the team at Ubisoft Montreal works on, Assassin's Creed 4 lead designer Jean-Sebastien Decant told Polygon.

For "piracy" reasons? See what I did there?

Cause making the superior version of the game takes time and it gives people playing it on consoles time to beta test it.

Way to name virtually the only exception. And even that is a matter of opinion. It still LOOKS the best on PC in any case.

All of the Assassin's Creed games are far better on the PC.

The Witcher 2, Crysis, Half Life 2, Portal all launched on PC first then came to consoles. I have Assassin's Creed 2 on PC apart from the graphics its the same game. You can't even mod it. Plus the ps3 version of Assassin's Creed 3 and the ps4 version of Assassin's Creed 4 have extra missions that the PC isnt getting.

Was that why Diablo 3 released on PC first?

ZBlacktt1691d ago

So that's why they've been show casing it around the world all year long on a PS4. Ok....

grassyknoll1691d ago

No offend, but PC games are far more likely to be broken / glitchy due to the many manyhardware variations. That's a fact. I have dozens of games (including GTA IV & Crysis) that are unplayable & I have to start again because of glitches/bugs. This is the biggest barrier to PC gaming.

Ubisoft Montreal is one of the biggest developers in the world. I don't see why they can't work on different platforms simultaneously.

CrossingEden1691d ago

They ARE. You think they make the pc port in months?

Pandamobile1691d ago

They said right in the article that they make one master version first before really working on any of the other platforms.

gamernova1691d ago

I have come to terms with this. At least they do not have the audacity to sell it for full price.

It's been a sad time for PC gaming, getting late ports from underpowered systems. At least AC always looks alot better on PC than on console.
I really hope the situation improves now with the new gen being x86 and everything. But depending on how well they implement the map and stuff on the WiiU gamepad, i'll be getting alot of these up and coming titles for the WiiU anyway.

starchild1691d ago

Oh boo hoo I have to wait a couple weeks longer to get a superior version. It still comes out before the XB1 version anyway.

I've never understood why some people make a big deal about these kinds of things. I have such a huge backlog of games I usually don't have time to jump right into every new game anyway.

clouds51691d ago

Yeah it's the same for me :) I almost never get games on day one. In alot of cases I even wait till the price gets reduced. I don't care about the time, I care about the quality. But it sucks if you have the technically superior system (PC) but you get a 360-ish looking game for which you have to wait longer and even has bugs in it (GTA IV....).

reading is fun

Enjoy your inferior versions of games...Well maybe the got the texture loading issues from AC 3 and the insanely awful port of Arkham City cleared up....Thats OK most people don't find it that difficult to hit select to look at their map

clouds51691d ago

@Deadpoolio: What are you talking about? AC3 and Arkham City ran without any issues on my WiiU.

I personally hate having to go into a menu for the map everytime in open world games. Usually there is even a 2-3 second delay when you go into the menu. You look at that map ALOT in those games and i get taken out of the experience.
I don't know if you have a WiiU but you have to try this before you believe it i guess. It's a major step forward especially for open world games.
