The PS4 Version of Final Fantasy XIV Will Run at 60 FPS, 1080p, Equivalent to Highest PC Settings

On February the 22nd 2014 Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will enter its beta testing phase on PS4, but how will it run and how good will it really look? According to Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida, it’ll run really well and look great, as he shared today in an interview, together with relevant info on the PS4 beta.

Not so much, considering that you need a rather beefy PC to run at 60 fps stably on the current version.

LeonhartX1132d ago

i am sure he meant "to be expected" considering the fact that the PS4 is very very powerful :D

Abriael1132d ago

@LeonhartX: oh yeah, I got what he meant, but if they really pull it out I'll still be amazed.

abzdine1132d ago

and for those who bought FF14 on PS3, PS4 upgrade will be for free!

Stsonic1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

You are correct I don't know why you are getting disagrees, these people have obviously not played the game on PC. It is very CPU intensive and you need an i5 3570 or above to run a constant 60fps on the highest settings.

Irishguy951132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

He's getting disagree's because no one agree's Ps4 is quite weak compared to FFXIV's specs. Even though it is. The CPU doesn't have a hope.

Eonjay1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

Not really surprising as most PS4 titles are running at 60FPS 1080P. I think that should be the standard this generation.

Also: Just incase anyone was wondering:
For the best performance you should aim to run the game on a system with at least these specifications.
Operating System: Windows® 7 64 bit
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5
Graphics: NVIDIA® Geforce® GTX 660 or higher, AMD Radeon™ HD 7950 or higher
Memory: 4GB of RAM.
Disk Space: 20GB.

LAWSON721132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

It should be expected I doubt FFXIV requires anything more than a HD 7870 at max settings (probably lower aa but I doubt the ps4 version will use highest aa) at 1080p. If it requires more than that I would be shocked

KiLLeRCLaM1132d ago

"It is very CPU intensive and you need an i5 3570 or above to run a constant 60fps on the highest settings" not true.. CPU isn't as important as a graphics card.. I had a 580 gtx 1.5gb and i7 2600k and I played it with more then 60 fps

Magicite1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

to run on max setting and CONSTANT 60fps at 1080p in most crowded and open areas, also while fighting a monsters, You need a really good high-end PC, just like in any MMO.

Ashlen1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

This is actually true.

I have a pretty nice gaming PC and TBH in the busy city areas if i have it completely maxed it drops to about 45 FPS. TBH i'll be surprised if they can do 60 fps with truly maxed settings.

(note: I do play at a much higher res than 1080p I kinda forgot about that when I quickly wrote this)

sourav931132d ago

@KiLLeRCLaM You do realise you contradicted yourself, right? Though the 580 is a great card, you've got a i7-2600K, which is way more powerful than the i5-3570, so what you said was a "moo point".

Army_of_Darkness1131d ago

Guess I'll hold out for the ps4 version then.

badz1491131d ago

LOL way to shoot yourself in the foot there, dude? He said AT LEAST i5 and you said no but you have i7 which obviously streets ahead of i5.

Bob Dole1131d ago

Unless hyperthreading is involved an i7 isn't more powerful than an i5, much less a 2600 compared to a 3570.

kevnb1131d ago (Edited 1131d ago )

when they say 60 fps they dont usually mean locked at 60 fps. So between 30-60 fps, why not?

Ragthorn1131d ago

I know right, its an MMORPG, keywords Massively Multiplayer Online. MMOs are generally CPU intensive, but other people say otherwise. Ignorance is Bliss.

not really, 1080p 60FPS is NOT all of the highest settings a PC can have, there are many factors you can normally edit on a PC game, tesellation, antialising, etc.

Considering he already said that the PS4 version wont include all the DX11 features the PC version has, then I guess its just an exagerated/inflamatory title.

My guess is the PS4 version will be a really great looking game anyway and not that different to the PC version, since I doubt they will be really going overboard on PC for an MMO, the idea is that everyone can play it, not just the highest end PCs

Irishguy951132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

Agree, the title doesn't make sense hardware wise(yes there are people in denial as usual). It will be 1080p 60 FPS with low - high graphical settings. My guess is they will activate the graphics up to a certain level to just before the FPS starts to drop. Then try to optimise some more Frames out of it. Which won't do much. FFXIV looks amazing anyhow so the game will look great regardless.

Myze1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

Fact of the matter is, while the game looks good for an MMO (maybe the best, on high/max settings), it doesn't look close to as good as some of the best looking PS4 games we've seen.

There is no reason to think the ps4 version won't look about as good as the PC version does now at around max settings. There is obvious reasons to think the game will be optimized for the ps4.

Besides, graphics aren't much of a priority when it comes to MMOs anyway. If SE wants the game to last, they better concentrate on content. It's been a long time since I've seen a pay-to-play MMO with less overall content/world. Other than leveling all classes to 50 (which everyone will get tired of after their first few), I did everything in the game in the first couple weeks(including relic weapon for main class (WHM), leveled a gathering and two crafting classes to 50, finished Bahamut's dungeon), and I am NOT a hardcore raider/player.

edit: Should point out, the game is a lot of fun, but just way too little content and incredibly boring/grindy on a second class/job playthrough. I know they plan on releasing the Crystal Tower 24-man raid soon, but unless they really follow through with their plan to release updates like that at least every 2 months, for free, the game will lose players quickly.

Zele1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

"PS4 version wont include all the DX11 feature"

DirectX is owned by Microsoft, the Playstation 4 does not support it at all. All games are coded in Open GL and there is no excuse for missing features because Open GL is better than direct x.

dantesparda1131d ago

I don't know about missing direct x features but I do know that ps4 has direct x 11.1+

porkChop1131d ago

No. The PS4 does not have any form of DirectX. It's owned by Microsoft and is only used on their consoles and PC. Sony and Nintendo have always used OpenGL for this reason. OpenGL has pretty much all the same features, and in most cases is actually quite a bit faster than DirectX. OpenGL is also free to use.

--Onilink--1131d ago

@Zele and porckChop

It wouldnt hurt to actually read the article before commenting. Im not saying that PS4 uses DX11, but there are features that are available on it that wont be in the PS4 version of the game. As it was said by the game director...

Just because it works with OpenGL doesnt mean that those features of DX11 arent also available for devs, they just wont use them this time.

I'm glad to hear this, I'm waiting for the PS4 version, though I might dive in to the digital PS3 version sense upgrading to the PS4 will be free of charge. By the time it comes out on PS4 it might be cheaper than the current $40 price tag though so waiting is also a good idea.

It's nice to hear it'll look as good as the high-end PC version, there was never a guarantee that it would.

Gamer19821132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

Not really that impressive to be fair my PC breezes through this game benching at around 100fps (120 overclocked) at 1080p at max (4670k and a HD7970). I would have been shocked if it didn't run at 60fps 1080p.. Oh and BTW the PS4 has a few settings missing from ultra settings on PC so the PC version slightly beats it out. Not to detract from PS4 version which looks decent. Go onto the Aria forums and there's a benchmark thread for the PC version of this game people are ranging from 30fps for a £200 PC to 230FPS for an SLI machine costing in the region of £800.

Zele1132d ago

The missing settings are because the PS4 does not support Direct x11.

showtimefolks1131d ago

i am happy for that, i think with next gen systems every game should run 60 FPS with 1080p, but i think that will be the gen after the next gen if i am making any sense lol

ps3 was hard to develop for but had power now ps4 is easy to develop for but is more powerful, i can't wait to see what some of the sony's best team show in coming months

sony santa monica GOW3 team
ND Uncharted 3
MM since they aren't doing LBP no more
ready at dawn with help from SSM the order 1886
infamous 2nd son

and this is my underdog, GG team that's doing the new IP, GG are known for stunning graphics so just imagine

keabrown791131d ago (Edited 1131d ago )

I run right around 60fps with a core i5 2500k and a 580 GTX @ 1080p

The_HarryEtTubMan1131d ago (Edited 1131d ago )

Its expected that PS4 will run games equivelent to PC on high settings? lol no. Not even close and its beginning of this gen. It will be an absolutely massive gap within 1-2 years. See: AMD's Volcano GPU series...or any high range GPU released in the last year or two.

EXVirtual1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

Really? For an online game? WOW!
I knew the PS4 was powerful, but damn!
Hypes me up on what they could do with FFXV as well as XIV, with not just framerate resolution and textures, but scale too, since it's a single player game. Same goes for KH3. Nice!
Definitely gonna pick this up. FFXIV is gonna seriously be the true FFXIV.

Xof1132d ago

That's just what it's capable of. Server lag, latency, and all that jazz will still effect the game as much as any other MMO.

Abriael1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

Server lag has absolutely nothing to do with resolution and framerate. You can be lagged to death, but still run at 120 fps.

KonsoruMasuta1132d ago

Why did you get so many disagrees?

Magicite1132d ago

there are just too many dumb haters who love to make no sense

showtimefolks1131d ago

don't let disagrees bother you on n4g, its a normal way of life on this site

Abriael1132d ago

yeah sure mate. Keep telling yourself that.

EdoubleD1132d ago

Great to know, should be standard.
