Grand Theft Auto V : Animal Rights Group Demands Boycott

Jack Carone from In Defense of Animals tells TMZ ... his group is incensed that Rockstar Games is capitalizing off animal torture -- and it doesn't matter if it's real or fake. He says it perpetuates what he calls "institutionalized violence" against helpless animals. (Culture, Grand Theft Auto V)

Its a video game for christ's sake
Yi-Long  +   367d ago
Don't like it? Then don't buy it. Simple. Don't go around crying for a boycot or ban or whatever.
Gaming101  +   366d ago
lol It's the politically correct police waving their wands around at anything they don't like... they just need a tampon and everything will be fine.
ChrisW  +   367d ago
Screw 'In Defense of Animals'!!! Those activist groups normally condone or promote eco-terrorism.

Sea Shepherds, Animal Liberation Force, Greenpeace, and PeTA are prime examples of eco-terrorism.

i'm so sick of this ...really
it become so lame now

"games are too violent"
"games treat women bad"
"games have too much sex"
"games are bad because it make you kill animals"
"games let white guy kill black guy or the other way around...it's teh racist "

IT'S A DAMN VIDEO GAMES ...it was build for gamers to enjoy them not to take them srsly and emulate them in their lives so stop this BS already

it's like those people all what they wants us to play is a pony game with rainbow

Exactly. I would gladly kill any MF who mistreat animals but its just a game.
Tetsujin  +   366d ago
If they want to ban this for "Animal rights" then ban EVERY game that has some sort of animal hunting, including some of those "Hunter" games that come with a gun. Hell the animals in the wild in game are "optional" not "mandatory" to kill/run over.

If you want to make a difference, do something for your local community, not fight and argue "bannings" over something fake. The more I hear about people wanting to boycott GTA over something silly/stupid, the less faith I have in humanity as a whole.
rainslacker  +   366d ago
While I agree with you, the truth is for everyone that calls for bans or boycotts on these games, more people go out and buy it. It's actually counter productive. People are attracted to controversy, and it served GTA2 well back in the day.
HammadTheBeast  +   366d ago
I'm not sure why they're wasting resources on a video game when there's real animals in trouble...
3-4-5  +   366d ago
So what these people are saying is that digital animals are = to real living animals ?

Are they sane ?
ajax17  +   366d ago
They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel, these activists.
k2d  +   366d ago
Better that the kids get blow up dogs in virtual world and feel good or bad about it then, rather than that they do something of the sort in real life.

The charities and organisation are not helping their public image by doing this. They will get the hardcore fanatics but the average joe will look at this as just a winning child. You need to be like the Mormon's reaction (the church) to The Book of Mormon. They reacted well to something that criticises their belief. Animal rights needs to do the same sort of thing.

No real animals were hurt. Why don't these guys go help some REAL animals that really need it. Right now, habitat destruction, poaching, and hunting are hurting REAL animal species and driving them towards extinction. And these guys want to worry about fake animals in a video game?

It is a poor and cheap way to get the issue to the masses. I personally think these messages backfire unless the masses actually hate the thing they latch on to (GTA isn't one of those things)
dennett316  +   367d ago
That's too hard, and doesn't generate the amount of publicity that going after a successful game can bring. Most of these animal groups are less concerned about the animals, and more about their own profile.
They seem to think that this proves their commitment to animals, when in actual fact, this ridiculousness makes them look so stupid to the average person.
solidboss07  +   367d ago
Its not for kids, you thick bastards, it is adult entertainment. And what about my rights when a shark eats me while I swim. Seriously though, you can kill animals, you don't need to, same with NPC's.
Koyes  +   367d ago
STFU, animal rights groups
SephirothX21  +   367d ago
I'm all for animal right but ffs. Its a game and an excellent one at that. How can humans be this stupid? I thought our brains would have evolved enough by now not to be this retarded but oh well. Its a damn game and in order to tell a story and immerse players, the game has to show what happens in reality and even if they're is no point to gore in a video game, it isn't real. No animals or people are actually being hurt and any adult with a brain in their heads is not going to think killing people or animals is fine because they can do it in a game. In other words, Jack Carone can f*ck right off!

There is a local shelter I donate things to here where I live. They never think of things like this blog cause they're too busy actually helping animals.
boneso82  +   367d ago
I'm pretty sure that no animals were harmed during the making or playing of grand theft auto 5!
Bathyj  +   367d ago
Not completely true.

For every article I read about animal activist and GTA, I'm gonna go shoot a real animal.
solidboss07  +   366d ago
That is the wrong attitude, pal.
boneso82  +   366d ago
Actually i lied, I was so into playing GTA a couple of days ago that I forgot to defrost a rat for my python, so she went hungry for a day. Such a damaging game!
HolyDuck  +   367d ago
""Grand Theft Auto V" crossed the line by allowing game-playing children to run over, behead and kill animals -- and a prominent animal rights group is calling for a boycott."

This first line already has me hating the article. The whole children part, the game is rated M in the states and 18+ in the UK, not sure of other countries ratings but your whole argument is void when you state children are playing it when their are guidelines in place so that children DONT get to play it.

Shooting a cop in the face in cold blood? No biggie wiggie, accidently run over some critter while in the boonies? LIGHT THE TORCHES AND BREAK OUT THE PITCHFORKS!!! RABBLE RABBLE RABLLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!
grimmweisse  +   367d ago
Watched the video as I haven't play GTAV to see what the fuss is all about. All I can say to those animal right groups, stop wasting your time bitching about a video game, and focus on the real sick shite that some people tend to do in real life to animals.

I actually laughed watching that 15sec video, as I was expecting some real explicit actions, but it was the complete opposite.

Nonsensical moaning by those groups!
skydragoonity  +   367d ago
They should put a sock in it
kaozgamer  +   367d ago
Why don't they focus on the real world issue rather than on a bunch of pixels?
Bathyj  +   367d ago
No polygons were hurt in the making of this game.
OrangePowerz  +   367d ago
I shall go and hunt some animals now with my rocket launcher in GTA 5 and blow them up into tiny little pieces and send photos of the mutilated remains to them.
rainslacker  +   366d ago
You could just shoot them from your atomic blimp Sarah Palin style.
dennett316  +   367d ago
I'm going to play GTA 5 today and kick seven cows in the butt....just because of this whining bunch of cretins.
Then I'm going to play Pokemon and make them fight. Then even though I think the games look stupid as hell, I'm going to buy a Cabela hunting game and shoot a lot of endangered species in the face....purely out of spite.
Petty? Sure, but satisfying.
Sideras  +   367d ago
You kill humans and animals are their primary concern, fucking hypocrites.
BLAKHOODe  +   367d ago
All these "rights" groups always going after GTA is part of GTA's charm. They remind me how special GTA is. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Keep 'em coming!
pabadamus1  +   367d ago
I've bought the game but I haven't experienced the portion that has been causing all of the controversy. I will concede that some of the subject matter may be a bit gratuitous but I will also acknowledge that adults have a right to consume whatever they like. Minors should not have access to games like this but that is obviously not the case. Even though I will play this game from beginning to end by doing so I am in no way advocating violence against animals or women.

Animal rights group logic: Humans<Animals
FRAKISTAN  +   366d ago
hey anything to get attention right?
nunley33  +   366d ago
It does matter alot as video game violence isn't real lol. These nuts do put animal rights before human rights. They have a huge problem with virtual animals being killed but no problem at all with a million live viable babies being killed every year in the country.
Pintheshadows  +   366d ago
'For what it's worth ... the ability to kill animals in the game is not a new feature ... and animal violence has been included in every game'.

I hate animal rights groups. They don't help. As others above have pointed out they are just eco terrorists interested in nothing but their profile and agenda.
titans9999  +   366d ago
I am an animal rights activist, but I still love this game and the hunting missions! IT'S JUST A GAME IDIOTS,,!
silvacrest  +   366d ago
i truly hate people who attempt to force their beliefs upon others
Max-Zorin  +   366d ago
I'm gonna walk by a animal rights rally eating a whopper from Burger King.
Smoey  +   366d ago
Murder 1000 people, get a lapdance but touch that dog and we will boycott!
Kran  +   366d ago
Group: "BOYCOTT THE GAME!!!"

Um... bit late for that... Over 13 million copies sold within the first few days... um... yeah... sorry...

Game-playing children? Fuck TMZ.
