Now We've Heard It All: Minecraft Blamed in School Violence Case

A nine-year-old Orlando, Fla. boy—"so tiny ... he could barely see the judge over the podium"—was sentenced to home confinement by a state judge after he brought "multiple weapons to school." The video game being blamed? Minecraft. Mine-bleeping-craft. (Culture, Minecraft)

Naturally everyone is going to hop on the band wagon for blaming video games for their crimes now. His parents probably told him to say it.
MultiConsoleGamer  +   366d ago
Did he bring a pick axe?
Ultraplayerxp  +   366d ago
If it was a pickaxe it would've been totally justified lol

They shouldve given the father a thorough mental examination!! Clearly the parents are the ones at fault here, not the kid.

Damn those video games! Whats next, beating people with guitars thanks to guitar hero? The madness needs to stop!

/sarcasm, unless Fox news needs me to work for them. ;)

If any game should be blamed for violence, then I completely agree it has to be this one, can we just leave it at that!

Seriously I'm confused. I phing. Because it's happened and it frankly makes sense (to some degree) despite the game clearly not being the issue at all.

But minecraft? That thing is pixelated up the ass. I don't think anyone can play it and think 'I should do this in real life'. Clearly an excuse. The father should get the death penalty. Not for being stupid, but for being stupid AND producing offspring. That shit should be illegal.

I was playing GTA at 9. I don't see how a game would entice someone to carry weapons.

Suuuure. And I was inspired to blood curdling violence by Katamari Damacy.

Did the kid try to break the wall with his hands?NO!,and the only gun in minecraft is gunpowder...in other news mass murder inspired by teletubbies. This father is probably a redneck or something because minecraft inspire children to build stuff and maybe bang their fists against a wall, but not this.

He brought several weapons to school that aren't found in the game.

My guess here is that the child is like my brother. My parents said that he will not play Call of Duty anymore. But one day when my parents were at work, my brother's friend downloaded CoD to my brother's Xbox. Now, whenever my brother plays the Xbox, he plays CoD, and as soon as he hears someone coming up the stairs, he quits and loads up minecraft.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the situation, and the dad only saw the kid playing minecraft, but the true violence was from the kid playing a different game while being unsupervised.

"They use hammers to dig and knives and guns to protect themselves from zombies,"
No "They" use pickaxes to dig and swords and bow and arrows to defend from zombies and skeletons etc. A sword and a bow and arrow are pretty difficult to smuggle into a school
