Minecraft PS4 - Same Code Across All Consoles

4J Studios confirms that Minecraft PS4 edition will be the same as the Xbox 360 version. (Minecraft, PS4)

Well that bites.
malokevi  +   361d ago
Really unexpected. Why would they shortchange the PS4 version? Obviously the PS4 has the processing power to keep up with the PC/XB1 version. 8gb of ram seems like plenty for infinite worlds and MMO-style multiplayer.

The link doesn't even go anywhere.

Would like an explanation on this one? Money? Exclusivity? Minecraft is a massive draw for a lot of young people. I can see this factoring into some peoples decision making process when buying a console.
Emilio_Estevez  +   361d ago
Says it will be the same across all consoles dude. Not sure why the next-gen versions wouldn't be at least a little closer to PC though.

Guys, there is this thing called reading, I would look into it.

"Minecraft PS4 Edition Same as Xbox 360"

Says where? The link goes nowhere.

Already, the Xbox360 version is different from the PC version, and the PC version will be the same as [or at least very nearly similar to] the X1 version... so I don't know where you are getting your information.

"The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Minecraft will support larger worlds and more multiplayer features but to what extent has yet to be revealed."

http://www.examiner.com/art...

Conflicting information highlights the need for clarification. But if the PS4 version is the same as the 360 version, than the PS4 version is a dwarfed version. Might explain why the XB1 version doesn't have a launch date yet, and the PS4 version does.

Just connecting the dots, here... not trying to hate on your favorite machine.

"The underlying game code will be the same version across all consoles"
UltimateMaster  +   361d ago
Minecraft is pretty much the same version on any platform.
PC, Smart phone, console.
It's not the most graphically demanding game.
A dual core XP can run it.

Did anyone actually tough it was going to be different?
Has anyone of you played Minecraft before?

You could potentially make bigger worlds, but unless they release Minecraft 2 with better graphics, it won't be graphically superior. Is what I mean.

@UltimateMaster

I have played it for many tens of hours on my Xbox360. I've also been keeping up with how it will be different on the Xbox One & PS4. Judging by your comment, I find it hard to believe that "YOU" have ever played it, or even regarded it with anything more than a cursory glance.

@eonjay

Yes, they say that in a few articles, right before they say "but the multiplayer will be different..."

Of course the underlying code is the same. This is minecraft. It's so brilliantly simple that there will never be any need to alter the underlying code. Doesn't mean all versions are identical.

"The underlying game code will be the same version across all consoles, so at least Xbox 360's TU13 equivalent."

from the link you cant open,, its just posted from twitter
malokevi  +   361d ago
christ... this place is impossible.

Same article, as I posted and quoted from above... shortly after your quoted text...

"The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Minecraft will support larger worlds and more multiplayer features but to what extent has yet to be revealed."

THEY WILL NOT BE THE SAME!

"underlying code" is just that... UNDERLYING CODE!

The title of this article LITERALLY SAYS, AND I QUOTE:

"Minecraft PS4 Edition Same as Xbox 360"

IF THATS THE CASE, THEN THIS SENTANCE (I REPEAT)

"The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Minecraft will support larger worlds and more multiplayer features but to what extent has yet to be revealed."

IS A DIRECT CONTRADICTION! XBOX 360 DOES NOT FEATURE INFINITE WORLDS OR THE OFT-ELUDED TO "OTHER MP FEATURES".

SO WHICH IS IT? EXPLAIN THAT! OR YOU CAN SIMPLY CONTINUE TO INTERPRET THIS AS AN ATTACK ON YOUR MANHOOD.

FANBOYS! I'm getting a PS4 and an XB1, both day 1 editions, so try your hardest (I know, its impossible) to see this as an impartial inquiry into conflicting facts from a person who is genuinely interested in minecraft.

EVERYTHING DOESNT HAVE TO BE A FANBOY PISSING CONTEXT, YOU VS. THE WORLD!

please just think.... think.... think about this contradiction and roll it around in your head before you respond. I'm actually interested to see if anyone else understands where I'm coming from... I will not think less of the PS4 if it does happen to have an inferior version of Minecraft (hell, I'm not even sure I should have used the word "inferior" for fear of inciting outrage among PS4 buyers.)

@Army_of_Darkness

Oh Minecraft can have HD textures, but it would crash even next-gen consoles if the map was a respectable size. I tried using some really high resolution textures once and crashed my PC that's not far off from next-gen specs. Minecraft can be more physically demanding than people realize and that's why it looks the way it does.
SilentNegotiator  +   360d ago
Guys, it's Minecraft. If they made it the least optimized port on the planet, it would still run fine.
3-4-5  +   361d ago
seriously, update the look of this game.

It was cool for a while and I loved playing it, but the pixel box thing is OVER and not as fun or "cool" anymore.

They have the tech to make the same game but with 100X better graphics/ art style, yet they don't.

Just keep on milkin i guess.
sorane  +   361d ago
Looks amazing with mods :)
HeyImBen11  +   361d ago
After 3 years someone is still complaing about the pixel look, that makes this game unique and suitable for this gameplaystyle? Wow.

@Malokevi
Chill man. Everything will be ok.
malokevi  +   361d ago
Whatever bud. Its obvious that I'm right. If I need to capitalize and emphasize just to get an obvious and apparent point across to a bunch of raving fanboys, then that's what I'll do.

But I really appreciate the constructive criticism.

4J Studios are talking in that slimey PR talk where they don't directly answer a question because they have something to hide.

They say 'the underlying game code is the same across all versions' which is logical. But he doesn't confirm or deny that the PS4 version will be the equivalent of the new better featured XBOne edition. Which leaves us to infer that the PS4 version is indeed gimped.

A developer should make a game for any format they support to the best of their ability - not hold back on features because of a big payment.

You all realize that MineCraft is not a next-gen type of game. I'm not sure what you expect to have more on the PS4 version, can't really upgrade the visuals, defeats the purpose of minecraft.

If anything hope they add the PC updates on it, thats the only difference.
AceBlazer13  +   361d ago

It's only a bunch of bytes.
mewhy32  +   361d ago
good one.
SlapHappyJesus  +   361d ago
No reason for that.
While I did play it a fair bit on the 360 back when that was still my main gaming platform, I will admit it was a rather limited version of the game.
bumnut  +   361d ago
Minecraft looks like crap on any platform, part of its appeal is that it can be played on many different devices.
miDnIghtEr20C_SfF  +   361d ago
This is hilarious.
JimmyLmao  +   361d ago
I think what it means is that all platforms will have some parity in the version of the updates of Mincradt that they get.

But of course PS4 & XB1 will be able to support larger worlds, probably unlimited, and more players in the game at once... maybe even proper servers?
Stuntz  +   361d ago
lmao, another failed sony speech. O we are getting the amazing Minecraft on PS4 to get you ahll hype then we find out that its a crap version lmao. It is sony though they are always pulling that lets talk to get consumers excited than the shadow comes out and really shows whats up.

A tiny bit misleading. Are people not actually going to the link?

"In response to a fan query as to which edition the PS4 version of Minecraft would launch with, the studio confirmed that the "underlying game code will be the same" across all consoles.

4J Studios also said that the PS4 edition of Minecraft will launch with at least the Xbox 360's title update 13 equivalent.

Given that 4J Studios are saying that the versions will be the same across all consoles, you should also expect the PS Vita and Xbox One versions of Minecraft to launch with title update 13. "

follow this GUY on Twitter: @JonnyBoii_18

he says the PS4 minecraft will launch with the PS4 and will be like the PC version!

idk if its legit tho. looks legit

Xx-ADITYA-xX  +   361d ago
Uh... what the fuck is this bullshit? This is what Sony gets for providing them a special invitation with a gold plated PS1? I don't care if Microsoft is sucking their balls, PS4 should've got a, GOOD version not this outdated crap.
TalonJH  +   361d ago
Read the tweet or the original story. They're referring to it not having to be updated to match the 360 version and that they are all the same.

Or get us Starforge Alpha. I'll take that, too.

Minecraft Needs a new engine if its going to survive! Let modders make additions and get to work on the new engine Mojang!
HeyImBen11  +   361d ago
Whaaat? LOL. Yeah sure, why not just making a new engine and let the past 3 years be for nothing. Great idea, lol.
#18.1 (Edited 361d ago ) | Agree(0) | Disagree(1) | Report | Reply
SpideySpeakz  +   361d ago
No, it doesn't need a new engine. It's perfect the way it is.
Monkeyonfire13  +   360d ago
Yes it Does need a new engine, i Must get off of Java if they're gona survive. Java has serious limitations. At its core Minecraft will always be Minecraft, but it needs to move over to something stable...mostly for mods of course.
bromtown  +   361d ago
What's so hard to understand?! All versions will be at the same level of progression (Title update 13) is what he means when he says PS4 version will be the same as the 360 version. The only difference will be the size of the maps, the 'underlying code' and 'TU13' just refers to what populates the map, biomes, mobs etc.

Basically:

Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita = Equivalent to current X360 version.

Xbox One, PS4 = Equivalent to current X360 version in terms of content, but bigger worlds and better multiplayer.
Wranglersofttop  +   361d ago
Same Code=Same Game. Unless I'm not understanding this correctly.
hazelamy  +   361d ago
i would have hoped the next gen versions would have bigger worlds at least.
TheFamous1  +   360d ago
Minecraft is old by now.. maybe it's just me, but I never got why it was so popular.
Nabbic  +   360d ago
Well this is really next gen... A low quality, 4 year old game.
Wake me up when the dev of Cube World starts patching again... At least that has potential.
