Dawn Of The 2DS: Why Nintendo's Newest "Misstep" Is Their Smartest Move Of The Year

WGTC writes: When The Big N announced the Nintendo 2DS, gamers ‘round the globe froze like so many deer in headlights. Is this thing real? Is today April 1st? Has Nintendo finally gone full-on crazy? And as is usually the case with aberrant Nintendo news, the editorials started flooding in. “Out of touch! Leaving the console race!” And of course, the ever popular “Doomed!” (2DS, Industry)

I have no use for the 2DS. However, it is smart. The reason why is the economy. People don't have a lot of money (keep your eye on PS4 and X1, which are going to struggle 6 months after launch, especially the X1). Handheld gaming is the last bastion of hope for a lot of people. It sounds silly, but the rise of portable gaming on smartphones/tablets was no accident. People love games, but they can't afford to spend much anyone.

I anticipate the 2DS/3DS line as well as the Vita (which also just announced a much cheaper Vita 2000 model) to start gaining a ton of developer support and sales in the next 2 years.
