Monster Hunter is Finally Coming to the PS Vita, and What This Means for Sony’s Portable Platform

VengefulTorture: "Monster Hunter, the series responsible for the booming success of the PSP in Japan, has been a scarcity on Sony Consoles recently. What was once almost an exclusive series has now branched out to a variety of different consoles, all except the Vita. Seeing as the Vita doesn’t have an overwhelmingly impressive library, and it is in fact the successor to the PSP, one would think a new Monster Hunter title should have been announced by now for the impressive yet struggling handheld. It is well known and clear to almost everyone that one thing that could save the Vita from ending up like the PSP Go! is a Monster Hunter game; so it is with much relief that we finally have news of the series coming to the Vita." (Monster Hunter Frontier G, PS Vita, PS3, Wii U)

This is what a lot of Vita owners have been asking for.

Hopefully this game will get the sales the vita was looking for.

@Dan

But it's still a Monster Hunter game and from what I hear it's a good one. better to have it than to have nothing at all.

Tell that to the WiiU
PrimeGrime  +   396d ago
Actually in this case probably better to have nothing at all. No one wants this subscription crap. On top of it being well known for being the worst Monster Hunter around.

Didn't do well years ago in Japan, didn't do well years ago here on 360. It sure as hell won't do any better now that there are much better Monster Hunter games to spend your money on that don't require a monthly subscription and are also just better than this one.

Another thing is what Vita owner in their right mind would buy this in Japan? They have Soul Sacrifice Delta, Freedom Wars, Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, God Eater 2, PSO2 Nova and Toukiden. I highly doubt they will want this pay sub MH.

I agree. However, I am excited by the idea that it at least appears that they may be considering bringing more MH goodness to the Vita.
Dan_scruggs  +   396d ago
Unfortunately it won't do a whole lot considering it's a port of a game that first launched in 2007 and has been on the Xbox 360 since 2010 and Monster Hunter 4 just hit the 3DS.

Wrong...and it is simple why!

Port - yes

PC, Xbox 360 - yes

Portable MMORPG MH - only possible on the PS Vita.

R.E. is a good looking game no doubt. And it is the best looking portable game......on the 3DS PERIOD. Killzone Mercenary is the best looking game on any portable device PERIOD.
DarkHeroZX  +   395d ago
lol I ain't buying this crap, subcription based? no thanks I'll wait for a good Monster Hunter game.
wiiuniverse  +   396d ago
The monster hunter name will sell it modestly.
KonsoruMasuta  +   396d ago
If Sony really wants to sell Vitas they need to secure an Exclusive Monster Hunter.

This will only push so many units.
dboyman  +   396d ago
Yes a EXCLUSIVE to PS Vita MH5!!
violentpulse  +   395d ago
And it goes to all vita games.. what we want are games exclusive to vita. In exception of Borderlands 2, all the other ports won't do much for vita's success. Do more games like Gravity Rush.
WeAreLegion  +   396d ago
That'll be great for Japanese sales, but I couldn't care less. Soul Sacrifice is so much better.
PrimeGrime  +   396d ago
This will fail just like it did years ago in both Japan and NA. If it couldn't do well then, when monthly pay subs were much more popular and there weren't as many new Monster Hunter titles out, how will it do well now?

Wasted time and money even putting more content into this. It could have been time and money better spent elsewhere or possibly actually porting a better Monster Hunter than this one.

As much faith as I have in the Vita even I know this game isn't going to sell too many of them.

Just reading these comments is sad. All it does is convince me that the Japanese love to buy repetitive crap/Anime clones. The Japanese gaming industry is dying and becoming irrelevant
KonsoruMasuta  +   396d ago
You would be wrong to assume all Japanese buy is repetitive/Anime clones.

That's like saying all people in the west like shooters that come out every year with no difference from the last.

No way I'm buying into this subscription based crap. Capcom can shove it if this is the best they can do.

Nice job Vita: FF X, Borderlands 2, Gravity Rush 2, Teraway, Killzone Mercenary, Phantasy Star online 2, Valhalla knights 3, Yakuza restoration and now Monster Hunter. :D

that MH game is a subscription based game with no single player mode. It's also the worse MH game. Sorry but this is nothing to be happy about. I'd be more happy with an HD remake of Monster Hunter portable 3rd that has online and takes advantage of Vita's hardware and features.
chestnut1122  +   396d ago
It just means, Capcom is not closing the possibilities that a new MH will come to PS Vita Someday ;)

Monster Hunter is a MONSTER.

I will be surprised if-
VITA sales don't spike and the software charts don't spike as well.

@PrimeGrime-
Wii and WiiU Dragon Quest X are subscription MMOs and they are doing moderately well in Japan-
-so definitely, this could.

Oops, I got to maintain my Nintendo Fanboy image. I can't say good things about Vita... >.>
