Hands On: Fighting for Fun in Killzone: Shadow Fall's Next Generation Multiplayer Mode - Push Square

Push Square: "It may be one of the PlayStation 4’s first big exclusives, but Killzone: Shadow Fall finds itself surrounded by heavy firepower. With both Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 set to accompany the release onto store shelves later this year, Guerrilla Games’ next generation excursion to the Alpha Centauri system will need more ammunition than Sony’s meek marketing muscle to succeed. Fortunately, as we attested earlier in the year, the shooter is shaping up nicely – but does its multiplayer component deserve the same high praise as its more widely publicised single player side-order?"

-- Either you get it or you don't. Killzone is in a league all its own. This game will pwn.

"Based on our brief hands-on, the answer’s a resounding yes"

Best of both worlds, great single player and great multiplayer. I definitely want to get this game around launch when I have the money. I love science fiction stories and the game looks both fun and beautiful.

This is more or less second tier multiplayer stuff, especially when you've got not only Battlefield 4 to look forward to but Destiny and CoD: Ghosts. They might have improved their MP experience but I don't really see anyone sticking with this for too long.

DrGonzo972d ago

Considering there are still people playing Killzone 2 and 3, I don't think longevity will be an issue. Killzone is a great alternative for those who cant stand COD anymore.

MethCupcakes972d ago

Or Battlefield. I KZSF may be my last FPS.

get2sammyb972d ago

I think it's a fair concern, but if Warzones works the way that they're being billed, then it could remain very popular moving forwards. The big challenge will be getting people to actually play the user created playlists, but if they figure that out, then it'll always feel fresh as a result.

We'll see. Guerrilla's really going for a community focus this time, so it'll be interesting how the game evolves. At the very worst, it's going to be a fun online shooter.

sigfredod972d ago

you just need to imagine the posibilities of creating your own matches, your own set of rules that apply for every single player on the server, i f this doesn´t add to the fun factor people is crazy

Ron_Danger972d ago

Some people like twitch shooters, others like more realistic team oriented shooters. I'll take Killzone over CoD any day.

GiggMan972d ago

I agree. I've put more hours in Killzone multiplayer than I have in all the Call of Duty's combined.

I now only use CoD for local multiplayer, due to lack of choices :-(

Majin-vegeta972d ago

Seems like BF4 & COD are attracting most of the casuals which keeps them away from ruining games like this.

MizTv972d ago

I up in the air about this mp also
I love kz2 but hated kz3 mp
So good thing I'm getting this and battlefield4

sync90972d ago

COD Ghosts? lol K2 multiplayer shits on any cod. it prob wont be as deep as BF4, but im getting sick of military shooters.

KwietStorm972d ago (Edited 972d ago )

Well Destiny won't be out anytime soon, and I don't play COD. So, with Battlefield 4 being very high on my list, not just as a good game itself, but as a military shooter, Killzone will provide my sci fi shooter fix, if it redeems itself from KZ3. Remember, a game doesn't have to have an immense community with a bagillion copies sold to either be successful or just to sustain itself. If it does things properly and pleases its fan base, then toppling or standing out from Battlefield and Call of Duty is irrelevant.

hankmoody972d ago

Fair enough but for many of the gamers on here crying about hurting wallets, it's going to come down to a choice for them. I wouldn't see this as being a top choice when you consider the history of the KZ series.

This is one of the things that has me hyped for this game, finally you can customize the matchs completely to your like, in BF3 for example many try to do it by posting the rules on the server but at the alwasy somebody breaks it or bend it, so on killzone finally if you don´t want c4 used for example is possible and will apply for everybody, thanks guerrilla

MizTv972d ago

One of the many reasons I loved kz2 mp
You could have it just they way you wanted and it was still ranked matches

Edvin1984972d ago

This game is shaping up to be very well thought out, so now lets hope that the feel of the game is tight and sharp. I am playing Kill Zone 3, and just like the 2nd one it has this soggy feel to the controls. I dunno maybe I just played to much darn COD or something.

King_many_layers972d ago

COD is a very different game. Firstly the game has a lower latency rate, meaning that there is less time between the input on the controller being registered.
Secondly COD is ridiculously fast the movement. KZ was always meant to be a grounded game where you feel add if you are wearing pounds of equipment and lugging the weight of a weapon.
