The Nintendo Direct for October was actually promising on many levels, especially for the ailing Wii U. In particular, Satoru Iwata’s presentation of Super Mario 3D World was compelling.
It looks great - can't wait to play it!
It's a GAME not an App. App's are those things that distract you on your phone. This is Wii U's Killer Video Game. Once again......it's not an application, it's a game.
u got that straight 6-7-8
I love how people associate "apps" with smartphones now. As if it has some significant meaning. App is short for Application. Your internet browser is an app. Your text editor is an app. Your development tools are apps. Games ARE applications. Just not in the traditional sense as the pieces of software mentioned above. web definition: "A program or piece of software designed and written to fulfill a particular purpose of the user" People really thrive on hijacking words. Same happened to the word "Hardcore".
@ChickeyCantor not really program for pc and apps for cellphones either way it sounds silly to say app for a pc program right away without pause when people say app its assumed they are talking about a cellphone app maybe back in the day with aol and the internet + pcs being new but in 2013 apps usually are associated with smartphones
Program and app(APPLICATION) are synonymous in this case. You can spin it all you want but they mean the same thing. Like I said app is short for application. The only reason people associate app with smartphones is because the word is constantly thrown at consumers. That does not change the significance of the word. Within the operating system of a smartphone pieces of software are referred to as apps. How is this different from software on a pc? Skype or dropbox are apps for example. In a sense games are still applications, they are software with a specific goal to the end user. To entertain.
De faaaaak is a wee u? Do you want me to grab my old flopdog and wii on it? Or maybe just one of these http://wizardvarnish.com/wv...
Let me fetch you a spoon..
Looking forward to this also. I hope it holds up to last couple of 3D Mario titles. Either way... Mario Day is almost here!
I got a disagree for this? Wow
Don't worry about disagrees. Fanboyism is rampant here.
Saw your comment and then disagreed it simply because you compained about people disagreing and everyone can have an opinion. Have a good night sleep axonsomewood and make sure not to accidently fall into a realm of a further dimension which has been plagued and infested by bed bugs. But dont let that worry you good night and donnt let de bed bugs bite of your d
Without a doubt.
Why do people keep imposing that every game new title that comes out is suppose to be a *killer app* or *system seller*. Only to later bash Nintendo fans for statement they didn't make not coming true. The Wii U's systems sellear are going to be Bayonetta 2, Monolith's X, Smash Brothers U, Zelda U and Mario Kart 8. Trying to call any other currently announced game for the console a killer app is a pointless exaggeration that shouldn't be made. I'm tired of all of this sales focused articles. We need to focus solely on games. With that said, Mario 3D Word looks like its going to be great.
3D mario is a killer App,not as big kart or smash, but i expect sales to rise after this game releases. But yeah your right on the dot, people just want an excuse.
The problem is all of the games you mentioned are for 2014... AT BEST. I don t think we have releases dates for any of them- Since Spring 2013, the word was... wait for 2nd half of 2013, wait for holiday sales season 2013- now it is wait for 2014 (we think 2014= maybe Spring, maybe late 2014 maybe even 2015 for some? IMO, if sales are not HUGE gong thru year end 2013 then any Wii U sales momentum after that will be game specific- in other words sales will not continually rise or stay at a high level- they will spike w the big games then fall quickly after the rush is over- It is ashamed too- Nintendo has really not put much effort/resources (as a company) into the Wii U
Uh, I expect Mario 3D World to push more console sales than Bayonetta 2 and Monolith's X, and probably Zelda U. Smash Bros U and Mario Kart U will move even more systems than that, that's for sure.
That may be the n4g perspective. But we are the nerds dude. We are a small group of people who spend our reading news and discussing our favorite upcoming titles. The big mass doesn't care about that. They want their Mario game and have fun.
story of my life
If this game was something as big and amazing as Mario Galaxy, THEN it would be the Wii-us Killer App. It's sadly not. It's a basic 4 player 3d Mario game.
Without online coop.
Not that I disagree with your sentiment, but that didn't stop any of the cooperative New Super Mario Bros. games from selling well.
Yeah, but this game looks really fun without co-op.
It does look amazingly fun after the new trailer but I have a few issues. No online. Why make a mp focused game without online? This isn't the GameCube era, online has been standard for a decade. It feels too similar to 3d land which I already played. Mario has suffered from being way too similar since the New series launched. Every game has similar worlds, the same artstyle, and feels too samey. Even Paper Mario had the same 8 worlds and levels like the New series and 3d Land/World have. I want an open 3d Mario, not the 8 world, 8 level layout. Its boring. Why not make it a massive open world with some hidden levels and stars from exploring or doing insane acrobatics and tasks? We could have Yoshis Island in 3d, totally open world. Maybe we could have a massive open world with Peach's castle in the far horizon like the mountain in Journey. Your only goal is traverse and survive until you reach it? Maybe use Peach's castle from Mario 64 but expand the area around it by 100 or 1000? Imagine the fun you could have just exploring and finding cool unexpected stuff. Levels shouldn't be in a 3d Mario IMO. For a handheld sure but a powerful HD console, no way.
No. They're really milking Mario. The Wii U needs something original and unique to succeed. Other than Nintendo Land, they haven't shown anything from their first party studios on what the Wii U Gamepad can do. Having a sequel to a 3DS Mario game isn't the way to do that. It just seems lazy and brings a lack of confidence within a first party dependent system.
"The Wii U needs something original and unique to succeed. " *Cough* X *Cough* Bayonetta 2 *cough* Wonderful 101* Cooough* Pikmin *Cooooooouugh*
cough on your face and spread a deadly plague that infects you within minutes and leaves you nauseus, vomiting and causing sever gastronomical cramps.
Bbu bbbbbut, CATSUIT! SO INNOVATIVE!
Compared to what exactly?
System seller, and new Zelda, and Bayonetta 2, and X.
The same was said for Pikmin3 and The Wonderful 101 LOL! Let's see how things turn out ;)
Pi min 3 actually did great, considering the low install base. There was even a tick in the amount of units sold during Pikmin 3's launch window.
no one said that about pikmin 3 or W101, we said they would be great games which they were.
Welcome to a new episode of LOL_WUT Logic! Toda'ys goof up... Complains about fans not supporting Wii U games. Mocks fans for having optimism for new Nintendo IP. Also, Mario is a major Nintendo IP. Pikmin is more niche. Even fans acknowledged this, liar.
Yes it very well could be, sorry trolls, this mario game is gonna be huge!! canoot wait to get my hands on this!
i myself dont want to troll. the environments just dont seem organic at all. everything seems too polished and cutesy. mario 64 actually took risks with its artstyle that made it feel very organic and fresh. this game looks like it will be fun and all, but i wont be as engrossed in the worlds as i was in past mario games.
By artstyle do you mean they went 3D? Cause that's what was different with Mario 64.
The Japanese are going to eat this game up. Sales everywhere should be very good.
MaRiO, please shoW Wii U pOWeRrrrrrrR!!!
although im not a WiiU owner i do plan to buy one soon and i really wanted this mario game to stand out. unfortunately it looks almost exactly like 3D land for 3DS. the cat suit doesnt really do much for me and the art style seems too "artificial" i know mario is a heavily stylized game, but something about super mario 64 felt so organic and vibrant to me while every level in this game looks like some man-made amusement park. you cant deny the blandness of the of the topography aswell, in super mario 64 you had mountains to scale, oceans to swim and frozen peaks, here it just seems like the same rectangular block platforms with a different texture over it. it is very evident that this game is mostly a cash grab on nintendo's part. with the new hardware they have no excuse to not make a game with interesting topography and slightly more realistic looking worlds while having awesome gameplay still at it's core. maybe the 4 player mode could have been a cool unlockable bonus after you collect all the stars instead of the main focus? just my 2 cents.
If you've seen the new video, you might change your mind. http://www.youtube.com/watc... I thought the exact same thing before the Nintendo Direct, but these stages and the cherry power up actually make me want the game now. I love the shadow level as well.
"3D World’s multiplayer troubles me, if only because other Mario platformers have had shoddy multiplayer gameplay on stages engineered for single-player gameplay" <-- this is an opinion. This is not the first time I have heard someone complain about the multiplayer aspect of the NEW SMB titles and it's an idiotic thing to say, because it is factually incorrect. Where is the evidence that the entire game was not designed with multiplayer in mind? It just goes to show the sad state of affairs that is video game journalism today. The NSMB multi player was the most fun I, and many of my college educated friends had last generation. Nothing shoddy about it. If you became frustrated, to the point of not having fun, you missed the point entirely.
I think people tend to form that opinion because some aspects of the game are difficult to complete with four players. Take, for instance, stages where you're supposed to run/work quickly for most of the stage. If even one player is slower than the rest, the entire multiplayer aspects starts to fold on itself as that player either must be relegated to "the bubble" or that player will hold the rest back, leading to potential chaos when lava/smog cloud/etc. approaches.
But that seems to be more of a symptom of a disparity of skill, rather than a faulty level design. Things like that are bound to happen. Maybe it never bothered me because I was one of the more skilled players in my particular group. Anyway thanks for responding.
Killer app? System seller? YES.
This game has the most new elements and enemies I've seen since Galaxy 1. Gonna be amazing!
I see lots of complaining that Nintendo puts out Mario games all the time and they should move on. However, they keep putting out new ideas in the games - most of the time - and fans love it! The biggest example of it is with NSMB U which has sold over 2 million copies on a system that has ONLY sold 3.5 million units to date! Why wouldn't a company put out games that sell millions every time? After all Activision does it with Skylanders & COD; EA with all their sports games year after year, MS with Halo, Ubisoft with Asassin's Creed etc etc. Yet people aren't complaining about them. Instead they're just out buying the next version of any one of those games. Why should Nintendo be any different AND get bashed for it everytime they do the same thing all the other companies are doing? If you don't like Mario don't buy it. Go back to shooting something once again in a different setting.
It's a Mario game. Of course it's going to sell well. I wont be getting this first day, But, I will be getting it. It looks pretty damn fun to me. Sure, it doesn't have online co-op, but I don't see that as a bad thing at all, I'd rather have people ACTUALLY there with me while playing this kind of game. I expect this to be a seller along with Mario Kart 8, Smash bros, Zelda U, Bayonetta 2, and X, of course.
Judging from the reactions around the web to the latest trailer, it very well could be. I showed my little brother this trailer since he was pretty "meh" on the the first trailer and now he wants me to, and I quote, "Hurry up and get a Wii U already!" Even Neogaf who were extremely critical and thought it looked lame have suddenly changed their opinion from that one trailer. I even heard people say they really want a Wii U for this.
A $60 version of the 3ds game? Nope
Bet you know almost no details
@AbortMission Actually it's a Wii U game. But I'm sure you were just honestly mistaken. After all, no one is that stupid.
Is that a disagree because people believe people really are that stupid?
This game is a must buy for Wii U.
Just not that impressed by this game. Super Mario Galaxy was for me the greatest Mario game ever made and one of the best video games ever made full stop. But 3d World looks to me like it will be another Super Mario Sunshine. Good, but not amazing. Does anybody seriously think this looks as epic as Galaxy? I'm actually looking forward to windwaker and Mariokart more than this.
I, surprisingly, love the level design. It just feels new. The demo levels that everyone was able to test out were not that great, but I've changed my mind since the Nintendo Direct. I really liked Galaxy, and I LOVED the level selection- a giant ship for you to explore. This game doesn't look like it has that, but I think it still feels different than 3D Land.
Every game, but F-Zero.....
I wish it was online. When is Nintendo doing online? I lost all my couch friends I need online. I'm still getting it.
Nintendo seem to have a lot riding on SM3D World's success. Because if it fails to boost wii u sales significantly then I can't see the wii u reaching even gamecube level "success"
