The Biggest Upcoming Console MMOs

IGN - As long as video game consoles have had internet connections, enterprising studios have been creating massively multiplayer games for them. Early notable efforts include Sega’s Phantasy Star Online in 2001 and Everquest Online Adventures in 2003.

Still, despite these groundbreaking games, there’s no denying that for most MMO experiences, PC gaming has always been where it’s at. Until now, at least.

Sony’s Playstation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One are more PC-like than ever, and now talented AAA console development teams are finally wrapping their heads around how to create persistent online worlds and long-term character growth. As a result, next-gen might be the era that console MMOs finally come into their own. (Culture, Destiny, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, PC, Planetside 2, PS3, PS4, Tom Clancy’s The Division, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

These are some good titles, I'm a bit worried with elder scrolls online, and FFXIV but it looks like we will just have to see

Been playing FFXIV a lot but I am learning real quick that it's just a lot of FATE grinding...

Fate grindings are for nubs. Dungeoning is for real mens in that game.

Fate grinding is a way, but not the most efficient way. Dungeons teach game mechanics and give substantial rewards.

Fate grinders are the people that show up to dungeons for the story and say "What does <insertskillhere> do? I got it a few levels ago, but never used it."

@biggest

I've played my fair share of MMO's and tanked in WoW for years. So I understand tanking mechanics.

The reason I said that is mainly because both require a 15$ monthly subscription plus the price of the game, and personally, no matter how good your game is, why should I pay more than 5$ a month to play it when there are plenty of other Free to play MMO's coming to the PS4? Plus there are plenty of one time purchase games that have multiplayer so just... why?

I wonder whet differences will we see in DCUO for the PS4 compared to the PS3 version? I cannot wait to play The Division and the Crew when they both come out.

I hope everquest next is announced for ps4 eventually. I think destiny looks great, and I'm interested but not sold on elder schrolls online.

Destiny, The Division and The Crew are the ones I'm excited about, some of the F2P's are looking good as well.

I'm most excited for The Division. Destiny will be cool I'm sure but I just can't get over that door closing mechanic. So awesome.
