OXM: Battlezone Review

Minimalistic vector tanks were all the rage in 1980, but they're more than a little sad in 2008. Retro addicts might enjoy the coin-op's original vector graphics, but the "evolved" version is a neon mess of non-descript scenery, laughable backgrounds, and inexplicably shallow viewing distance. The controls are serviceable if switched to dual-stick tread control, but few will want to endure more than 10 minutes of dull enemies and spotty collision detection.

Meanwhile, the sole online multiplayer mode somehow manages to be even less enjoyable by randomly spawning you as one of several virtually indistinguishable tanks or a hopelessly idiotic kamikaze missile. Unless your nostalgia borders on masochism, let this pointless war rage without you. (Battlezone, Xbox 360) 3/10
