Ouya Changes Free The Games Fund Rules After Shutting Down Two More Projects

The Android-powered gaming console OUYA has announced a new set of guidelines and rules for game developers wanting to qualify for its Free the Games Fund. OUYA’s Free the Games Fund is an attempt to get more games onto the OUYA Android console. Originally, OUYA promised to match the funds of any game receiving more than $50,000 from Kickstarter that promised to make their game exclusive to OUYA for six months. The new rules are in response to controversy swirling around a few projects that were being accused of gaming the system because of a suspiciously low backer to donation level ratio. Dungeons: The Eye of Draconus and Gridiron Thunder, a game that has been featured on our Android Kickstarter Wrap-up, were two projects that were removed from the Free the Games Fund recently, both joining Elementary, My Dear Holmes which had gotten the boot earlier. (Android, Gridiron Thunder, Ouya)

Ouya is getting a lot of flak for this. But I don't know why. If someone is obviously gaming the system just to make money then it should be stopped. Some devs have taken their games off of Ouya in protest.
