Rockstar Games: Time for new IP?

GTA V is a smashing success, but what's next for Rockstar? Chris Morris examines the possibilities
Rockstar Games

With Grand Theft Auto V shattering entertainment industry sales records, the Houser Brothers and the team at Rockstar Games have once again justified the freedom and independence Take-Two affords them. (Culture, Grand Theft Auto V, PS3, Rockstar Games, Xbox 360)

I cant believe he forgot L.A Noire
Nitrowolf2  +   520d ago
It was published by Rockstar, but developed by Tea Bondi, whereas GTA is developed by sub divisions of Rockstar As much as I would love to see a new one, I'm unsure of that possibility given the cost to produce it

They still got other IP's like Bully, Red Dead, And Agent (being the only new IP there)

yea when i saw that hint of Agent in the license place of GTA V car, im not almost positive its in development

I loved LA Noire. But hopefully the next one is a true open world game with a focused narrative.

Anyway...they can do what ever they want but open world it must be. Next gen systems and specs would definitely afford them the opportunity to show how gta v just scratched the surfave of open world. Maybe some type of mmo may be my guesa with gta online being almost like a beta run. Imagine a rockstar mmo set in a huge open world of some type. They can keep adding cities. Maybe gta and los santos is only the beginning.

Would love another Manhunt.. but don't really see it even happening.
mark134uk  +   519d ago
totally agree i loved that game cant wait for a second 1
nick309  +   520d ago
Nah, every gta is a new ip considering you never play as characters from past games. I believe rockstar shouldn't make a new ip yet.
strotee  +   520d ago
I disagree. Every GTA game is NOT a new IP. Same name = same IP IMO, whether characters return or not.
0ut1awed  +   519d ago
Hmm going of exactly what you said means a lot of games are brand new IPs. Killzone 2, Borderlands 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Halo Reach, Far Cry 3, every Battlefield game, Fallout New Vegas, Bioshock 2 and Infinite, all the Rainbow Six games, all of the Elder Scroll games, all the Need for Speed games, all the Forza games, all the Gran Turismo games, all the Dirt games, Assassin's Creed games, etc.

That's just the first few that come to mine. See how that logic starts to fall apart?

Yes i agree, lol. I wonder what rockstar has in their mind for a new ip . I wanna see agent.
HolyDuck  +   520d ago
*cough* Agent *cough*
solidjun5  +   520d ago
Agent. :-/
Kuse  +   520d ago
I agree, Rockstar needs to take a step back from the GTA series, I mean don't get me wrong there are many aspects of GTA5 I love but the story is kinda stale to be honest, its sortof cliche and unoriginal and highly predictable.
Rashid Sayed  +   520d ago
ye sure. A series that does 1 billion dollar business in 3 days needs to put into rest.

Ye,really :\
SuperLupe  +   520d ago
We only had 2 GTA's this gen.
NukaCola  +   519d ago
3 to include Chinatown Wars which is amazing BTW.
aPerson  +   519d ago
It's been five years since GTA4. FIVE YEARS! In those five years, Rockstar Games has released:

- Midnight Club: Los Angeles
- Red Dead Redemption
- L.A. Noire
- Max Payne 3

They did step back and gave GTA a break - and now they're returning to it. Nothing wrong with that at all.
IHassounah  +   519d ago
Actually they announce a new GTA game every 3 to 5 years
TheEnigma313  +   520d ago
I think the IPs they have now are good. The great thing is that they don't milk their franchises with annual or bi annual releases.
CaptainPunch  +   519d ago
How about a pirate game called "Dead Seas"?
logan_izer10  +   519d ago
So basically Assassins Creed black flag?

CaptainPunch  +   519d ago
How? So by your logic if Rockstar made a FPS game they would be copying Call of Duty? Rockstar is on another level ubisoft can't reach with Black Flag.
C-Thunder  +   519d ago
Accept Black Flag isn't a pirate game, it's an Assasins Creed game with a pirate candy coating. You're not going to feel like a pirate, it'll feel just like all the other creed games.
BigShotSmoov007  +   519d ago
I mean it's not like we get a GTA game every year so we will never get tired of it.
Perjoss  +   519d ago
R* Table Tennis 2!
ShaunCameron  +   519d ago
How about The Warriors 2?
attilayavuzer  +   519d ago
Bully 2 please
KonsoruMasuta  +   519d ago
That's what I want. Bully was one of my favorite PS2 games.
ShaunCameron  +   519d ago
That was the very first 360 game I ever bought. The Scholarship Edition, that is.
treeson47  +   519d ago
open world feudal japan/samurai, in the vain of red dead. would be really great to have an open world samurai game where the west has influenced, so there's still guns, but mostly swordplay with bamboo forests and what not. horse gameplay, and maybe the option to level up to a ninja or something!

or manhunt 3 would be greatly welcomed in my book :))))))
teedogg80  +   519d ago
I hope it's Agent for PS4 with new RAGE engine. RAGE engine 2?
IHassounah  +   519d ago
Actually RAGE engine is officially next generation , it just gets upgraded to a new level for the next generation technology
TXIDarkAvenger  +   519d ago
Agent is still a possibility...
Red_Devilz  +   519d ago
RDR? Take my money right NOW.
thelaughingwiseman  +   519d ago
